The Marathon Training Academy Podcast will help you unlock your potential to conquer the marathon and change your life. Since 2010 Angie and Trevor have shared tips, inspiration, and interesting guests interviews to help listeners run smarter, avoid injury, and go the distance. What RUNNER’S WORLD says about the MTA Podcast: “If you’re training for 26.2, running coach Angie Spencer and her husband, Trevor, have everything you need to reach the finish line. The duo provides plenty of training tips, interviews, and reviews of marathons from around the world. (Angie has run one in every state!) While they don’t always bring on guests, runners like Sara Hall, Dathan Ritzenhein, and even actor Sean Astin have all stopped by.”

    The Best!
This is the best running podcast out there and my favorite! Trevor and Angie humble and humorous people, great hosts, and they have a amazing team of coaches that are sometimes on the podcast with them. Each episode is filled with tips and encouragement that can help any type of runner, from someone who is just getting into running to someone who has been at it for years and it’s not just for marathoners. They also have a variety of amazing guests that join them on different episodes. Have a listen. You won’t be disappointed!:)

    Your New Running Friends!
I found this podcast 2 years ago when desperately trying to get motivated for an 8 mile training run. I chose an episode on keeping a good mindset during long runs. As I listened, I laced up and got out the door. Trevor and Angie are great together! Their completely different styles mesh beautifully. They are also super down to earth - real people who you can relate to who love to run. Their guests are great, and every single episode has something I can use in my daily training. Then I fell in love with their virtual running medals. Just go on the website and check them out. They are beautiful, clever and inspiring. I was training for my first marathon, and as a masters runner, I wanted to do that safely and confidently. I used one of their coaches and accomplished that amazing goal. Then I did it again, faster! I’m training with Coach Abby for my third. Enjoy this podcast. These people are going to be your new best running friends!

    The Best!
I’ve listened to every running podcast i can find, and this one is just the best! I’ve been listening for years, and catch every episode, even though I don’t know if I’ll ever actually run a full marathon. I struggle to find the motivation to run, and this podcast is by far the best tool I have found to get me out the door and keep me going. Trevor and Angie make it fun, interesting, full of variety, and —this is what really sets it apart — listener-focused. It’s edited so well and intentionally, it always feels engaging and purposeful, not rambly. Thanks for accompanying me on so many runs, MTA, and encouraging me to leep being excited about running, even though it’s hard!

    Loved the interview with JJ
It was so refreshing to hear from someone who felt they were not a natural runner, and faced lots of injuries- but still managed to recovery, strive for goals, work with coaches, and have a positive view about the JOURNEY! I could definitely related to much of JJ’s experiences and her story is so motivating for me as I continue my journey. Keep up the great interviews Angie and Trevor!

LOVE Angie and Trevor and the whole MTA team!
This has been a long time coming. I’ve been a part of the MTA community since the start of my running journey 4 years ago. Angie and Trevor are the best podcast team! They really complement each other and bring 2 unique perspectives to running and training. They have so many interesting and knowledgeable guests on their show plus super fun race reports. This podcast is professional, educational, inspiring, motivating, and fun. I have listened to many episodes multiple times and it never gets old. Plus their online community of runners and coaches are super supportive and helpful. They have become my running family. So grateful to have found this podcast!

    Awesome!
Absolutely love this podcast. Listening to the recap of 70 marathons was so interesting and helped to put a lot in perspective. Angie offers great advice and seems like the coolest down to earth person out there. Can’t wait to run NYC in a few weeks!

Hands down, the BEST running podcast!
Trevor and Angie are everyone’s best friends! They are warm and welcoming to their guests and do a fantastic job of blending professional athleticism with the aspirations of everyday athletes. They show the same respect to the weekend warriors as they do to the elites. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience, are fun and personable and always create a conversation that is easy to listen to while running. I also appreciate their commitment to each other and their kids as they share how they balance training, work and family life. Regardless of how much or how little you’ve run, there’s a place for you here!
  • DJ do do DJ
    Love! But,
I absolutely love this podcast-so much great information for the everyday runner. However, the episodes/segments that feature metpro’s Angelo Poli have very little to offer. It’s basically an hour long ad with no good information. I skip these completely.

    YUUUUGE fan!
The race recaps are my favorite! I love everything about MTA and it’s community.

    Wonderful but post links
I love the podcast. It is interesting and moves fast enough to keep me interested. One thing I would love to see are links to sponsors and /or guests. I am usually running when I listen and don't have a great memory, so I rely on show notes and links on my return. Thanks.

    Motivating and Entertaining
Thank you for this great podcast! Love all the content and it’s great listening to MTA during my runs for extra motivation.

    New here!
I started desiring participating in my first half marathon so I randomly searched running and this podcast is excellent! It’s a no-frills experience based podcast and I will continue listening throughout my journey! I was motivated to sign up for a 10k

    So much inspiration!
I started listening to MTA while training for my first marathon, and it was the best thing that happened to my running career. I’m not particularly fast, but MTA has inspired me and given me a wealth of knowledge. I’m training for my fourth marathon now, and my favorite runs are still the ones where I get to listen to new episodes. Thanks Angie and Trevor!

    Not for me!
Have wanted to like this one... but don’t want to hear about weight loss, how sponsored products help with weight loss, and ‘obesity’...

One of the best running podcasts I have found yet. Lee them coming

    Great podcast!
Honestly I want to give this podcast a 4 star because the only thing that I don’t like about it is that it has one episode around every 7-9 days. It’s so good I wish it was everyday so I never have to wait! This podcast has helped me get prepared for my first marathon and they have fun stories and great advice! Highly recommend it to anyone who is running or thinking about getting into running.

    Thank You!
I am a runner of ten years and have been sitting on a plateau for a few years now. My brother pointed me in the direction of this podcast and I am so glad he did! Since I have started listening to the show, I have hit 5k, 10k and half marathon PRs. My eye is now on the prize: marathon PR. Thanks to the podcast, I am now committed to my marathon goals, not just interested.

    My favorite running podcast
I love Angie and Trevor and the MTA community! I started listening to their podcast when I was training for my first half marathon in 2017. I quickly came to love the podcast for a lot of reasons - great technical running advice for newbies and experienced runners, awesome interview guests, and really positive & motivational success stories from other runners in the MTA community. This podcast accompanies me on almost all my long runs, and I would highly recommend it to runners of all experience and interest levels.

    Personal, practical, and life-changing
I could listen to Angie and Trevor all day—if I didn’t have kids chasing me around! :) Seriously, these two will change your health and habits if you let them.

    Rediscovered myself
I stumbled upon this podcast back in 2018 but I did not listen because it talks about marathon and I was nowhere close running. I was a couch potato. 2019 summer I ran a Marine corps Mud Run, but I was irregular at running. Finally, I motivated myself to run after birth of my second child. My longest run is only 8 mile but I have improved my time by 27 minutes already in 2 months. I have signed up for LA Marathon 2021. I listen to you when I am running. I thank Angie and Trevor for the platform, content and the community they have provided for millions of runners like me, both pro and beginners. I am more rebel like Trevor. Hope to meet you guys one day. God bless you.

Such a powerful podcast- body, mind, and more!
MTA is the BEST podcast- inspiring, motivating, educational, and entertaining. I’m a new runner and I learn a tremendous amount each episode. MTA has been such an important part of my running journey. I don’t even remember how I found this podcast but once I did I devoured all past episodes. Trevor and Angie are the best and their diverse guests never cease to amaze me. I also signed up for their Virtual Half Marathon and used their training program for my very first half marathon distance. That was such a profound experience and I’m so grateful for their guidance and support. Thank you Trevor, Angie and MTA for all you give to the running community!!
  • Patelh47
    Very inspiring and informative!
Angie and Trevor have done a great job with this podcast! I consider myself fairly new in the running journey (did my first marathon 2018 in Chicago, and then took a break and back at it with full force this year doing full marathon, half marathon, lots of 10k, 15k, and 5k’s). I have been listening to this podcast regularly throughout this year and have been meaning to write the review because it has truly helped me so much with literally EVERYTHING. I have been creating my own training plans and seeking knowledge from various sources online and podcasts. I really appreciate the thoroughness, motivating spirit and great selection of topics that beginners truly wonder about and need the help with. Keep up the great work and hope to see you guys in a race some day! :)

    Inspiring
A natural anti-depressant, inspiring, smart, empowering...love all their podcasts but "once is enough" today really moved me. I actually paused the podcast and watched the documentary on Amazon prime. I cried. Wow! Then I came back and listened. So grateful I found Marathon Training Academy during this pandemic. I am walking 100 mile Social Distancing. I was punched at MD office in Soho nyc 8 years ago. Like too many victims no Justice even more wrong doing. You all are helping me not get very down. I am walk running more walking. 1991 and 1992 nyc marathons. 2 r knee surgeries r ankle torn lot a pain but losing 40 pounds I gained from ptsd insomnia from the attack and my Spudfit coach Andrew have me starting up running in small bits age 58!

    thank you Trevor and Angie
Just want to share how I started my running journey.Back in 2015 I was getting angry and my blood pressure was shooting high all the time and was not able to focus on small tasks. so one day I thought of how to control my blood pressure and bring it back to normal healthy levels.so i decided to start running and signed up for Broadstreet run in Philadelphia. ever since it has been long and tough journey to keep up the training and sign up for races. fortunately I was able to stick with it and train in my own pace. since then I have completed 12 half marathons and 3 full marathons. I happened to find your podcast by accident on one of my runs, and has been hooked ever since. I try to listen to your podcast regularly. and particularly liked the episode with the lady ( Forgot her name)who had parkinson’s and tries to run races in all fifty states. that is an inspiring story. One of my uncle had parkinson’s and I can’t imagine how hard it is to live with the disease nonetheless pursue running . I registered for big sur marathon in california, but got cancelled due to pandemic . So I decided to run my marathon virtually in April, and completed in 4:45 minutes. I did not try for any personal best. just kept my focus on completing. thank you for all the inspiration you guys provide to all the runners and the running community..I will try to be there in wellsboro trail run 50 k on september 12th . keep up the good work podcasting. Iran? Are you kidding me?
Love you guys. From pros to couch to 5k- you guys do it all with grace and intelligence. Laying down under a log made me laugh out loud and Angie’s fitness quest has been mesmerizing. She is such a beast. This is a wonderful podcast. Ps. Finally got into Boston this year. Disappointed? A little, but your podcast taught me the journey is more important than the destination.

    For future marathoners too
I began listening when training for the St. Jude Memphis Marathon in 2018. Hosts Trevor and Angie talk about informational topics to help any level of runner. My favorite part however, is hearing the truly inspirational stories from my people in the running community. It really ties to the idea that anyone can run a marathon and change his or her life.
  • laflakamora
    Your guys are epic!!!
I’ve been listening to MTA for about 5 yrs already. Loved every episode. Thanks Trevor and Angie for keeping up the good work.

If your next-door neighbors were mega-runners...
... they would be like Trevor and Angie. I enjoy listening to their down-to-earth banter and supportive advice. They really do make running a marathon (or 50) sound accessible.

    Awesome
My absolute favorite running podcast. So supportive and motivational and doesn’t leave you comparing yourself to the pros like some other podcasts do. Whenever my motivation to get out and run is low I turn to this podcast to get me excited to head out the door.

    Fantastic!
Trevor and Angie are superb in knowledge and deliver a fantastic podcast full of interesting guests and helpful commentary. I got a chance to meet them at Grandma’s Marathon a couple of years ago and I can also say they are wonderful humans. Their wisdom and humor have really helped me when I’m struggling with motivation or when I’m really working towards a new goal. Thank you!

Fantastic podcast for those with goals
I’ve been a runner for a few years now and my ultimate goal is to run a marathon. This podcast is amazing to listen to virtually anywhere (the car, school, on a run, or during other exercise). Trevor and Angie are so laid back and know what they are talking about from experience; they also aren’t crazy elite runners which makes their advice much more relatable. Highly recommend this podcast for anyone who is aiming to up their running game or just needs some motivational background noise!
  • RunnerK8
The best running podcast by far

Trevor and Angie have such a wonderful dynamic together and they are such lovely people and always deliver useful information in an easily digestible manner and with the right touch of wit and humor. When I listen while running, I’m always smiling and often chuckling. Added plus, their voices are soooo easy listen to. Love, love, love these two!
