Faithless Brewing MTG: Modern and Pioneer for the Spike Rogue

Hobbies #114

A Magic: the Gathering podcast for the spike rogue. Each week, we brew new decks in Modern and Pioneer. We put our creations to the test and share our findings on the air: what worked, what didn’t, and what can be improved for next time. Are you sick of going 0-5? We can help you go 3-2, in style! Created by Dan Schriever (@CavedanMTG), David Robertson (resident brew master), and Damon Alexander (brewer emeritus), and featuring Zach Ryl (@Manacymbal) & Emi Sagasti (@MordeToLight). Whether you’re a jank brewer, Day 2 warrior, FNM hero, or kitchen table end boss, our goal is to inspire your next great Magic deck. Take the Oath of Brewers and join our Discord community at patreon.com/faithlessbrewing, and visit our homepage FaithlessBrewing.com for all of our latest decklists.

    Top listens each week
I really enjoy the show. The banter between the hosts is entertaining. They really know their formats. I aspire to be the kind of brewer that these guys are. Thank you for the content each week!

    Great show, bad mic quality
Please invest in better microphones! Either your voices are over-modulated or it sounds like you’re recording in a tin can!

    Top tier Magic Podcast
This is one of the best Magic podcasts out there right now. I look forward to each episode and can’t wait to see what they come up with each week!

    Stacks on stacks
Love the show. The expansion of hosts have added different perspectives and insight. Each and every host brings a different focus that really helps me see the important differences in Modern and Pioneer! If you’re interested in learning about upcoming decks to break the meta or your ticket budget, this is the show for you! See you in the queues!

    Illiterate
If you’re going to host a podcast and make your voice heard, please learn to read. The mispronunciation of simple words on cards is so constant and egregious that I couldn’t keep listening.

    Best podcast ever
I can’t believe I found you all. This is the best podcast ever. I love the rotating cast, it really helps me stay interested. They talk about my favorite formats and they brew an unhealthy amount of decks (like me)! Keep it up you all and stay hyped for Capenna!

    Best constructed content around
These guys are awesome. For those of us who keep up with modern and pioneer, and like to brew niche jank, these guys have some awesome insight. I feel that I’ve grown as a Magic player since I started listening to them. I am so grateful for their content that I signed up for their Patreon, and the discord is full of like-minded brewers as well. Definitely a podcast worth a listen if you’re into constructed formats like modern and Pioneer.

    Hot Take
This show is the best Magic content available. That’s hyperbolic, so let me explain: the people on this show are very talented and insightful, plumbing the depths of Pioneer and Modern to find the gems and bring them to the surface, and doing so in a polished, hilarious way that is just good plain fun to listen to. If that wasn’t enough, the intro music makes you want to dance! As a player and lover of this game for close to two decades, and someone who has sampled the breadth of Magic podcasts available out there, I cannot recommend this one enough. Long live the Faithless Crew!

    Mandatory listening.
This podcast has helped broaden my understanding of modern and pioneer, as well as helped me retain interest in Magic throughout the pandemic. I can’t express enough how this podcast has helped me stay sane during the pandemic and online school. It has also helped me with my play style and decision making skills while playing. It has been a rough year, and you guys have helped me through it. Thank you. P.S. : Just an idea, but what about Orcish Lumberjack in MH2?

    Great MTG talk
This is the modern talk I’ve been looking for. Every week a new singleton tested in blue moon!

Required Listening For All Aspiring Brewers
I played a couple of the guys from The Dive Down at my LGS in the Before Times, found out they had a Modern pod and got hooked. Found out about Faithless Brewing on their Niv-Mizzet crossover episode, and now it’s my favorite. The hosts are some brilliant, spiky mages that bring up lines I would have never considered, and report their findings on exciting brews. I hope they keep up the great work and keep saving me hundreds of tix.

    Niv forever
Love the cast since day 1. Amazing group that’s always looking at the best of brewing potential. They are the reason I foiled our Niv in modern and pioneer. If your trying to brew or like going off the beaten path, this is the group to listen to.

A well made Podcast with balanced hosts
This podcast has 3 main hosts, and each have their strengths and weaknesses when played off each other. This leads to a healthy and fun podcast where nothing needs to be changed. They could potentially bring back a guest that they had on the podcast really early on to see if that stirs the pot or anything, maybe adds some devotion to the fanbase, but otherwise they are all fun and balanced. Also they pretty much invented Modern Niv-Mizzet, which as a solely Modern Jund player, I have an abysmal win rate against. So I’m slightly peeved at that. Why not make a deck that folds to turn 1 discard? Thanks team.

    My bridge into older formats
I sold out of paper modern after I became a dad. While the amount of time I have has lessened, my love for semi-competitive jank has only grown. All due to Faithless Brewing. The guys do an excellent job of helping me feel a part of something I love even though I haven’t had enough time to play over the last year. I would highly recommend this podcast. Their endorsement of Manatraders makes me think playing online might be a new path forward 👍

To brew or not to brew... is that really a question?
This is your home for Modern and Pioneer brewing. Listen to these guys put their hard earned tix into the MTGO slot machine and hear their findings weekly. You don’t want more than one bozo on a podcast and this podcast has zero! It’s a crazy world out there, but when the going gets tough, the tough get brewing.

Better than the salty tears of enemies.
This podcast is so sweet. They provide fantastic information about modern and try to push the format forward (sometimes sideways), rather than just discuss the S tier decks. Basically, this is the podcast equivalent of beating a Tron player and collecting their salty tears to season your convention hall chicken fingers.

    Fun Podcast
I recently finished a road trip basically across the entire US, and without you guys and some others I think I would have gone crazy, haha. Thanks for the quality content!

    The Greatest Podacst
The single best brewing podcast, the hosts all are very intelligent things to say, and very interesting decks. They are all great players and brewers and have results to show for it.

    So good!
This podcast is the best! If you love brewing decks it doesn’t get any better than this. This is seriously the next level of deck creation. Highly entertaining and super thoughtful. Thanks for making this! Please keep it up!

    Keep it up
I have been listening since about week 3, and I have been hooked since. Every week the brewing train rolls into the station, and every week I find new ways to see my favorite formats. I have found new cards to explore, learned more about what it takes to compete, and what I can do to keep my pet cards in the lgs rotation. You guys make me want to play more and more every week. Keep up the good work!
  • HitchyFlav
Great content for the aspiring brewer
I learn a ton from every show. Ideas of how to get the best out of card choices, discussing cards I’ve never heard of, and sharing details of the meta game as it shifts. They also play the brews in the name of science and have success. Recommend highly for the Bering enthusiast.
  • Moonbraid
    Creative, Fun, Competitive
A creative group of 3 men working together to take down the Meta of both Modern Magic and Pioneer. Each week they pick a single card to build around and attempt to compete on MTGO tournaments. They do well and give a very positive spin to competitive magic. If you’re looking for something fun and new, do yourself a favor and give them a try!
  • MStep305
    Best magic podcast
I listen to all the major magic podcasts and this is by far the best. Each episode, the hosts actually come in with a purpose, interesting insights, and fun banter. Nearly every other mtg podcast is an unorganized mess with people talking over each other and no direction. This show will make you a better magic player as you stay up to date on the competitive scene as well as develop a fundamental understanding of what makes cards tick.
  • allfordelilah
    My fave
Love these guys! They’ve literally skyrocketed my laughably bad knowledge of Modern and Pioneer. The decks they play aren’t really my style, as I mostly enjoy turning things sideways, but if you’re allergic to netdecking then THIS PODCAST IS FOR YOU! Even if you’re a modern player who can’t get around to playing enough, you’ll learn a lot in one listen to this podcast.
  • metsophi
    My fav magic podcast!
If you like sweet brews, listen!
  • Konekab
    Highly entertaining and informative
Refreshing to see a MtG podcast that focuses on brewing but with a competitive bent. Well produced, easy to listen to and always look forward to new episodes.
  • m1lous
    Great show!
    Love it. Highly recommend!

    Excellent show
Just wanted to take the time to write a quick review; been playing Magic since FRF, mostly Modern in that time, and this show has helped tap into my interest in brewing up new strategies. As a midrange lover, this show helps give me perspective.
  • JoshElyCFP
    Love It
I love brewing in Modern and Pioneer and always eager to hear your ideas. Keep up the good work! Show idea: the definitive take on Pioneer Elves! Every format has an elf list. Let’s get Pioneer one!
  • nazan yar
    Pioneer vs modern
Love the podcast, but oddly I don’t even play modern. It’s great to hear about general brewing strategies for modern using new cards, and I think about how they may apply to other formats, so I personally would love to bear some pioneer talk.
  • MTG LORD
    NO DAN
Please someone take Dan’s mike away. Not only does he talk super creepy and take random breaks, but his mic is clipping and there’s too much bass in his voice that he seems to force tonally. He should stick to content creation, some people should not be podcast personalities - Dan is too awkward. He sounds like he’s not trying to wake up his roomate. Open up your full voice and stop speaking from the bottom of your throat you cringey fedora boy.

    Love this podcast
Keep up the great work, you faithless brewers!

    Brewers Paradise
The 3 disinct personalities each contribute important elements of card and deck assessment. This is a fun an informative podcast to listen to, not the boring and drab evaluation of the current meta that so many podcasts fall into.
  • Lanny Huang
    A gem
The podcast is well organized with creative ideas and thoughtful analysis. These guys might not be the biggest magic celebs but this content is unlike anything else out there.
  • Chrisbacheen
    Solid podcast
If the name buds and brews isn't taken you guys should do that.

Quickly becoming my favorite magic podcast
I stumbled upon this podcast on reddit, and it brings me back to brewing with my roommates late on Friday nights. The format of the show is great and I love that you guys go over the last weeks deck at the start of each episode. Talking through different shells and trying to brew new decks as opposed to just the sweet meta tech that gets discussed on other modern podcasts is refreshing. Keep up the great
