Mathew Price. I’m a big fan of his. He is on point on how he gets the sound to be phenomenal. And he breaks down how it’s not just you getting the actors voice or sound that’s just a little part of your job. So I definitely think this is a must for me to learn this job!

I really loved this and it thought me a lot with editing and cameras, I also learned how to do lighting from this too and some tips I thought. This podcast would help me a lot with what I am trying to do and could find myself listening to this everyday!!

As a film student myself, I find it very helpful to be able to hear from professionals not only in the areas I want to work in, but in all aspects of a film crew. The interesting thing about this podcast is it’s ability to bring information to me without me getting bored or uninterested, i’m always intrigued to hear more about a subject.

The production manager seems to have a lot of weight riding on their shoulders. From hiring and firing crew members, to learning a script inside and out, all the way to determining the budget for a film. It is no small task to be a production manager on a small scale or large scale film set. However what seems to be the most intriguing part about being a UPM (Unit Production Manager) to me is the hiring of people for certain positions within the film crew. Hiring talented and skilled individuals is important, but hiring locally based on the region a production is filming is important too. It’s cool to see that they are taking a more blended approach to hiring people of production crews now, as opposed to the past.

The film industry is a giant, complex, working machine with hundreds of moving parts. If you make the decision to jump in and didn’t grow up on sets like a lot of Hollywood working families, it’s always a steep learning curve assimilating to the many many roles necessary to make a viable product. That’s where film crew 101 steps in. It’s a simplistic format, but very nitty gritty when it comes to displaying what the major players behind the screen must do every day to be a success at their job and make their days. Understanding each role is integral to becoming a valuable addition to a set. If you are wanting to make the jump into any position of filmmaking, dive in each episode and you’ll be on your way.

He has so much passion for what he chooses to support and educate people on and I am a big fan ever since Richard inspired me to start my own podcast. This show is needed and it’s very informative, but still down-to-earth and relatable. Many of us can learn from these pros and feel like we are ready to start joining the crew! Way to go, Richard!
