Stones Touring Party

In the summer of 1972, the Rolling Stones swept across an America still smoldering from the tumult of the ‘60s, bringing their gritty masterpiece Exile on Main St. to the masses. Rolling Stone magazine journalist Robert Greenfield was along for the ride, writing the seminal rock book STP (Stones Touring Party) — culled from weeks on the road and more than 60 hours of interviews with the band and their entourage. Now, for the first time, Greenfield and fellow STP vet Gary Stromberg share that tape archive, allowing listeners to sit in on intimate chats with the Stones in their prime. Written and hosted by Jordan Runtagh, with original music by Noel Brown and Mykal Alder June, Stones Touring Party is an all-access pass to the sights, sounds, riots, bombings, drug busts, death threats and other assorted mayhem from this pivotal moment in American history.

Started out great. Tunred out....meh

I loved this at first b/c it was about the musice, the band, the songs, the venues. Then is turned in to a rehash of Altamont, the Manson murders, Hugh Heffner and the Playboy club w/ very little music or stories about the shows, performances, etc...........I didn't finish all the episdes.

Boston Garden crowd

As a long time Stones fan I am loving this podcast. However I have a problem with how the description of the Garden crowd was behaving during that 5 hour wait. A far cry from the rowdy, drugged, drunk, angry crowd described here. Not even close. I remember a very subdued and bored crowd. Extremely well behaved. Occasionally a game of catch would break out but for the most part people just sat or slept. Ive got the photos of this as well as White speaking to this crowd who were extremely happy when he appeared. Not an angry reception described in the podcast.

Fantastic !

This is such a great podcast series. You literally feel like you’re part of the 1972 entourage on tour with the Rolling Stones while you’re listening to it. And like I’m sure how the people that were actually involved in the 1972 tour were sad when it ended you’re also sad when this podcast ends.

Incredible stories told through never before heard interviews and people who were there. Even if you aren’t a Stones fan, the stories here are connected to things still making news today. And some long known legendary events told firsthand. Highly entertaining.

Must Listen for the Avid Stones Fan

I heard about this podcast on the regular radio and decided to give it a listen. It’s packed full of great interviews from journalists and fans. The podcast also pulls heavily from archives at Northwestern University. These interviews with Mick, Keith, Charlie, Mick T., and Bill are fascinating to listen to and give you an insight into what they’re were going through and what being a member of the band during that era was like. My only gripe with the podcast is that no Stones music is featured in the podcast (assuming due to licensing/royalty issues). The podcast tells a great story of the infamous tour that came to define the band. Every episode is captivating and is a joy to listen to!

Fun visit to a hedonistic period of Stones & Rock

This p’cast has been (so far) an entertaining weekly immersion into the Stone’s’ early ’70s campaign across the terrain of pop culture from that time, looking at the “Exile…” period the band & their crew indulged in from recording to tour, along with brief glimpses at points around the relative time such as Brian Jones’ death. Some errors in well-set band details here & there (like ep 8’s fudging-up Keith & Bobby Keys’ shared birthday of 12/18 by saying it’s in FEBRUARY for one thing lol) but aside from that this serves as a satisfying view at a specific era of Rock thru Glimmer Twins’ wraparounds.

True To Form! Robert’s Work Is Awesome

Robert Greenfield is the man to pay attention to! He pulls no punches, doesn’t care about hyperbole! I interviewed him in 2010 for a Master’s Thesis, and he was so lucid and direct! Stephen Davis was a joke of an author, who lied about Zeppelin’s ‘72 Tour being bigger and hotter than the Stones. Greenfield demonstrated that Davis was clearly delusional.

Great show

Fun an entertaining ride through the legendary 1972 Rolling Stones North American Tour! It’s awesome to hear the perspective from two guys who were actually on that tour as well as old interview tapes from back in the early 70s. The show does a great job providing the context and insights to all things Stones. Highly recommend!

I’m a Beatles fan, but I didn’t let that spoil it for me. A gripping story of a wild time, told with passion and compassion. Music fans will adore it, but so will fans of true crime, history and amazing storytelling. Check it out!

STP, Short for “Stones Touring Party”

The trailer tells me this is going to be one of the best podcasts ever! 72 was a pivotal year for the boys, they were dirt poor broke, they left a wake of destruction in every city they played and every road that got them to that city. This was THEE tour that taught the rest of the world how to “party like a rock star”, stars they were, parties were legend and they even invented a staple at every bar in the world….The Tequila Sunrise. I’ve read every book on the 72 tour, every article I could get my hands on and now a podcast! 60 hours of never before heard interviews….Can’t wait!
