CatDrivingACarGreat ShowReally love the show. Love the focus on subjects rather than events. Please learn how to pronounce ‘corollary’.

ThoughtfulMuttPodcast perfectionOne of my all time favorite history podcasts because it presents history how I’d want history to be presented to me. The conversational approach filled with humor is absolutely perfect. Love Aran’s accents, and Olivia’s laugh!

misslizWeird? Yes. That’s good. It’s weird, it’s nerdy, it’s academic, I love this pod. It sounds like two doctoral students in medieval studies talking about the thing they love most, and I am there for it. It’s not slick and it runs long sometimes and it’s great!
-
FrkgkeThis is great!Wading through a sea of slick vapid pop history medieval podcasts trying to find something worthwhile, I accidentally stumbled onto this one to my great joy. This podcast is just delightful, funny, quirky, and at the same time deeply founded in facts and real knowledge by people who just know their stuff. Plus they are just a riot. All stars and thumbs up!

MaraVladQuirky, fun, and whimsical!!!Thank you Medieval gang for putting this pod together, I’m really learning a lot and being quite entertained!!! I especially enjoyed your episode about pets, and especially all of the funny insults about various dog breeds, that was a riot!!! I’m going back and listening from the beginning…. Please let me know if you two have a Patreon or a PayPal or some other way people can pass along some coffee $$$ your way!!! Please keep up the good work! Oh! And I love the singing bits! Is that from a movie or something else? Anyway, much thanks!!!

Luis528They’re (not) eating the catsEnded up here from the meme page, and just listened to my first episode, on Medieval Pets. Funny, entertaining, and a surprisingly sweet commentary on why humans have kept pets around and what they mean. Yes as people have noted, audio quality is not the best, but this is clearly a labor of love. Definitely going to keep listening.

gerogoblinSILENCE KNAVES!!!!!girlll these reviews acting like everyone has the resources/time to invest in audio (the quality of which is rarely even a problem except on a few early occasions). This podcast is an absolute joy to listen to- let the goofs and laughs never end!!! Olivia and Aron’s knowledge of the subjects they bring to the table and their charm + whimsy shines above all else! Also loveee the new episode thumbnails ♥︎

TrynagainToo much Ha HaThe episode on Jean of arc and Presta John was marred with incessant chuckling and laughing of the two hosts that made it unlistenable. The hosts seem more intent on entertaining each other than informing the listeners. Awful. It’s like arriving late at a party after everyone else has been hitting on the bong for a hour.
-
Balletdancer94Lighthearted FunQuirky, fun, and a joy to listen to. Keep it up!
-
The Real Joan of ArcHuzzah!I am obsessed with this podcast, though I was disappointed to find out that it is not hosted by actual weird medieval guys.
-
Zino105Stop the pointless banter4 min in and im ready to tear my ears off my head. Not everyone can carry a podcast and shouldn't. Try some silent production work.
-
trainor.aCharming and hilariousLove the history, the analysis, and the giggles.

laurenahhhGreat content but distracting audio/voice qualityI want to give it five stars because of their incredible knowledge and super interesting content, but the audio/sound quality and verbal delivery of the information makes it VERY difficult to listen to and it becomes very distracting, especially when laughing at a shockingly loud volume and sometimes for long periods of time. PLEASE fix this so I can keep listening!!!!

Oberon6Interesting Content, Problematic DeliveryThe hosts and poor, home office production values get in the way of otherwise interesting history, research perspectives, and historiography. I gave it three episodes across several seasons. Unfortunately, nothing improved to the point that the problems of the former were outweighed by the positives of the latter. I switched instead to The Medieval Podcast where mature academics discuss rich research and tell interesting stories, with production values that don’t have you straining to hear what’s being said one moment, then blowing out your eardrums in the next.

CSmythe5492Came for the Twitter memes……stayed for the fascinating history! So far I especially like the episode about Welsh bards - I didn’t know I needed to hear the medieval Welsh equivalent of a rap battle before listening to this show. A delight all around!
-
Hollie the RedEducational and so much fun!!I’ve listened to several episodes and each one has been a delight. Olivia and Aran have a great rapport and wealth of knowledge about those weird medieval times. If I ever get caught in a time warp and transported to the Middle Ages, I’ll be able to avoid some embarrassing faux pas thanks to this podcast.

dashkovsPretty goodI like the content. The topics are fun and fascinating with a lot of solid research that has gone into each episode. It would be much easier to listen to this podcast (and the jokes would land much better) if the hosts would hold back on laughing so much at their own jokes. The more they laugh the less funny it is.
-
Mz ClientGood content, awful levelsThey’re fun and knowledgeable, but they trail off when they talk, so I can’t hear/understand them, then all of a sudden they explode in laughter and blow out my earballs. I’d like to listen, but I can’t do it unless they get some control over this.

AntedeluvianBabyEnjoyed it, will keep listening but still a little narrow viewedI found out about this from the medieval history podcast and just finished the myth busting episode. I overall enjoyed it but I take a little issue with their discussion of the medieval work life balance as it sounded very much like it was coming from people who live a very comfortable middle class life. I would also argue that the emphasis on there being more free time for medieval peasants is not just based on the church giving them holidays but also on the fact that when you live and work in conjunction with the natural seasons you automatically have more down time in the winter which we in America these days are certainly not given any breaks at this time when our natural rhythm really should be towards rest. Some of us find sitting at a computer for hours on end to earn a small portion compared to the people we are working for to be much harder work than working the land and crafting things that we need to use in life. Not trying to overly romanticize things, just acknowledging that we currently live in a broken system and there are some aspects to that life that may be preferable and less of a toil to some and to keep in mind we are not all middle class with a 5 day a week salaried job with paid vacations. Sorry for the rant and I look forward to hearing more, lots I’m sure I’ll like and probably more things I’ll want to critique.

Xx bmksazcnnA Must ListenThis show is absolutely great. It’s engaging, informative, and keeps me laughing. The hosts have great chemistry and Olivia’s laugh is incredibly endearing.
-
TpmpnpoObsessedThe perfect balance of education and entertainment, and it always circles around to something more broad about the human condition/our own place in history. so funny and rewarding, couldn’t recommend enough

TomK487140Delightful and funI wasn’t sure how a Twitter feed about hilarious centuries old art pieces would translate to an audio medium but at a certain point you just need to trust people to put out good stuff. And the Weird Medieval Guys podcast is definitely good stuff. There’s knowledge, there’s banter, there’s bits, there’s extremely thinly veiled contempt for various historical figures, events, and concepts. It’s great.
-
Sippy_CupInformative with a Great Sense of HumorI’ve been loving this podcast! Medieval Times were so funny, but were they really that much different than us?
-
NickNickSnickNickThe voice fryI can’t! The voice fry ruined this.

skinnpuppyVery Informative GuysVery fun and very informative ! Olivia is smart and witty, she really knows her stuff. Aran is funny and I like the way he puts things together. My only feedback would be, Aran’s volume is kind of all over the place, sometimes he’s very quiet like he’s facing away from the mic or something, and he is difficult to hear. But I love the hint of an accent he has, he’s got a good voice. PS— I really REALLY love their banter and the way they interact with each other. They have a great chemistry and I could literally listen to them talk about anything. (love the Sharknado banter, for example) My only other feedback would be that every other week is not enough episodes! 😁

KPinNYHistory… and also Fun!I followed the Weird Medieval Guys Twitter feed because it reminded me of why I loved my college Medieval Art & Architecture classes (the art is beautiful! And it’s weird! Artists worked so hard to create beautiful weird things!). This podcast is an even better version of that. Love the banter, love the casual and fun way historical context is explained, particularly love the debunking of common misconceptions so we remember that Weird Medieval Guys were actually … totally regular, relatable people. Thoroughly entertaining.

HunterJEThe right part of the venn diagramI rarely find myself clicking in with informational podcasts - if it's not funny and bantery I just can't focus on it in audio format, and stuff that's sufficiently funny and bantery often comes off too shallow/glossy/half-researched for my tastes. This is the rare show that really feels like it nails the overlap, the banter is fun and engaging while the content seems to be very well researched and goes deep.

Same BaeA Hilarious dive into the weird, wild, and even mundane of the Middle AgesThank you to Katy from “Queens Podcast” for introducing to me to this show because it’s incredible. As a casual history fan, I find that podcasts that are not focused on a biography of a historical person or general historical narrative or war can be a little dry and boring. Which this in many ways marks me a bad fan of history because I know so very little about what colors the world of the people I learn about. Not so with the weird medieval guys podcast. The hosts are able to talk with great enthusiasm and humor about a myriad niche historical topic. Looking forward to what’s in store.

Camiseta87A new fav! This show is just what I needed in a history show - it’s academic without making me feel like I’m sitting in a lecture hall, but not done by two folks who are just regurgitating what they read on Wikipedia while downing a glass of wine (though no shade is thrown to the drunken rabbit holes we occasionally find ourselves tumbling into). I really enjoy Weird Medieval Guys on twitter, and is usually something that brightens my day in the middle of endless doom scrolling. This podcast makes me laugh, makes me think, and makes medieval history accessible. Thanks so much for creating this and making me smile.

skjaereA Delightful History PodcastAs yet another American who got a mediaeval history degree in the UK, this podcast delights me in every possible way. Keep up the good work!
-
HzjsuzqiueLove to hear about medieval historyGlad to listen to this new podcast, I look forward to more episodes! My two notes: Aran, fix your levels, they keep going up and down and I keep having to adjust the volume. Also yes this show should not be labeled “clean” if you guys are swearing. 👀
-
BadBadGameBadGreat new showI was pining for a new offbeat history show and this is the one I didn’t know I wanted. Thank you!
-
Holly_5377335Interesting contextI really enjoyed hearing about the context for all the weirdness of the images I’ve been seeing on twitter. Lotta random f-bombs so maybe not actually “clean” as labeled
-
FritzMeiserFun Complement to Its Twitter SiblingGreat job! The podcast provides an interesting and fun complement to its Twitter sibling. Looking forward to future uploads.
