The Trailhead

Running #59

The Trailhead isn’t your typical trail running podcast—we’re not dissecting splits or debating race strategies. Instead, hosts Zoë Rom and Brendan Leonard take you straight to the heart (and funny bone) of the sport, celebrating the people, stories, and quirks that make trail running so special. With a mix of humor, heart, and a little irreverence, we explore the personalities, people, artists, and everyday athletes who give the sport its soul—because trail running is about more than just the miles.

    Changing…
Ah! This has truly been one of my favorite podcasts! I’ve loved the style, format, and content. I have looked forward to it each week. But…the last few weeks have been so disappointing. It’s feeling like everything is too much of a “joke” to the hosts. I’m not feeling like I’m learning new things. The format is rambling. I hope you find your stride with Brendan as a new host…but frankly I’m a bit worried and disappointed!

Great info and inspiration for every kind of runner!
I’m continually entertained and intrigued by the people that Buzz and Zoe bring on the show. They talk to runners that I’ve never heard of and I always walk away having learned something and feeling stoked to get out an run.

    So good!
This podcast is just so freaking good! I’m filled with so much regret that I binged all of the seasons in just a short 2 weeks. I came across The Trailhead while I was in transition from roadie life to trail running, and just learned so much. From the hosts, the segments, and their knowledge, this podcast is really one of the best for both old and new trail runners.

    Stoked for Hardrock
The Hardrock episode was so good. Buzz and Zoe are hitting their stride and the interviews with Courtney and Dale were informative and personable.

    Disappointing Character
I’ve been listening to this show for a while and while I enjoy the show, the latest episode is really disappointing. I work in a local running store as was mentioned in the show, I stay up to date on the latest shoe technology and science and work to provide the best service I can to each customer who comes into the store, and I find it extremely disappointing to hear the host tell people to go to their local shoe store to try on shoes and then go order from running warehouse. I get they sponsor the shoe, but that’s just a kick in the teeth to local stores. I find is especially hypocritical after all the rants and uproar on this hosts behalf following the utmb fallout.

    Local shoe stores
Nooo! Don’t suggest that people go to their local running store to try on shoes and then buy them online. These amazing little stores (shout out to Terra Loco in Rochester MN!) don’t make money by people trying on shoes. To keep them in business please buy from them. Plenty of people do exactly what you’ve suggested but if we all do that we won’t have any local places anymore.

    Always entertaining, always informative
Corinne and Buzz deliver a perfect combo of trail-running smarts and spirit. This pod always brings a smile or three to my face, while simultaneously teaching me a thing or two about this fantastic sport. Thank you for sharing yourselves with us.

    Perfect for the Ultra Newbie
Very happy to have stumbled onto The Trailhead podcast! Buzz and Corrine are highly accomplished, yet down to earth, and their enthusiasm for their sport is infectious. As someone who’s just breaking into the world of ultras, I appreciate all the great information, hacks, wisdom, and entertaining musings they treat their listeners to. There’s a lot of “noise” out there, but I’ll be coming back to this podcast for my continuing education. Kudos and many thanks!

    Well Done
I listen to just about every trail and ultra podcast. The measured, thoughtful and informed hosts, Corrine and Buzz, make this a must for the veteran or newbie. Love the call-ins and how Buzz handles them.

    Buzz is back!!!!
So happy to hear Buzz Burrell again. I was sad to see him go from the FKT podcast he managed with great insights and knowledge. Glad to hear Corrine Malcolm as well who is really sharp. I listed to their first episode and look forward to the next one that is due soon.
