I’ve listened to every episode dozens of times and I turn to this podcast whenever I’m having a bad day because I know it will always make me smile and laugh. Marlon and Jake are amazing hosts and I love their passion and enthusiasm for literature. I hope new episodes will be released soon!

20digitsOne half a great showA book discussion show with the insightful and entertaining Mahlon is dragged down by his pedantic off kilter editor vho bores as he breathes .
-
Piffles1276Simply the bestThis is hands down my favorite book podcast. So happy to have you back!!
-
CMJ682Welcome back!So glad to hear you!

mspassell5577645 stars!!!As experts in the publishing industry and total book lovers, Marlon and Jake have great takes about books we were supposed to love but don’t. By limiting themselves to books written by authors who have died, they stay in a safe space of not hurting anyone’s feelings. At worst they yuck our yum. Through fun conversations, they really define what makes us love certain books, what makes the industry like certain books, and what makes readers like certain books. It’s the kind of honesty we don’t always get.

PField35Hello againI realize you both have commitments that keep you from recording these podcasts on a regular basis but know that I keep a candle burning in the window awaiting your return. Thank you for these brilliant conversations.
-

SugarBabyMaleTalk about living authors as wellIt is embarrassing. Just talk about *all* the books. These two are a great pair with natural chemistry and a deep love and knowledge of literature. They speak of books with the erudition, humor, and love that you hope you can convey to your own friends. But! The ridiculous artificiality of only talking about dead authors means they wind up circling the same authors and topics time and again, and frequently self-censoring when they clearly want to speak about a contemporary author. So embarrassing. Just talk about literature in general like the professionals you are. This would be an easy 5-Star Must Listen podcast for lovers of literature, if it wasn’t for their self-censoring.
-
KittyLikestoReadPlease come back to usI so miss listening to your conversations. Please come back and talk books to us. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
-
maureenbrandlOBSESSEDI enjoy the banter between the two hosts so much that I have re-listened to all the episodes 3+ times. Definitely my favorite podcast about books. Please come back with a new season. We need you!
-
Librarian1000Hello (tap tap) Is this thing on????Love listening to this podcast. Extremely disappointed you have been gone for so long. (small tear running down my cheek) Please tell us you are coming back with more great reads.
-
LuRitsBueller? Bueller?I love this podcast and the banter between the hosts. But are you ever coming back?
-
TjlcMy To-Read list keeps growingI love hearing Marlon and Jake discuss the merits snd failings of old books. I’ve been binge listening, so am noticing it’s a bit repetitive (ok, Marlon! I promise I’ll read The Wide Sargasso Sea!). I’m still excited to hear all the things they have to say!
-
mnlibSmart book talkThis is my new favorite book related podcast! I could listen to Marlon James all day, I love his accent! I find their commentary on authors insightful and entertaining.
-
myodharmRespect for womenI very much enjoy this podcast. But during this episode, when you referred to Zora Neal Hurston, you referred to her consistently as “Zora” while referring to every male author by their last names. Subtle disrespect, unconsciously spoken, and demeaning to an author you supposedly respect. I believe as hosts in the spirit of the podcast, you should bring more awareness of how you refer to female writers.
-
Eri.JaneAmazing podcastI cannot get enough of this podcast. It’s interesting, funny, insightful and informative. Jake and Marlon balance each other well, listening to them feels like the book club discussions I need in my life. I also love that the books discussed show up in the show notes so I can look them up later. Every episode is worth listening to!
-

-
KissMeKate94Conversations I love being “in the room” forI don’t know most of the works they talk about, but I love being able to listen in on interesting, intelligent conversations about books. And now I’m reading more books by dead people!
-
Lackawanna ReaderDavid Foster WallaceLove your show. I listen every week. Huge fan of both your opinions and Marlon’s works. I would love to hear an opinion on Infinite Jest. Wallace is a dead author I have never read and before I dive into his books I would love to hear your thoughts. Greg Staniszewski English teacher Avid reader Lackawanna NY
-
Greenie61Read Dead People!!I could listen to Marlon and Jake for hours (and have)! They are smart and funny talking about great books worth reading and bad books which should be skipped. So glad they are back for Season 2!
-
GoaldiggersGreat discussion but..,When are you going to get into David Foster Wallace?
-
Katydid1000FavoriteI love, love, love this podcast!
-
HopedeDopeBlood on the ForgeI love the show but if you’re going to suggest reading a new book please talk about the book more, I got excited, ordered the book, read it, enjoyed it but was a bit disheartened that you spent 10 minutes talking about it maybe that’s not the point of reading a book but I assumed wrongly that a reading assignment would net a longer conversation.
-
MGtheMackPerfect pod for book loversThe podcast I have been waiting for. More of this guys. Thank you.
-
pmethrLoveWish I had known about this sooner. Enjoying the archived episodes.
-
FAN1QSplendidOne of the few podcasts I love. Can you guys do an episode on crime/noir authors? Talk about David Goodis for me!
-
DKLartsWhat a discovery!I just discovered this podcast and I’m loving it! The two hosts bring knowledge and insight but also entertaining personal perspectives. I’ve listened to 3 episodes and my to-read list is growing quickly—but I’m proud to say I’ve read a decent percentage of the books they mention. I enjoy listening when I’m out for my hikes. Also—I really liked Wise Blood!
-
gg_x34Can’t believe how much I love this podcast! This podcast makes me wish I’d gotten a Ph.D in literature. Far from boring, Jake and Marlon have me hanging on their every word! Please keep this podcast going forever! You may have a niche audience, but it’s a rabid one!

Dora the DestroyerExcited for Season 2I am so happy you guys are back! I love the easy rapport and joking nature you have with each other. I read Black Leopard, Red Wolf after season 1 and loved it (can’t wait for the sequel). I have been a lifelong reader and this podcast has opened my eyes to new things to read and reminded me of classics I should or shouldn’t reread. Looking forward to the new season!
-

book scout guyMandatory listening if you enjoy literatureSo fun
-
beaudetgirlsSo happy you’re coming back! Missed you guys a ton!So interesting to hear what these guys think about some of the classics, and authors.
-
Dinosaur61Funny and OpinionatedJust discovered this podcast and it is adorable! Very succinct and opinionated views on books, a surprising number of which I have read. I often disagree with both of you, but that is part of the fun. For example, Greek myths celebrate powerful women, and fairy tales warn children of real dangers; living through a Kansas winter took real guts, and so on. . .
-
zora08Hurray!I am so excited for season 2! Love you guys ❤️.
-
lcm81DelightfulI love this podcast. It is a joy to listen to brilliant people who love to read casually chitchat about books. Also gives you great ideas for what to read next. Can’t wait for season 2! As long as it leaves time for Marlon to work on his Dark Star trilogy...
-
