Fantastic Bart and MeganFantasticBart and Megan provide interesting and accessible information and analysis to these important topics. They’ve sparked a lot of thought for me and a springboard for further reading and my own review of these topics. I grew up in the Catholic Church and have been an atheist since I was a teenager. The historical and literary information presented provide a much greater context and interest than anything I received when I was a young person in catechism.

CallililleeeCompletely misses he point. The whole point of Jesus incarnation is to bring the love of God to the people. Not once have I heard the love of Christ from either the host of the show or the speaker. This podcast is like a specially decorated cake made of feces.

#trainhardfighteasyThoughtful, Relatable, AltruisticDr. Ehrman has all the knowledge of a top scholar, without the stuffy pretension. I like his jovial chuckles sprinkled throughout. I also can hear the compassion and humility in his voice when he’s expressing a thought that may be difficult for some listeners to hear. I’ve found him endearing and gravitate to his demeanor. I’m a Christian and an Ehrman fan!!! He is the kind of person I can learn from without feeling like my faith is being assaulted.

holdfxstPriceless.Priceless information and teaching from Dr Ehrman. I do not agree with Bart regarding a disbelief in God based on human suffering. Nearly all cases of human suffering have other humans at its root; either by human intervention or lack thereof. Regardless, I’ve learned a lot and I’m grateful for Barts teachings. Also, Megan is a great host. She could give a masterclass on hosting a podcast. Great job to all involved.

IvanChazStop laughing!!I’d rate this a solid 5 Star except the constant laughter is over the top. You start sounding like you’re unhinged or fake. Enjoy life Bart but come on every statement doesn’t need laughter.

SurgoncVery interesting.Very useful information about questions I have often thought about. My main complaint is that there is too much chuckling!

mister_hat88Solid biblical history for the New TestamentI appreciate the way that Bart breaks down complicated issues in simple language. Anyone who translates science/research/scholar speech into everyday language knows how difficult it can be. If I were to add a couple gentle criticisms, I would say to skip the small talk at the beginning, that is just me though. I would also be interested in the co-host playing devils advocate sometimes in order to make the biblical conversations more compelling. That’s all, thanks for making a great podcast!

TruckingVicVery informative and educational.I love your show you guys do a great job. Thank you for what you do.

Tyler BransonA lot of infoIf you are interested in Jesus and the New Testament, Misquoting Jesus is a must subscribe. This podcast is basically an ongoing college course.
-
APBAEddieGreat ShowThis is a great show for anyone interested in biblical history and formation. Not just for scholars

cbrown123Just Stick to the (New Testament) FAQsGreat conversations that will provoke you to seek out more. My only criticism and this is very trivial but annoying enough for me to say something. I am not a small talk guy. Each episode starts off with Bart and Megan talking about personal things, which is fine, but it feels uncomfortably forced. I just fast forward so it’s not a problem but I can’t be the only one who thinks this.

kwf2011Informative and objectiveMisquoting Jesus is by far the best bible-focused podcast available. The fact that Ehrman draws a lot fire from Christians and non-Christians alike speaks volumes. Based on my own reading in the field of historical criticism, he represents the mainstream consensus pretty accurately. I appreciate that Ehrman readily acknowledges when he’s going against the consensus and when he’s speculating beyond the historical evidence. Several other podcast that cover similar territory (such as Biblical Time Machine) do not do this so well and often end up passing off their speculative theories as solid historical data. Megan Lewis is a great host. It’s an interesting dynamic between Lewis and Ehrman: she’s a Christian and he is not. The conversations are always polite and centered in historical research.

John triathleteSprawling, erudite, entertaining, and funThe combo of Megan and Bart brings life to ancient writings and ideas. The scholarship is incridible and there’s never a podcast that doesn’t give me new insights into stories I’ve known from childhood. The collaboration between these two scholars is fun, light, and yet very deep into the weeds sometimes — but never without clarity of thought and expression that anyone can understand. I love history, philosophy, literature, languages, and religions and this podcast is jam packed with a rich soup of all of these. And Bart is never hesitant to recognize his own foibles. It’s refreshing in such a smart guy. I recommend this podcast to anyone who wants to get deeper insights into many of the ideas, writings, and history that have made our world what it is.

ArchoneponymousBest Biblical Lecturer and ScholarBart Ehrman is a brilliant lecturer, an endless fountain of knowledge and insight. I have learned more about the Christian Bible from him than from everyone else put together.
-
Wonder_WomenGreat story tellerI love how Bart simply explains the truth without preaching.
-
Quel the belleGotta love Yorkshire pudding and parsnip fans!Dr. Ehrman is so knowledgeable and is great at explaining. He does not deride any believers, although he occasionally mentions the grifter type religious leaders. His cohost is no slouch, teaching ancient languages as she works on her PhD!
-
mnelsonjGreat PodcastI love this podcast. The information is presented in an interesting and informative manner. I do not feel like I am being talked down as a biblical novice. The combination of these makes me want to delve deeper and learn more. The only complaint is not a content issue but an audio issue. I don’t know if Bart needs a better microphone or needs to record in a different room.

VegasmyopiaMisquoting Jesus with Bart EhrmanExcellent dive into the scriptures from a scholarly perspective. Prof Ehrman is able to instantly cross reference and compare scripture from a non biased and neutral position. The podcast approaches material in a serious way, but also makes learning fun and enjoyable.

jsvuniquenicknameAwesomeSo glad I found this.

WenGeeDesignSo informative, yet also entertainingI found this podcast while trying to learn some history about the Bible. Wow, it is a good one. Bart is a wealth of knowledge on the New Testament and is also quite funny. Meghan is an amazing host that asks wonderful questions and of course I love listening to her British accent. They are the perfect duo for this podcast and I really appreciate he’s not trying to influence people to believe one way or another. He’s just wanting to share information that is common knowledge among biblical scholars but that the average lay person does not know. I highly recommend.

Trail lustWaited a long time for this!Beat podcast on these subjects. I have many Bart books and really enjoy the perspective!

John Stryker03ResourceI stumbled upon Ehrman’s work doing an internet search for “Are the Gospels true?” This podcast does a wonderful job of presenting what we know about the Bible-especially the New Testament-in a scholarly and secular manner. I am an agnostic and another thing I like is that though Ehrman is an agnostic as well he isn’t disrespectful of Believers. Unfortunately I’ve run across some atheist/agnostics that are as close-minded as religious fundamentalists. Doctor Ehrman isn’t that way at all. I’ve used this podcast to increase my understanding of the most important literature in Western civilization.
-
SpidercakeMost ExcellentSuch an evenflow understanding. He speaks well. He speaks the truth. But as well, there is a place for “real beyond” spirituality, for which he does not see the door. There is a place in consciousness from which things Jesus said mean something different.
-
SaziDelightful cast and discussionsBart Ehrman is a delight to listen to and read, he’s single-heartedly made me interested in the books of the New Testament. He and his interviewer, Megan Lewis, get to the heart of the issues with intelligence and fun—they’re a great team. I look forward to every new episode!
-
rastykFantastic podcastThis is such an enjoyable podcast - the interviews are great, the discussions are deep, and it’s lighthearted sometimes as well. I’ve looked forward to listening as the new podcasts come out.
-
catbox02Recommend highlyThis is the best. The producer and host is excellent. To have such knowledge presented in such a way, to make it accessible and relatable, from such a dedicated scholar - invaluable!! Just awesome. Love the short intro and the low level pre-topic banter. Keep this up!!

Sinfjotli43Always ExceptionalI’ve been a big fan of Bart and his work for many years so it’s awesome to have new audio content from him on a weekly basis. His passion for the material and his incredible depth of knowledge about it always come through. My one quibble is that if you’re an avid consumer of his work like me, then the vast majority of what you hear here will not be new. Maybe it’s just the case that there’s “nothing new under the sun” in this particular field of scholarship, and that’s not Bart’s fault. Still, I’m always left wanting a little more, hoping to hear something really interesting he’s never talked about in depth before. Guess I’ll have to keep tuning in every week to see where he goes this time!

Anth1234AnthMust listen! This podcast is an incredible resource for anyone who is interested in the history of Christianity, regardless of your faith. For Christians, the information Dr. Ehrman shares is especially important. I grew up as an evangelical Christian, and I believe it is important for Christians to pursue the truth about what Jesus really did and taught (ya know, since he is the central figure of the religion). Thank you for doing this podcast, Dr. Ehrman. Tuesdays are now my favorite day of the week!
-
j13pcAmazing podcastNot only does this podcast offer facts about the history of Christianity that are so interesting and enlightening….but Bart and Meghan (host) are funny and smart and are so adept at holding my attention:)
-
Elzie DAn intellect and ethical scholarSo glad this podcast exists.

Sapphira80So happy to have found thisI have read most of Bart Ehrman’s general audience books, and I was so excited to see he is now doing a podcast. I have been interested in the historical context of the Bible, and basically all the questions that Mr. Ehrman answers in books.

Hookem'Imagine letting an opinion affect your dayNow imagine you sit down to listen to one of the world’s leading biblical scholars discuss topics on a podcast and he refers to your denomination, which we will say totals less than 70 million, as a small minority because there are let’s say nearly 2.5 BILLION Christians. Now imagine you give an amazing lecturer a single star rating because he hypothetically said .06 is a small minority of the hypothetical 2.50 total. If you’re looking for an atheist biblical scholar to make you feel better about your religious views, particularly if you’re a religious fanatic, Dr Ehrman ain’t your man. If you’re interested in the historicity within the biblical text, you won’t be disappointed. I wish I lived in Chapel Hill, because I would kill myself in a game to attend Dr Ehrman’s class.

dalexhoustonMischaracterization of Oriental Orthodox canonI was shocked to hear Dr Ehrman’s description of the canon of the Oriental Orthodox New Testament as being inconsequential or belonging to such a small minority as not to matter. Perhaps Dr Ehrman doesn’t realize that the Oriental Orthodox churches comprise 20% of the Orthodox Christians in the world, with a total population of over 60 million people. Oriental Orthodoxy is the dominant religion in Armenia (94%), the ethnically Armenian Artsakh (98%) and Ethiopia (44%, the total Christian population being 63%). Oriental Orthodoxy is especially the dominant religion in the two Ethiopian regions of Amhara (82%) and Tigray (95%), as well as the chartered city of Addis Ababa (75%). It is also important in Oromia Region (31%). Oriental Orthodoxy is also one of two dominant religions in Eritrea (47%), especially in its highland regions Maekel Region (87%) and Debub Region (86%). It is a significant minority religion in Egypt (10%), Sudan (5%, the total Christian population being 15%), Syria (3%, the total Christian population being 10-11% the rest being Greek Orthodox, Catholic and Church of the East), Lebanon (5%, the total Christian population being 40%) and Kerala, India (1%, the total Christian population being 2.3%). Oriental Orthodoxy is not insignificant by any stretch of the imagination. Get your facts straight, Dr. Ehrman.
