The Making Of A Detective

What exactly happens on the hunt for a killer? The Making Of A Detective tells the story of 5 of Ireland’s most notorious murder cases, told through the lens of the man who once solved them.

In over three decades working in An Garda Síochána, Pat Marry has seen it all. Each episode features a step-by-step account of how justice was ultimately served, with interviews from victims' friends and family, Pat's former colleagues in the force, and The Irish Sun's Stephen Breen to help tell these stories one by one.

Pat's Story begins with the tragic death of Rachel Callaly by her husband Joe O'Reilly and finishes with Aaron Brady's historic 2020 capital murder conviction for the shooting of Garda Adrian Donohoe. Follow along as we share the dramatic details of each case, and how they shaped Pat into one of Ireland's greatest detectives, learning the skills that went into solving each case along the way.

The Making Of  A Detective premiers on November 11th and is brought to you by The Irish Sun.

    An…enthralling…podcast…
This is an enthralling podcast, with those small details that transform it from a run of the mill true crime podcast into something more compelling. My only negative comment would be directed at the narrator, who speaks in a halting, staccato manner that becomes exceedingly grating with each episode. He says, “The amount of steroid (pause) was significant enough to (pause) … and cause him to (pause)…” He tends to deliver four words rapidly and then pause and deliver four more. It’s so repetitious as to be distracting. I appreciate the structure of this podcast, weaving the story of the detective’s life and career in with the stories of the cases. The detective is admirable and fascinating.
