Jackpot1976Jumped the shark with GarfieldThis episode was honestly terrible. The host could hardly read from a Wikipedia page, mispronounced everything and obviously didn't do anything to prepare. This topic just didn't have an hour of content and should not have been aired. Ugh.

222rvHello from your pastI LOVE this show! I don’t remember how I found it. I do remember hearing an ad and thinking it sounded like a happy version of a sad podcast I love and I’m totally right, to the point where when one of you covers something the other already did I think I’ve heard the episode before, but I listen anyway don’t worry. Anyway when I found you in 2023 I decided to start at the beginning so I listen to a few a week. I’m currently in June of 2022 so if you read this review I probably won’t hear it for at least a year if not more. But I could no longer listen to you ask for reviews and pretend mine wouldn’t count because I’m so behind. I’m currently missing Amanda on her maternity leave but enjoying everyone else so much. I love all of you equally, sorry Chris, (man I hope that joke is still relevant!) and it’s my favorite thing when I am caught up on my daily podcasts to sit and enjoy your brand of history and humor, two of my most favorite things! I can see how this got people through the pandemic and it’s helping me through the right now. This show is joy, anxiety, common sense, and nonsense all together and somehow that feels like just what we need right now. Can’t wait to catch up one day (hopefully before your 1000th episode!) Much love!

JRC2683Love thisReally love this podcast! I love the aftermath too. I think it’s so fun to close it all out. Have you ever done one on Typhoid Mary? I think that would be really interesting.

JK1777Too many adsThis might be an interesting and informative podcast but there are so many ads, it’s difficult to keep listening.

NappyDresserYay! 😱Thanks Hollywood Crime Scene Nod to this Alarmy Podcast!Love it ❤️

genxorcistCacklingIt’s the cackling. This is a nervous/attention-seeking tic that is all too common, especially with women podcasters whose voices are already grating and deliberately high pitched. They cackle loudly every few words for no reason. Nothing is funny. Got 16 minutes into one episode and could stand it no more.

Baggin Saggin MaryVery EnjoyableI heard about this podcast from The Office Ladies and I think it’s great. Rebecca does a great job giving the information necessary for us to catch up with the topic. I especially love how all of the conservatives are peeved about it. Yeah, they are liberal, but they’re also comedians. Don’t think they’ve ever claimed to be professors in history.

KEB321So helpful when dealing with jerks.Thank you so much for this podcast! I am constantly telling people about it. Learning about history this way really helps me retain the details, and knowledge is power. Just yesterday, there was an arrogant man at work who likes to show off his knowledge of history..it’s ridiculous, but unfortunately I was unable to leave the room when he started peppering everyone with questions. He didn’t think anyone could name the bombs used in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He asked me directly, and I calmly replied with the right answers and it took the wind out of his sails a bit. Appreciate the help from you all!

itwasntmesir45No just noIs there anyone in this industry that has an ounce self awareness? The real world doesn't hate men, isn't obsessed with race, and definitely doesn't care about your political opinions or want them injected into every episode. It's so overdone tired and the worst way to make a good podcast. Insulting your would be listeners is mean spirited and arrogant. Come on! Read the room not funny comedians.

AnnC430So funny! The cast and guests are great! BUT please learn the proper pronunciation of names! It makes listening easier. The Troy episode I had to cut short because of it.

kittenpeanutjonesGuess what? Conservatives and the “Patriarchy” are the problem 🙄Great idea for a podcast, but it soon becomes clear that they will find a way to blame conservatives, capitalism, or the catch-all phrase now used to represent all evil doing “the patriarchy” are the cause of EVERYTHING bad that has happened in history. Listening to the episode that discussed the “Clinton-Lewinsky” scandal, I at first got very excited to hear one of the hosts ACTUALLY CALL OUT the second wave feminists of that era for the disgusting way they treated not just Monica, but Linda Tripp and Paula Jones during the scandal, completing abandoning and condemning all three of them (not to mention joining in on decimating all three of these women on their physical appearance). I had a moment of hope, thinking “Oh wow! For once, these hosts are going to actually get it right AND assign responsibility to something other than what their liberal talking points memo tells them is acceptable!” Not 30 seconds later, the same host says “Actually, I’m going to walk back that comment…because what really was at fault there was (wait for it…you know it’s coming…starts with a “P”)….THE PATRIARCHY!” 🙄 It felt like being trapped in Fahrenheit 451 where an alarm had gone off somewhere that someone had thought independently for themselves for a minute and then quickly had to correct it. Sad. Predictable. And not worth the time.

Wellduh325Jenna Fischer and I listen to the same podcast!I heard about this podcast from The Office Ladies and I am right there with Jenna Fischer, I’m obsessed with this podcast! Rebecca does an outstanding job explaining historical events in an interesting way. I can’t stop telling people about this show. My husband loves listening with me and we’ve had amazing conversations as a result of the topics. I’m still near the beginning, but I explored all the 500+ episodes and every topic I’m interested in learning about has been covered. I can’t wait to get to those! Thank you for all your hard work on this podcast. It’s absolutely binge worthy.

Scrat-it-tat-tatGreat Podcast!Funnest echo chamber I’ve ever listened in on. But seriously, they’re comedians, they don’t claim to be experts. However the host is very knowledgeable about history. I’m only about 10 episodes in so maybe it changes but they don’t bring in anybody that knows anything about the specific event or time that they are looking at. They tend to cast blame through the lens of their own California liberal biases, you know everything is the fault of the patriarchy, religion, and climate change. But they surprise you sometimes. They also tend to judge centuries old events and people by modern social standards and mores. But, having said all that, they do talk through things and try to be objective. It’s very fun to listen to. I like listening to people I don’t always agree with. These guys are fun and Rebecca is a great mediator of conversation.

KQC2214Great podcast!!Proud member of the alarmy here:) Heard this mentioned once on another podcast( office ladies?) but I’m so glad I found it. I’m years behind (only in 2021) but it’s amazing!! I love the takes and deep dives into sources for each case it’s amazing the amount of effort and research goes in and the comedy moments keep it light but with respect to the real tragedies being covered. Definitely a great way to get a little bit of history and some cautionary tales on long drives or doing chores around the house! I absolutely love Rebecca, Chris, Amanda, Clayton, and all the guests and the addition of guest experts has elevated the podcast that much more:) recommedations for tragedies: real: Boston marathon bombing (I was in the city on the day/from the area at 10 yo it was a pretty intense event to go through) fake: hunger games (themselves or the first book/movie)
-
J.SkilesPishThey struggled with who to blame for the attack on pearl harbor. America? Hitler? Xenophobia?? Must be one of those
-
Manda48Very entertainingI heard about this podcast from The Office Ladies. I absolutely love the concept and find myself agreeing with the verdict quite often. I enjoy that you cover a wide variety of disasters, including some fictional ones. Keep up the good work!

Agnieszka638926Super fun and informative showI love that show is both funny and I’m also learning a lot.

jubffcdgWe should all be a little Alarmist these days.Stumbled upon this podcast back in 2020 when I was looking for anything to distract myself from reality and I found it at the perfect time. The show takes a modern look back at historical tragedies and decides (lightheartedly) who should take the blame. The show features the Alarmist herself, Rebecca Delgado Smith, along with producer Clayton Early (hello.) and fact-checker Chris Smith (hi!) and their light and humorous approach to some heavy and depressing topics is really the key to making it fun. I could see a concept like this being a tough listen if hosts didn’t approach it the may they do. My favorite piece is the aftermath episode where Rebecca interviews an expert on the specific tragedy and they are always educational. The gang will then reconvene and decide if they got it right the first time. Luckily they are never shy to admit when they were way off base and need to take a look back at their original decision. The topics and research are always interesting and the interaction with each other, the special guests and experts is what will keep bringing me back for more episodes. Consider joining their Patreon for extras and more in-depth conversations. Keep up the great work Alarmist team!

KEBonvillLove love loveLove this podcast! Thank you, keep up the great work!

Kimg78Alarmist/Web Crawlers CrossoverOMG thank you! This crossover is exactly what I need to survive COVID lockdown. Since then I have listened to your whole catalog and have been come a fan of all of you!
-
KevinSomeLynnGreat Podcast!!And that Rebecca is HAAAAAAAWWTT!!
-
gdvdvvaI can’t be the only one.I wonder how many people have unfollowed this podcast after things like the episode, where they sat around, clutching their pearls about BDSM. It’s a pity, because it used to be good, and they should’ve stayed to history.
-
PretzgelMy new best friends.I love the people. Great format and nice blend of topics. Edit: still excellent a couple years into listening, maybe even better! I, too, have a goofball husband, so I love Chris. Such a treasure, as are Rebecca and Clayton.
-
lkahhdhdudiReviewWhat a breath of fresh air. Yes, they have their fun with the subject matter but 99% they are serious about what they are reporting. 5 stars
-
Kt LimoTwo thumbs upThis podcast is a really fun way to learn about historic events(and some pop culture events). Really enjoying it.
-
AngelizabefLove it!I enjoy their break downs of history’s greatest tragedies. I even have learned about some I haven’t even heard of. They add a bit of humor to each episode that makes it a bit lighter than could be.
-
ckey98Interesting but always wokeInteresting stories but take them with a grain of salt. The hosts are always determined to blame capitalism, sexism, racism, etc. Many of these events are much more complex than can be explained in half an hour.
-
DIY meat hunterGreat content but not comedyThe host claims that this is a comedy podcast but after listening to a couple dozen episodes I think they need to remove that moniker. They have wonderful content but it’s not funny. If they want comedy n the mix they should listen to Last Podcast on the Left and mimic them. I suppose it could be argued there’s comedy here but I don’t see it

BakerGirl357Obsessed!Like so many of the Alarmy, I found the Alarmist podcast through the Office Ladies in December 2022. My OCD wouldn’t let me start with current episodes, so I started all the way back at the pilot and quickly fell in love! I have been binging them all year and end up talking about the episodes with all my coworkers and friends. Honestly, I can work it into every conversation. 😂 It’s been so interesting starting at the beginning and listening to you all navigating the pandemic not being able to warn you that it’s going to get so much worse before it gets better. Anyway, the tragedies are all so interesting, the material well researched (special shout out to Alex! I’ve enjoyed all of the guests so far, but I especially enjoy when she’s the guest - it’s like having a guest expert right there in the episode!). The chemistry between Rebecca, Chris, Clayton and Amanda is entertaining, thought provoking, and comforting. It feels like sitting with a group of close friends. I often find myself arguing or contributing to the discussions…which I’m sure looks entertaining to the other drivers around me while I listen in my car! I’m so glad I found this podcast and really hope it makes it to 1 million episodes! Thank you! Keep up the good work! 🤗

Bad AdvuseGreat showInteresting and not stupid

WazistticPassages my day with info/humorFinally started using Podcast, found you, rolled all the way back to the beginning. the day flys by chuckling at work. You, Amanda, Hubby and guests are definitely Historians and hilarious. Great job!
-
DavemencelListen to this Pod!The Cleopatra episode sucked me in, and it was wonderful. But since then, I’ve been binge listening at an alarming rate (though I have only made it to the Jurassic Park episode this far). It amazes me that such great content is available at no charge. The chemistry between all contributors involved is great, and they hit an unappreciated fine line between humor and insult (they’re talking about tragedies while being a comedy podcast after all). I particularly love the Aftermath episodes where they bring in a true expert to weigh in on the conversation, and the group has zero ego about occasionally admitting they were wrong in their original judgement. This podcast has reinvigorated my love of history by making it fun and accessible. They’ve actually inspired me to go back and read multiple history books (looking at you, Midnight in Chernobyl) and bore my spouse to tears with history facts!
-
C-guy0Great PodcastThanks for this informative & entertaining podcast! Binging to catch up!
-
landmarker1Fantastic Pod!All the episodes are great with fascinatingly deep conversations and humor plus genuine hosts! Every week is a lesson in history and humanity. Some topics I have heard of before but never gave much thought to, some I distinctly remember happening in my lifetime. It’s a whole experience that will make you more interesting at parties!

TarracliaAlarming How Good This IsDo you like history? Love to laugh? Need a podcast for driving? Look no further than The Alarmist! I have been listening to Rebecca and crew since March 2020 and have never looked back. The show has gotten better by adding Guest Experts every Thursday. I love to listen to learn whether I was right or wrong. 5⭐️ for a great show. Ps I would have written this review earlier but have a technological deficit. Glad I finally found the button.

Kitties!!!😻😻Informative, hilarious, and clean!!So entertaining with rarely any curse words! It’s the perfect combination of history, debate, and humor!

Chester Trev FultonMust Hear EntertainmentI was turned onto the show this year by the Office Ladies and quickly became an Alarmy . I have loved the topics , guests and the hosts . It’s my go to podcast every Tuesday and Thursday . Sadly I blasted thru all of the back episodes so now I must wait impatiently weekly to get my fix . Keep up the great work - Can’t wait to here what’s next Kelly - Buffalo NU

-
lieshaloo08Love youuuI was sent here by Office Ladies and I’m SO GLAD! I struggle to find podcasts that hold my attention and I LOVE THIS PODCAST! It covers interesting topics but keeps things light hearted and so so funny! I learn things school never taught me and get a good laugh!!
-
PrgoodgirlLove this podcast!Perfect amount of history and humor. Love hearing from the experts too! I’m behind but I just finished listening to the Bhopal Gas Tragedy. My mom used to work at a Union Carbide subsidiary in Puerto Rico. She worked there for years. I had no idea something like that happened. Probably cause I was an infant, but never heard my mom talk about it so I don’t think she knew either. Keep up the great work! I too get anxious and catastrophize. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one.

TTC5Bus dump? “Waste” of time!I have listened to several of these shows, but I have to say the one about The Dave Matthews tour bus dumping the contents of the toilet tank was ridiculous. Other than the follow up interview with an experienced tour bus company owner, it was just a lot of jokes and not really that informative. The fact that one of the show participants doesn’t like the band has no bearing on this case. There was no follow up, which is strange since the incident happened in 2004.
-
z125729Collab with office ladies!?Love this podcast 🙌🏽 I heard about this podcast through the office ladies and have been binging it ever since. It would be so amazing if y’all did a collab together! You can figure out who’s to blame for Scott’s tots or some other office disaster 😂
-
K8podstaWhere’s Chris?Long time listener, first time reviewer. I nearly gave it one star because Chris is missing!! Where has he gone? Krystal has been doing a great job fact checking, and that’s the problem. We need Chris to constantly forget it’s his job to fact check. Come back chris!

Caralovesthis22I’m Now An AddictI just happened to hear about this jewel of a podcast, The Alarmist, from another drug (podcast) of choice, Office Ladies. As soon as I heard about The Alarmist, I ran, not walked, to my phone, typed in my search bar and scrolled down through 391 episodes to start at the very beginning. I’m working my way through each episode, binging on 3-4 a day. The facts are fascinating, the guests are entertaining, and the show is cleverly written. I’m now telling everyone I know that loves history, or podcasts, or historical podcasts, to listen. My 15 year old daughter is now a fan. We may need an intervention. JK. But really, loving it.
-
Madisonm98LoveI found this podcast from Office Ladies recommending it. I have been binging from episode one and I am so happy that there are hundreds of episodes to go!
-
Ariel is annoyedAmazing show!Such a great show! Heard about it from Office Ladies and now I’m hooked. I was hooked from the very first episode when the guest said he would have told Molly Brown to sit down and shut up that they weren’t going back for Titanic survivors in the water. And he said he wasn’t proud of himself for it, but that honesty made me laugh hysterically, rewind and listen to him say it at least three more times, then forced my husband to listen to him say it. 😂 Fantastically hilarious show. And I get to learn some details about events where I’m only vaguely aware of what happened!
-
riskybiznusDramatic readings of google search resultsWhen I first discovered this podcast, I was hooked! Smart people discussing interesting events from a unique perspective: which variable, if removed, would cause the event to cease happening? Fascinating. But unfortunately, I’m not super interested in hearing people read online articles aloud. And that has become about 60% (often more) of the podcast. I live for the episodes where the hosts and guests show up already educated, and speak from their own knowledge and perspective. I love hearing them debate and calculate which occurrences had the greatest impact. Lately, you only get about 5 minutes of that. The rest is regurgitated information. When someone brings up an interesting point, it’s interrupted with an article reading. So three stars for what used to be my favorite podcast, and what I hope might return!
