Memory Lane

380
Drama #124

From the writer behind the hit series Pretty Little Liars comes a psychological thriller about mothers, daughters, and the dangers of memory. Alex Bryant has questions only her mother, Cassie, can answer. So when Cassie suggests they both participate in a study on implanted memories and help heal their estranged relationship, Alex believes her chance has finally come. Maybe after a lifetime of wondering, she’ll finally learn who her father is, and why her mother insists on keeping his identity a secret. After the study, the memories Alex receives seem...tainted. Flashes of people that are missing from Cassie’s memories. Places she claims to have never visited. Violent events she swears never happened. As the women retrace Cassie’s steps from a fateful road trip years ago, their relationship is pushed to its breaking point. When Alex is on the brink of discovering the truth a threat from Cassie’s past resurfaces, determined to stop the women in their tracks. Forced on the run from their own minds, Alex and Cassie must trust one another like they never have before, if they have any hope of survival. In Season 2, Alex and Cassie are torn between fleeing to safety and risking it all to help other victims of the memory technology. But when a dangerous new symptom threatens Alex’s life, there is no other choice: to save her, they must trust the enemy. Memory Lane is a Realm production. Season 1 is written by Sara Shepard and Ellen Goodlett; Season 2 is written by Sara Shepard. Listen Away. For more shows like this, visit Realm.fm

    Wow
Starts slow but the last half gets good. Didn’t see the end of season 1 at all.

    It pulls me right in
I’m so invested in this series!! I feel like I’m there with them, and I LLOVE the characters!! I just discovered Realm and this is the second series I’ve gotten so invested in!! This is a MUST LISTEN!!!

    Not working for me
The storyline has potential but I cannot get past the 22 year old daughter’s voice. The actress they chose sounds WAY older and I get very confused as to which character is talking sometimes - the mother or the daughter. I’m 5 episodes in and it’s just too difficult to follow. Like I said, the storyline has potential, so maybe I’ll come back to it someday.

Realm makes the best podcasts and this is one of them
Memory Lane has twists you can’t predict, and manages to give a full plot in such short episodes.

    Boring
I am 5 episodes in and still waiting for something interesting to happen. Plus, the main character’s voice and age don’t match at all. I’m going to move onto the next one on my list.

    Season 3?
I just finished my second listen through and still really enjoyed it. I hope that a third season is in the near future.

    Undecided
I love the story line and the twists; however, not so sure about the characters… although, they are like real people with their good and bad

    Show, Don’t Tell
I have just finished season 1, so my review is based on that. The story is really great. It keeps you interested and you want to find out what happens next. That said, I have two issues with the show. The first is the voice actors they chose. The doctor sounds like an infomercial actor. His voice is soothing, but doesn’t show much emotion. Their is also a character that is meant to be 22, but sounds like a middle-aged woman. My second complaint is with the storytelling. This is an interesting story, but it would make a better book than it would a podcast. There is a famous saying about writing: show, don’t tell. This story is doing too much telling and not enough showing. The details are over-explained. We don’t need to be told that someone laughed if they are actually laughing. We don’t need every detail of what the forest looks like. We don’t need everyone’s hair color. These descriptions make sense during the memories, but not when the character is in the present.

    A great escape from reality
If you love fantasy, weird shows and suspense this is for you. The story is a little hard at first to get into, jumping timelines but, it starts to really unfold and pull you in. The development of the characters and storyline are great. I can’t wait to see what happens each week.

    Weird timeline, interesting idea
I’m halfway through the story and realize they did a great job at developing the main character. As I went along, the more detestable Alex becomes. They did a great job of portraying the entitled, I know better than everyone else child of my generation. She’s unbearable. The story leaves intrigue, I want to know what happens next while trying to piece things together. Timeline is odd. The mom does a road trip in a VW bus as a late teen/early 20 something and is only 43 but listened to indie rock at that time, yet the technology is advanced enough to have neurostimulators that give happy memory dopamine shots….odd fantasy timeline.

    Cassie (the mother)
Can’t stand the mom she is manipulative to her daughter. Having her go through all these experimental trails to get her memories but refused to tell her the truth. Good story line but the mothers is not

    Captivating series
I have so enjoyed the first season while taking my COVID daily walks. I remember as a kid waking up Saturday morning early to listen to The Lone Ranger over my cornflakes. Podcasts are a nice respite from so much visual media.

    No.
I do not like Alex at all. Her entire character is terrible and selfish. I can’t accept her it’s terribleness. The plot is somewhat ok. The memory altering part is amazing though but it’s destroyed by the rest.

    Fantastic!
I loved the memory technology premise and the mother-daughter drama. Great combo that made for a very interesting story!

    That’s it?
I REALLY liked this story and was getting drawn in more and more and then… It just ends. It feels like we’ve only just starting to reach the climax of the story. But there’s no climax and no ending. There is so much left unresolved. I really hope there’s a Season Two or this feels like the writers didn’t know how to end this and just cut it off. :/

This is a great story, left me yearning for more.

    Satisfying LGBTQ+ positive Binge
Great voice acting, unique storyline filled with suspense. Perfect length for a rainy day binge. Please release a second season! *only complaint* the VA playing Alex, the 20ish daughter, sounds older than her mom.

    Too much
This podcast is ridiculous. The mom wanted to do this study but doesn’t want her daughter to know about her father? She’s manipulative and an awful mother.

    Couldn't finish this series
As a fan of twisty TV and audiodramas, I dived right into Memory Lane. After four episodes, however, I had to jump off because I wasn't getting enough in terms of story or performance. The plot didn't move as quickly as I had hoped (it takes until episode 2-3 for the main conept to emerge), and like other Realm podcasts the sound design is very minimal and it is screaming out for some music/score to set the scene. As others have noted, this is less an audiodrama and relies heavily on narration; narration that is too verbose than it needs to be. It also bears noting that the actress who plays the daughter sounds older than her mother (and never refers to her as "mom"). Maybe the show improves in the back half, but I wasn't engaged enough to keep going.

Great plot— a mystery with strong female leads
Posting this before I finish episode 7 The story line is strong and tight — much of it takes place outdoors in nature. California woods come alive with sound effects ambience. Definitely a five star ⭐️ production even without knowing the ending! *Episode 6 is out of order here on Apple iPhone so be aware if you are allowing podcasts to continue without stopping to see which is next. My Amazon Alexa also played it out of order as I have it connected to my iPhone.

    Great story!
This was different than the usual story podcast/audio drama. There was narration from the main character + the story acting itself out. Usually it’s more of you’re a listener to the scenes. The story was well written, a times a bit awkward but I think it’s because the main character is very articulate. Overall Realm released a good show!

    Worth a Listen
Loved the story line as well as the sound effects. Very much like listening to an audiobook.
  • Gilbercrat
    Decent concept, subpar execution
I’ve become mildly obsessed with audio dramas over the past year and was excited to check this one out - especially based on how they compared it to Black Mirror. However, this really isn’t produced in the style of an audio drama - it’s more so a mildly souped up audio book, with the distinction being an almost literary style of writing. Too much air time is wasted on the narration of pointless details versus focusing on storytelling through audio techniques and acting. Speaking of acting…dear lord. TERRIBLE casting choice for Alex. She’s supposedly a recent college grad yet sounds like a 47 year old divorcé whose most prized possessions are her wine cellar and caftan collection. I almost DNF’ed multiple times because the acting was so cringe. I’d encourage the creators to check out shows like Limetown or The Bright Sessions…that’s where the bar is set.

    Love this podcast
I really love this podcast and everything it has a interesting plot and everything. The memory lane is an interesting topic of choice and it gets really interesting. Like what is going to happen next or I wonder if Alex is not hurt or if Cassie is going to get her memories back to normal. I would love to have new episodes every day or 2 every three days. The episodes can go longer than just 55min or 30 min. So can you please make them a bit more longer. If your not busy with work or school (if your still in school). Any who I really love this podcast and your doing great!
  • Preshsofresh
    Meh
The voice acting is horrific, sorry. It’s as if they don’t talk like normal people would. The story isn’t bad but not worth continuing.
  • Catfacedmeowmer
Love the concept, not worth the time
twists for twists' sake is a tired song. Tired of stories like LOST influencing stories like these in the sense that they allow the writers to say nothing, over the course of many, many episodes
  • newamerykahn
    Promising Beginning, Poor Execution
Was an interesting concept, but like most media and shows these days, you have to be lobotomized to continuously enjoy. Though the relationship between the mother/daughter duo is strained at best, Cassie’s continuous dismissive attitude to her daughter who is describing adverse reactions to an experimental process is not only annoying, but asinine. She signed herself and daughter up for an experimental scientific procedure, has no scientific background and/or acumen, and is not in the least bit concerned that things may not have gone as intended when her daughter begins describing strange phenomenon. Even if she fully commits to the process, any mother who actually at all cares for their child might at least want to take them to get checked out or leave an environment that’s distressing their child. I don’t have the patience for it 7 episodes but good luck to those of you that do.

Nice fiction podcast , great job 👏
Hold up!! DID THIS END AFTER EPISODE 5???? I’m enjoying the Memory Lane story. This is my first experience with this type of podcast. I LOVE audiobooks as I’m a book nerd who has a lot of driving to do & this is almost exactly that - except completely free! Thanks to everyone at The Realm. Keep up the good work ✌️! * I wrote that before it disappeared. Where is episode 6? Other stories on Realm continue to advertise this but there’s no more content! And the advertisement is kind of a spoiler. That takes me to a 4 star rating but I’m not going to change my 5 star even though this is really shotty execution of a podcast. ** Check out Timesuck, Is We Dumb, or Scared to Death (All Bad Magic Productions) & you’ll never be without content. They keep their work very transparent w/the family of listeners & well, it’s definitely worth checking out!

I’m really enjoying the podcast 👍

So great EXCEPT for BAD ACTING
Why would everyone put so much work into getting everything perfect? Perfect script. Perfect production. Perfect editing...And then get actors who sound like they are in high school doing their first run through of a script? Did nobody with the power to say “I vetoed this get someone better” give it a listen before this was posted? Or before the bad actors were allowed to proceed? Will you just please redo the whole thing with good actors? Thank you. Otherwise awesome
  • Mamabird35
    Interesting story, mediocre acting
I love these types of stories and am addicted to Black Mirror and other dark, phycological thrillers but I’m having a hard time getting past the acting. It’s sounds like the actors just got the script and are doing their first read through. It just doesn’t sound natural. I’m going to try the next one and hope it gets better because the idea is great...

    Like a Black Mirror episode
Five minutes in the future, salty mother/daughter relationship, and a trippy road trip. Definitely hooked me and can’t wait for the next episodes!

    interesting premise
is it bad that i relate to this mother/daughter dynamic?? ...asking for a friend
  • Cole123-
    Absolutely addicting!
I love both of these authors so much— this is the dream team. It has flavors of Inception with a fascinating mother-daughter dynamic and a creepy mystery.

Memoryyyy all alone in the mOoOnlight
Fascinating concept that stuck with me long after I finished the last episode (like all good sci-fi does). The dysfunctional Mother-Daughter duo are the perfect unlikely action heroes. Top notch sound design and quality voice actors make you feel like you’re living the episodes alongside the characters. I cant wait for season two especially after the ending!! Great work Realm
