Jeaninegirl94Super helpful! My dad is from Germany and I never fully learned the language so this has been helping me so much! I listen to it every day and it teaches me something every single time and I love all the grammar! please keep this Podcast up

ladyfreyUse this with DuolingoI have been using Duolingo to learn German for a year now, and I’ve enjoyed it. The one issue is they are very sparse with explanation. This podcast has filled the holes and brought my learning up to blazing speed, and allows me the facility to start creating my own sentences. They get into the nitty gritty of how German works, and I love it.

CtbhamUseful addition to in person learningPost-pandemic, I don’t want to do anything all online. So, I am taking an in-person German class, but I use this podcast as supplemental listening and practice when I am driving in my car. I am satisfied so far and am looking forward to all the seasons.

Clocked offSuperb learning experienceI have been very entertained and pleased with the show. It has a great format that encompasses all the things I am looking for to learning the German language faster! The cultural aspect is one of my favorite parts of the show.

soooppphhhiiiieeeeVery helpfulI recently moved to Germany and I’ve been listening to this podcast for just over a month now. It’s been really helpful and enjoyable to listen to! I highly recommend it. I like that they always thoroughly review what was in the last lesson before moving on to the next and that there is a lot of repetition whenever learning a new phrase. The cultural and grammatical sections also help a lot too.

dukesgirlExcellent resource for learning GermanI’ve been really enjoying this podcast. Their explanations are very clear—and often more in depth than other resources, which I find really helpful—and they are pretty entertaining as well. Highly recommended

AsalshaHow much is the whole package? So far I like this podcast and I learn a lot because I know a little bit of German. Does anyone knows how much is the total price for all 5 seasons, 120 episode?

StuckInsideA fantastic resourceThis is by far the best German language learning podcast I’ve found so far. The detailed grammar segments and Mark’s role of linguist-as-learner combine to answer my questions thoroughly. It’s the next best thing to a live tutor. I have been using this in combination with Deutsche Wells’s online course, and they complement one another perfectly. Coffee Break German ist ausgezeichnet!
-
EpuropeI love CoffeeBreak German :)Thank you guys for providing a mostly free learning service for those wishing to learn another language. I’m using this along with Duolingo to build a strong starting base in German. I’m happy with the progress I’ve made and hope to continue to make as I grow in my vocabulary and grammar usage :)

BlahhhhfksjfkOne of my favorite tools for language learningI’ve done the full 5 Pimsleur German courses, and I’m working my way through Coffee Break German, and they compliment each other very well. There is obviously some overlap as they start with beginner topics, but the explanations do a very good job at filling in gaps, adding to vocab, and explaining the “why” for some topics. I’ve done a lot of both coffee break Spanish and German. I really like this German one specifically because Mark is learning it at the same time as the listener. Since he has learned a variety of other languages he always asks very useful and insightful questions about grammar, conjugation, etc. and he is able to compare some things with Spanish and French or other languages which can be very helpful if you’re familiar with them.

TaterlikerVery very good. This has helped me to rekindle my German learning. I was exposed to German as a child but my grandfather wouldn’t teach me and if he did he would get wrapped around the axle on pronunciation. I understand maybe 40 - 50% I understand the basic idea of the conversation but the tenses and some conjugation I get behind and I hate that. By the way this is proper German, very proper, of a literary nature. Danke schon für disse klasse ich wise. I don’t speak well much less to write. Thank you great material.

P.C.T.Absolutely the best!I just can’t recommend this course enough. It is so user friendly and I love it. I’m Brazilian and live in the USA. I am a total beginner with learning German and had a trip to Switzerland after going through just 20 lessons and was so much fun putting what I had learned to use during my vaccation there. I’ll definitely be back as well as to Austria and Germany and for sure I’ll be continuing towards becoming fluent. The lessons are simple and efficient, to the point, complete with grammar, pronunciation, cultural facts and above all guided by Mark who seems to be quite the hungry learner himself 😂. My 14 year old son is doing Coffee Break Italian and he loves it. I’ll join him later as it’s easy for me coming from Portuguese but later I also plan on the French course. 10 stars rating for all Coffee Break Courses Bis zum nächsten Mal

J@neFThe BESTI have tried some other podcasts, and this is by far the most helpful and thorough effort to support German learners by podcast. It follows an expert language learner’s effort to learn German. It’s basically like going to class with a very smart student who asks all the best questions, has shockingly good pronunciation, uses the proper names for the different parts of speech, and makes connections between German and other languages. I highly recommend getting the bonus materials. It really helps to be able to see the words written down. The cultural insights and grammar moments are also great. I seriously can’t recommend it enough. I have so hope for my basic German!

BestdaysofmyflermWarning: not standard GermanI really like the listen-and-repeat format, but it just doesn’t make sense for most people to learn German from a Bavarian speaker. This dialect is so different from standard German that it is sometimes considered a separate language. Unless you plan on moving to Bavaria, I would avoid this podcast.

Paigetg245Too much EnglishBy the time you get to season 2, they speak too much english - ok in season 1, but they should move to more auf deutsch. And the female needs to find another word besides “genau” - wow annoying.

MattTheCatWithTheHatWunderbar!!I’ve always tried to learn languages in the past by learning vocabulary and phrases and just repeating them, but always gave up because i found it difficult to understand the language and make my own sentences. I’m lightly learning german while juggling school, and I definitely have learned more in the first 16 lessons of coffee break german than any language learning software Ive used in the past. They go through simple phrases in the first few episodes to explaining the grammar behind them so you understand what you’re saying and teach you how to use vocabulary in different grammatical situations. I really like how Mark sometimes makes mistakes so you know not to do the same and it helps you learn more about the language. The cultural aspect is also really nice to learn about the culture behind the language you’re learning, and helps you when deciding what to say in certain situations

This podcast is still great!Ich liebe diesen Podcast! This podcast is great for beginners who want to learn German! It’s helped me a lot and I like that it teaches listeners useful phrases for traveling to German speaking countries. This show also really helps demystify the often confusing grammar cases. I love the hosts too! Strongly recommend.

JvsimplifiedFantastic Way to Learn GermanI like to use different tactics to learn German because when someone explains something one way I may not understand, but will understand it when someone else explains it. Coffee Break German brings those together. I love the short format, the grammar and culture integrations and the graduated learning approach. Thanks for this amazing podcast
-
brigham73Best platform for language learningI have tried several ways to learn German and the Coffee Break series has been the best. The progression is at a reasonable pace. There are lots of review sessions which help reinforce learning. The grammar breaks help me understand what’s happening unlike Rosetta Stone where you are left on your own to figure out grammar rules.

ginafish1Ausgezeichnet!I used to be fluent, but have gotten rusty in recent years. I listened to this podcast to prepare for a trip to Germany this summer and it helped me so much. While there, I was able to use vocabulary I’d learned through the podcast and felt confident in my grammar too because of the hosts’ excellent lessons. Dankeschön!

Tov KelevGreat Way to LearnI am currently on Season 2 Episode 12 and am thoroughly enjoying this app. The lessons really help me learn and improve my German. Es ist ausgezeichnet! Ich wurde es zu alle meine Freunde empfehlen. So far my favorite (am liebsten) episodes were the ones that took place in Innsbruck. Thank you to Mark, Thomas, Julia, Kirsten, Andrea and the entire Coffee Break German team! Danke schön!

clcl41200👌I’ve been listening on and off for years and think it’s a great supplemental resource. Definitely have used phrases and tips I’ve learned here in the real world. Und außerdem, habe ich gerade eine Reise nach Garmisch-Partinkirchen und Bamberg gemacht, die kompletttt durch den Podcast inspiriert wurde! Super Empfehlung, danke sehr 👌

MozartoperamanGenug mit Genau already!Put off by the weird „sound“ of this program from the Tyrolian Heimat Musik intro to the supplicating Scottish host with the redundant „genau“ after each „English“ translation of simple German words. Genug mit Genau already. It sounds stupid. Scottish Guy: „heute morgen“ means „this morning“. German woman: Genau. Scottish Guy: fahren means „to drive“. German woman: Genau. This guy: Genug mit Genau. Scottish Guy: that means „enough of the word ‚genau‘“. German woman. Exactly!

LongmovieGreat for those with some German backgroundMy wife is German and my children have been raised bilingual. I’ve developed a basic understanding of German just from exposure around the home. Recently, I decided to become fluent in German. My current level is A2 per a Goethe Institut test. I’ve been looking for as many resources as possible to help me learn German. This podcast is perfect for me. This goes beyond simple “travel” German. Grammar is actually discussed as well. The way the hosts break down the sentences and review vocabulary is very helpful.
-
jkhhhhgggfghjjyfghffdawqWonderbaar!I have been listening from season 1 for over a month and already I can understand many words I hear! The hosts are charming and explain everything very simply. I will definitely be a long-time listener!
-
LurklingSpeed and clear pronunciationI checked this out years ago, but was very discouraged because the native speaker speaks so quickly. And never seems to have a mode where he will enunciate clearly and slow the speech down. So that learners can understand what the heck the words are. Native speed is fine if you understand what the word is when spoken clearly. Having studied a little German at this point, I was checking this out again. If not for Mark continually asking him to repeat things and slower, this would be too difficult of a resource to use for learning. I was an avid listener of coffee break French. I liked the teaching style and that Mark would always annunciate things slow and clear at least for the first time or two. So that people could learn to make the sounds.
-
DreiKatzenFantastisch!CBG is an absolutely fantastic German learning resource! The pacing is great and the explanations are clear and helpful. My German has been improving at an incredible pace - and finally I can really understand how the grammar functions! Even if you’ve been studying German for a little while I think it’s worth your time to start at Season 1. Thank you Coffee Break German, I was lost without you!

Joe AlaimoThe bestY’all are descendants of the kingdom of Valhalla Guardians of the muttersprache, I have lingered and languished in the purgatory that is German grammar until these deities graced my podcast feed with their consul and intelligence.
-
fellow lucid dreaming hopefulAusgesignet!Super! Toll! This podcast is excellent. The German is slow and clear. The explanations and dissection of each sentence are very helpful. I’m looking forward to listening to the rest of the episodes.
-
clearskiespmExcellent, quality intro to German languageI am a teacher and appreciate clear instruction and meaningful practice. These folks do a fantastic job. And they clearly love languages. Their joy makes you want to keep learning. Well done and keep it up!

Zachariya5713Great PodcastWonderful perspectives from Both an English learner and a Swiss German speaker. They have a lot of fun while pointing out key words and phrases you may not usually see, and do a wonderful job explaining the workings of different grammar rules. I have studied German for 5 years and still find new terms and phrases every episode!
-
gballesterosToo much EnglishI’ve been listening for a year and love it but there’s TOO much English! Speak more German please
-
Beginner_self_taughtAMAZING!I started teaching myself German using Duolingo and Babbel about a year ago, but Coffee Break German REALLY helps me with the grammar, and subtle nuances. The hosts are funny and clear. The beginning of the second season is my favorite (it emphasizes grammar). The cultural units were also helpful to my trips to Germany! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
