Smoking Gun

In every murder investigation, there's one key item that could bring a killer to justice. But finding it....and knowing what evidence it contains....well that's the challenge. Because the smoking gun could be anything. A bouquet of flowers...a Chinese meal...a mosquito. In this series we tell the remarkable true stories of how everyday items such as these have been the key to unlocking a criminal case. And we unpack the science - revealing the cutting edge techniques and the disciplines mastered over decades, which allow specialist forensic scientists to find this evidence.

Hosted by the UK's most prominent forensic scientist Tracy Alexander.

The best true crime podcast on all fronts
I am genuinely shocked that this is not number one in true crime. How in the world can a mess like "true crime junkie" be placing higher than this excellent podcast?Everything about this is perfect. Even the ads are not annoying, usually. Please keep it coming and hopefully apple's Crazy podcast algorithm will one day place you where you deserve.

    Excellent and fascinating
The narration is top notch, and it’s absolutely fascinating how crimes can be solved with technology and seemingly benign objects. Pollen samples from tires to locate possible crime scenes…wow. One of my new favorite podcasts, and I love the tone of both narrators voices, almost ASMR.

    Rando unassuming item solves crime
Bloody brilliantly simple true crime recipe. Take a complex crime, with all the usual means, motive, and opportunity ingredients, along with sprinkles of victimology and focus on the object of their demise. This is one of the best, single case per episode true crime podcasts for its highly refined, curated, and expertly written and narrated stories. Each sentence is short, meaningful, compelling, and takes you closer to the object, the smoking gun. Forget low quality interviews, extraneous commentary, and rambling hosts. Smoking gun is quality true crime for a discerning true crime listener.

    So good
I just discovered this gem of a true crime podcast. I binged all seven episodes in two days. The only one I was familiar with was the Lindbergh baby. All of the others were new to me. Romala and Tracy present the cases in a matter of fact way that is both informative and professional and, most importantly, interesting. I’m looking forward to many more episodes if the podcast.
