caitoconn25One of the best podcastsKarina does such a wonderful job in putting together and telling stories. If you claim to love pop culture this is required listening.
-
steeverbThe deepest dive into film history and cultural forces that drive itFantastic content across the past decade - Karina fills every episode with deeply researched and brilliant production. A true gift of a podcast. Come join us…won’t you?

DaraCaddenKellyStill the best podcastThis is actually the first podcast I ever listened to. I’ve listened to so many more now, many of them great, yet YMRT is still my favorite. When I’m having a rough time, this is my go to for relistening. The current rating of 4.6 is laughable. I don’t know what people want from a podcast if not this. The stories. The production values. Her voice. This is the apex, folks.

VWM108Addictive!This is my new favorite podcast. So smart, fun, and educational—with high production value. It is a welcome reprieve from current news/politics. Not that the host shies away from mentioning how the topics covered in various episodes relate to more recent times. I really appreciate the sense of perspective we get from this podcast’s focus on “the secret &/or forgotten histories of Hollywood’s first century.”

gdydhdhxdjdjxjCan’t say I like the hostSome interesting content, but overall, I don’t really care what some scoldy millennial snit considers “problematic”. The ratio of moralizing to thoughtful analysis is a bit too high here for my tastes. Pass on following this podcast. (Other note: the host has the same weird over-annunciation as the host of Gastropod. Who is it that’s encouraging podcast hosts to speak in this affected way???)

incrediblemulchas inspired othersymrt is the collection i’ve heard cited most often as inspiration for other excellent podcasts and i think really says something

Veronica RuralYou Will Fall In Love!I’ve been listening to Karina since 2015; she is phenomenal! I enjoy her modern feminist perspective, sense of humor, and impeccable research. She covers so much! My favorite series are her 12-part deep dive into the Manson Family and their connection with Hollywood, Erotic 80’s, Dead Blondes, and the career comparison between Jane Fonda and Jane Seymour. I recommend the Bruce Lee / Brandon Lee episode to get your feet wet! Be prepared to want to watch more movies. 🤓

m_inawayincredible content, unlistenable deliveryit’s a shame that i have the same complaint as everyone else. i had to stop listening, against my will, because the delivery is completely insufferable.

j- diggity dawgIntentionally annoying? There are plenty of great reviews of this pod for many years now and deservedly so. However, many if not most of those reviews include mention of Ms. Longworth’s voice in the delivery of her stories. I honestly cannot believe she is unaware of this and just stubbornly refuses to remedy the issue (indeed after having not listened for a few years, the over-enunciation, absurdly elongated wording and vocal fry has become significantly worse to the point it’s painfully obvious that it is intentional). I suspect that the content and subjects she covers is what brings listeners back when faced with perusing the vast amount of dreck that now passes for “entertainment/information” in the podcast industry. All I have to say in closing is, for the love of almighty Christ woman! show your listeners some mercy and either ease up on the aforementioned affectations or find someone to with a voice for narration (even some AI robotic voice would be preferable to your own). Anything less is just an utter disregard for, and disrespectful to your audience.

mbllyRe-do the episodes with a proper narrator! So glad I’m not alone. The verdict is in: Karina Longworth’s voice work is terrible. It’s a shame because it really is a good podcast - well researched, informative, perfect for film buffs. Congratulations to Longworth for writing and producing. Absolutely no thanks for the narration. How did nobody tell her? Sounds like a really bad SNL skit and it’s no laughing matter. Thank goodness there’s other narrators who host the show from time-to-time. Should’ve been like that always.
-
noporunner68Fantastic!This podcast is impeccably researched and Karina is a delight. I have been listening for years and am never disappointed.
-
aesthetictigerToo many TsI really tried, but the host over-enunciates like crazy. And she hits the Ts like they insulted her family. I just can’t. I really wanted to like this podcast. Please learn how to speak normally

Poodle ShoesI always learn something newI adore this podcast; Karina really does her research and cares about her seasons. I always learn about a new (old) film that I need to see! Just the best for anyone interested in films and the stories behind them.
-
MishiBurgThe over-articulation is unbearableThe research and writing are great, and the subject matter is interesting. Every year or so, I try again. But I just can’t stand the host’s delivery — it is just grating to me.
-
AsthmaticxGood content, bizarre narrationI wanted to love this podcast, because it’s very interesting and well researched, but the way the narrator enunciates words is incredibly irritating and distracting. Seriously, who speaks like that? If you lack public speaking skills, just use an AI voice to narrate your show.
-
RTS2018what an annoying podcasterfrom the vocal fry to the fake pronunciation of T’s to the overtly unbearable millennial speech. hard to listen to what is being said.
-
redwolfhopwUnfounded Gossip about the dead.Classy!I’m sure the beautiful Miss Novak struggled a great deal. But to hear this person talk about her “character’s struggles” is friggin ridicules. Her “characters “ aren’t her. Hopkins “struggled” with Hannibal?
-
NCC1453Well researched and interestingThe podcast is well-researched and interesting, but Longworth can be a bit sanctimonious, and the over-enunciation is a bit much
-
angelabrittainGOAT Film HistorianI would be willing to bet I have learned more from YMRT than I did during my four years of college film studies. Longworth’s contribution to film history cannot be overstated. Now more than ever we need to revisit the often biased reporting of the past, as well as recontextualize films through a modern understanding. Thank you, Karina, for your tireless research and always enticing storytelling! And to all the people complaining about the ads: skip them. 🤡
-
Julie bug $$Too many commercials!I love the content but the commercials are way too annoying. Can’t listen anymore.
-
Teem DodgerGreat resource, kinda stiltedGreat research, very interesting podcast about the early history of Hollywood. The host. Speaks. In a… very. Stilted. Way. I don’t know if she was told in a public speaking to class to speak slowly and took that too literally, but she sounds like she’s trying very, very hard to be understood. It’s like listing to someone speaking to a child.
-
corry22aVoiceI used to love listening to this podcast a few years ago but now she uses this insane, annoying pronunciation . Really, who convinced her that was a good idea .
-
FdiebxgsGreat content, unbearable commercialsThe commercials are worse and more frequent than any other podcast I’ve listened to. It makes it really hard to enjoy the depth of the research when there’s 3 minutes of commercials for every 5 minutes of content.
-
tjb11590Over-pronouncing the letter ‘T’ (sometimes)This affectation makes an otherwise entertaining podcast almost unlistenable. Please stop pronouncing ‘letter’ as ‘leTTTer.’
-
jellyntoasyIs this podcast over ? Please come back :(Please and thank you
-
EpthpGod Tier PodcastAbsolutely fascinating. The atmosphere, narration, research, and deep empathy combine to make possibly one of the most candid collections of information on Hollywood to date.

former listener22Volume of commercial jarringI like to listen to podcasts to relax, sometimes to listen to as I fall asleep. Karina Longsworth voice is soothing. Unfortunately every commercial is several decibels louder so it is not only incredible jarring but if you are falling asleep it shocks you awake. Or if you unfortunately fell asleep listening to this podcast you will find yourself awoken in 20 minutes stints. It makes the podcast completely unlistenable. Even just listening to it casually, when the commercials come on blaring it makes you jump. I have to unsubscribe because I don’t want podcast episodes to fall into my cue. It’s such a poor advertising strategy too, the volume increase of the commercials makes the commercials so irritating that I find myself despising the products advertised. You have to wonder what idiot thought increasing the volume would be effective. Yes you take notice, but you also start to hate the product annoying you. Sad that You Must Remember This has fallen into that category, but I guess the revenue was worth it to them.

frustratedfsnContent great but hyper pronunciations is distractingThis is a good podcast, the content is high caliber. But what’s with the over pronunciation on the ends of words? It’s like the narrator is trying too hard to be perfect, and over annunciating, esspecially evident when she is narrating the ads/ sponsors. It’s very distracting, and makes it hard for the listener to focus. She needs to ditch that technique and just speak naturally.
-
SarahSmokesCigarsI wanted to keep listeningThe pronunciations of the Ds and Ts and the “sounds” at the end of almost every sentence is infuriating. The content is of interest to me and I listened to some of the movie episodes from the 80s content (maybe 4 episodes). I then tried to listen to something newer to see if adjustments had been made to the delivery, but nope. It’s just too bad that this podcast has good info to share but I can’t keep doing this.

HighlandsBoyLove it!Update: turns out, Karina Longworth is a real person! Not a computer! In fact, she’s pretty brilliant. I heard her on Maron podcast and have listened to even more episodes than when I initially wrote this review. She’s awesome. The writing is incredible, the stories are compelling. I’m only a few episodes in (Sammy & Dino series) and plan to listen to them all. AI is getting amazing. The computer they use to voice this show is very lifelike; almost human! Do other shows do this?

petethekiller030The show should be called You Must Remember WomenI thought I was going to learn something about old Hollywood. What I learned was lefty views are forced into everything. This podcast covers mostly the accomplishments women in Hollywood and when they fail it’s because of men and when they succeed it’s in spite of them. All the bad behavior by women are praised as women coming into their own sexually and when it’s done by men well that’s just men being men doing their best to keep women in the kitchen.
-
FairnhonestPreachy and pompousI LOVED this podcast early one and it’s been sad to see it become so sententious. Do we need to be told for the ten thousandth time that some men treated women poorly in Hollywood? lol.
-
MichiganGal1027This is a gemI’m an old Hollywood buff since childhood (although now some of my favorites from childhood are considered classics.) I’ve completely enjoyed hearing Karina talk about the actors and the place that have entertained me for decades. My favorites have been those of the earliest days of Hollywood, filling in details that I didn’t know and probably would have never heard about any other way. Her voice is like velvet, making this an excellent listen any time of day. If you’re a movie fanatic, you can’t go wrong with “You Must Remember This”.

BlamelessAphid5Love KARINA!This podcast is wonderful- in my top 5 of all time. Fell in love at “Dead Blonds” and still look forward to every season. Went back and listened to previous seasons, too. All 🔥

StefmichkrI can’t believe I just found this!!So happy I found this podcast! I wish I had been listening from day 1… however I’m so glad I will be able to listen without delay for maybe a year. Thank you for assisting in my preparation for some nonexistent film test that will never be given to me! But if it does I’m more and more prepared to ace it! Keep it up!!
-
lkulmCongratulations!🎉Karina, I love your show, listened to every episode. Congratulations on 10 years of podcast shows, much love💗

Xjrsx1My favorite podcast everI can't put my finger on it, as this is outside of my normal listening genre but I am hooked! I really enjoy Katrina's critiques and she captivates me with her presentation style/voice. I am intentionally trying to pace myself because I don't want to run out of episodes!

Slowdive23Fine Work From the Golden Days to the NowI have been enjoying this podcast off and on for several years now. I remember while I was in Hong Kong I popped on an episode on Yvonne De Carlo, and felt this gal knows her stuff, but also, perhaps more importantly, knows how to deliver. One thing that I know could either be regional affectation or just an alteration with vocal delivery — those hard Ts. I do wince every time I hear those hard Ts, esp in words like “water” and “cottage”, and while it personally irks me, I can turn off the annoyance given that the content is so strong and consumable.
-
willa catheterHappy 10th Anniversary! What an accomplishment! I believe I’ve now heard every episode, and enjoyed every one.

bazuemagueA love and respect for old Hollywood shines in this podcastAs a member of Generation Jones I’m old enough that I grew up in a time when silent films and early talkies and black-and-white movies from Hollywood’s golden age were used as filler for TV programming. People my age were immersed in this stuff as kids and we soaked it up like sponges. Karina Longworth gets everything right in this podcast. Her research is meticulous, and her obvious love and respect for old Hollywood and the people that made it what it was comes through in every episode. She embraces all of it, even the ugly and dark sides, and sees what I saw as a kid, the magic of old Hollywood that still exists today, despite the frequent turmoil that brought so many beloved images and sounds to the silver screen.

Netty WhiteGen-X’er rates superb! This is the podcast I didn’t know I needed. Thank you for all the research. And for joining forces with Marc Maron; where I first heard you.
-
bunba hotepMy favorite podcastI’ve listened to every episode multiple times and the Polly Platt series is my favorite podcast series ever. I knew nothing about her before listening, and learned that she was key in at least three of my all time favorite films. Thanks for highlighting the work of this brilliant woman. Now we need to get her a lifetime achievement Oscar. Keep up the great research and presentation!

Listener12344321Politics?Has good information but the host never misses an opportunity to inject left wing Trump hating politics. She always mentions that someone was a “white man” as though that condemns them automatically. Take everything she says with more than a few grains of salt.
-
Lola60626Her affected voiceCould not stand to listen to her narrate this podcast. Wow. So bad.
-
Grammar MavenCorrect your pronunciation , please!!Love this podcast, but it makes me cringe whenever Karina mispronounces words with “t” in the middle as “d”. Examples: important, button, Burton (Richard) are being pronounced as impordant, budden and Burdon. 😖
