spcg08Check the egoInterested in the topic, but when I heard them talk down to / over a female guest, I turned it off.

AlwaysOverwhelmedHosts need to shape upGood guests, good idea for a podcast and valuable information but I have trouble listening because of how the hosts conduct themselves. I’m listening to episode 38 and they keep talking over the guest and otherwise don’t let her simply answer at length. They also begin with some specific questions rather than general ones that would let her provide a comprehensive intro to the topic. I recommend the hosts listen to some good interviewers, eg Terry Gross, and note how much talking she does (i.e. very little) and learn how to sit back a bit. They also interject with wow, statements to show they understand etc. They refer to themselves as “the boys” in episode descriptions, and indeed the tone feels a bit immature and unsophisticated. And now I’ve done too much talking...

Eggo1313Interesting, but...I write this review with the disclaimer that I am not a therapist, but a social scientist who is very interested in the social and cultural dynamics in and around therapy. I appreciate this podcast for the important topics it covers and have learned a great deal about the theoretical and practical ins and outs of therapy. It is intellectually stimulating and the conversations rich. That said, I can’t help but be disappointed by the hosts’ tendency to talk over or jump to “interpret for” guests — especially when guests are women. While I haven’t listened to every episode, I listened to a selection of episodes featuring both male and female guests and observed this dynamic in multiple episodes. The hosts would occasionally get excited and interrupt male guests, but they seemed to more regularly re-phrase or attempt to translate before the guest had finished their thought when it was women speaking. I wish the hosts the best and thank them for their interesting and insightful episodes, I just hope they’ll be especially mindful of this moving forward given what we know about this phenomenon in workplaces, activism, and other social spaces.

Caroline WiitaMy favorite psychotherapy podcast!I deeply appreciate everything about this podcast. It covers the material in-depth without being pedantic or self-indulgent. The cohosts have excellent chemistry and achieve that magical podcasting balance between engaging banter and informative content. Everyone has a podcast these days, but these guys clearly care about the quality of the work. As a "future therapist of America," I've found "Talking Therapy" to be a really wonderful introduction to the field. Definitely worth subscribing!

C. BelliAwesome!Wonderful information. I thought this podcast was excellent. It was highly detailed and the interviewers and the interviewee had very thoughtful responses. Made me want to investigate this therapy more as a soon to be MSW student.
