After Midnight: Phish's Big Cypress Festival

381

The definitive retrospective of one of music’s most memorable festivals, Phish’s Big Cypress. In December of 1999, Phish drew an estimated 80,000 to the Big Cypress Indian Reservation in Florida’s Everglades, making this festival the largest Millennium Eve concert on earth. We look back on the festival 20 years later—and examine the legacy for Phish and the music world. Hosted and narrated by Jesse Jarnow, this five-episode series draws on interviews with members of Phish and its crew, fan memories, and conversations with other people across the music industry.

A lovely reminder of a singular experience
Thanks for putting together a wonderful reminiscence of Big Cypress, a once-in-a-lifetime party. So grateful to have been able to be there and so grateful for Phish, their crew, and fellow artists who made it all possible. This podcast was a fantastic listen and brought back some incredible memories.

    Awesome
Great podcast. Did nobody mention the giant paper airplanes in the tree or did I miss that? I could have missed it. This brought back lots of memories. Wish they would do something like this again.

    Great listen
It really makes me wish I went. They do a great job with telling the whole story and have a bunch of great background music. This is a must listen for a Phish phan.

    Amazing
Why I love phish. Because they are one of us. Trey talking about his warmup prior to taking stage and the energy on the other side of the wall. This band has built that energy of goodness. To the way episode 5 begins when he arrives home and hopped right back in family mode (as we always do) as he runs out to get the cold cuts. We are in this together. I love you guys. You are good natured. Best band ever We love more as we have been on this journey with you. I keep pinching myself as I can’t believe the band of my youth sounds better now.

    Hit the spot!
Done in a way that brought me right back to the swamp. Recreated the experience, so that hopefully, those that couldn’t attend can feel the emotional journey we went on during that overnight set. So good!!!

    Thin Air
Would have preferred the sound of Thick Air to all of the “tuning” and annoying static.

You guys absolutely nailed this production! I just finished and the hair on my arms is still standing at attention....this happened numerous times throughout my listen. I felt like I was transported back in time...the sights, sounds, smells, and green powder. Thank you so much for your effort!

    Wish I was there
I have been a phan since 1993. I was at the Clifford Ball, the Great Went and Lemonwheel. I really wanted to go and this is priceless to me 20 years later.

For the phan who can’t get enough
I love learning more about the people and ideas behind the scenes in the great phish adventure. I have so much admiration and respect for the 4 guys and podcasts like highlight the colorful tapestry of all who make this a Sea of Love, including the phans. Thank you!

In depth and full of awesome nuggets
I thought I was going to have to wait until the Big Cypress box set release in 2040 to get a documentary style deep-dive, so this is incredible. Love listening to this having not been there but having listened to the show many, many times.

A must listen for any Phish Phan
When I heard the promo I was thrilled. It’s still the best New Years Celebration I’ve been a part of. Now I’m on edge waiting for Episode 2.

Deep dive into the most epic concert by any band, ever
This look at Phish’s millennium eve concert at the Big Cypress Indian Reservation is phenomenal so far. Can’t wait to hear the rest of these episodes! Should be required listening for 3.0 noobs.

    Spectacular podcast
While it is true there’s a little overlap between LMTR and this podcast, the perspective and insight gained by listening to AMBC more than makes up for it! Jesse Jarnow is a true fan of live music and is a great choice for the narrator. Outstanding job - kudos to all involved!

    Phenomenal 🐟🐠🐡
Outstanding introspective, & behind-the-scenes glimpse, into Phish. This will also make you truly appreciate the time and energy, Trey, Fish, Page, Mike, & Phish’s Crew, put into what we, the Phans, get to see and appreciate, when seeing the band. Outstanding on all levels. Thank You, sincerely, to the producers and those who made this podcast. 🙏🏼

    Outstanding Podcast
Best put together Phish podcast out there these days. These guys should have gotten to do Long May they Run. Better narrator and production all around! Kudos!

Perfect Phan service for any traffic jam!
As a Big Cypress veteran I really relish in reliving the excitement of what lead up to the festival and all the ongoings from within. I’d sit through traffic all over again to relive that epic NYE, and this podcast ignites my passion for that phestival fun!
