Odyssey: The Podcast is a serialized telling in contemporary language, of Homer’s Odyssey. Over twenty-three hours, master storyteller Jeff Wright delivers a fast-paced, literate, and addictive performance. Each episode features a continuation of the story arc, followed by engaging commentary on the social, cultural and political contexts helpful to maximizing your fun with Homer’s story. Odyssey: The Podcast works brilliantly as a free-standing story, or as a sequel to Trojan War: The Podcast.

    Unexpected entertainment
I decided to give this podcast a try since I was a fan of the previous one on the Trojan War. I figured this sequel might be missing a lot of that intensity, but that was not the case. I was not really confused as everything was very well explained, and I might actually be more into this series more than the previous one! As I write this, I am almost done but did not finish. Regardless of the outcome I have been very much entertained.

    Storytelling At Its Worst
I had listened to his Trojan War podcast and it was pretty good. Figured this one would be on par. But No, this one is so hamstrung by his poor storytelling choices that it makes it unlistenable. First, he chose to “quote” Odysseus with a stupid sounding voice like a cheesy preacher would use to mock “Science”. But then the voice devolves into what sounds like a caveman voice or some dolt, when Odysseus was supposed to be one of the smartest people in all of Greece. It’s disingenuous and childish and detracts from the story. By the second episode I couldn’t take it anymore and just deleted it.

    Thanks for the stories!
This is my short note to accompany my donation. God in heaven, who laughs at the polytheistic epics, has blessed me greatly, so I donated the highest amount. I, newly enamored with the polytheistic epics, have laughed at your many creative, thoughtful, and contextual analyses of these stories. Plus, it helps me to develop discussion questions as I lead my homeschooled senior through stories I’m reading for the first time.

A Splendid Retelling of an Ancient Tale
I had many enjoyable hours listening to Jeff Wright’s The Trojan War podcast, and I followed up immediately with his version of the Odyssey. Over the past months I’ve been entertained, educated, moved, and inspired by these ancient stories brought to life in a vivid, contemporary way. Thank you, Jeff!

    Once Again, Jeff is Amazing
Listening to the Odyssey directly after Jeff’s Trojan War: the Podcast is the best way to enjoy this timeless classic. Jeff does it again! A wonderful, epic retelling by the best singer around.

    Fun, easy, helpful
In 7th grade I read parts of the Odyssey (with my teacher helping the class to understand it and make it fun) and watched a play of it, I remember enjoying it but don’t remember many details. 11th grade we read and discussed the Odyssey and I remember it being very difficult and I didn’t understand much. My first year of university we read the Odyssey again, and while I still found the actual reading very difficult, the professors discussion on it and everything from that era, and explaining many of the “hidden” parts of the epic, made it enjoyable. A few weeks ago I was talking about how cool it would be if there was a podcast explaining the odyssey to make it more interesting and enjoyable to young people (or any people) and then I found this podcast which is even better because it’s a story that’s easy to listen to! Long story short, I think this podcast is amazing and I wish I had it in high school and college to help me understand the reading. I’ve loved listening to it and re-learning about the odyssey.

    Very engaging
This podcast is fun and also educational. I was sad when I got to the end because I did not want the story to stop. This podcast is worth your time.

    Fantastic
Thank you Jeff for your excellent and engaging storytelling. I loved both this and your Trojan War podcast!

Jeff do you realize you are a Telemachus.
Whimpus Canadianus Appolgeticus. Sacrifice your one remaining testicle to her, and pray she gives you a compete set in return. You’re not doing these Millennials any favors Jeff, because Poseidon will return, and how will they survive when the typhoons of reality send them on an their own painful Odyssey? . Reality won’t change because your offended by it. A historian should know better. Could have been a great podcast, but 2/5 is being generous at this point.

    Freakin knockout!
If you’ve even a modicum of curiosity in Greek mythology, you will be enthralled with it 15-20 min into the first episode. It is that good. And this guy’s story telling is second to none. A must listen!

Great story, and a perfect storyteller!
I came here from “Trojan War: The Podcast”. Jeff kept me coming back for more and more. He definitely knows how to tell a story. He can incite a whole range of emotions with just a few words. There were several points in this podcast I started to cry, but had to hold back due to being surrounded by women at work. I eagerly await Jeff’s next podcast. This was the very first podcast I decided to donate to a podcast. Correction; ‘Tossed a few copper in his storytellers cup’. I urge you to do the same.

Thrilling and engaging from beginning to end
As a veteran listener of Jeff's earlier podcast series on the Trojan War, I thought it would be tough to rise to its level, but I think he surpassed it. This one had me entranced from beginning to end, and I found the post-story commentaries to be incredibly insightful. Some of them, such as the mock trial of Odysseus about halfway through the series, were almost epic entertainment in their own right. Jeff's ability to set a stage and populate it with powerful characterizations was there thoughout the entire podcast. Brilliant work!

    Amazing
Jeff has become one of my favorite storytellers and podcasters, joining the ranks of Dan Carlin and Danielle Bolleli. The way he weaves together his narrative is witty, engaging, and perfectly paced. He’s making fans all over, from Canada to Hawaii!

    glad to see him back
The podcaster is a professional storyteller, and he takes his subject to a new level. You have probably listened to a hundred bright and interesting people stumble through their presentation on a podcast. Jeff is simply great. A perfect delivery, well timed. And well researched as well. He knows his Homer backwards and forwards. And if you haven't heard the Trojan War Podcast you should subscribe to it , too

    Long awaited sequel
I am so excited to listen to Jeff Wright’s telling of the Odyssey. His Trojan War podcast was a thrill ride- and made riding in LA traffic thrilling. I’m sure the Odyssey will be equally great.

    Long awaited release!
If you have not heard Jeff Wright's Trojan War, the Podcast, go get it, listen to it, learn all about it, then come badk here and follow up with the Odyssey! Wright makes the most important stories every told accessible, entertaining, funny (where appropriate) and highly educational. You will know more about these stories than any student who read them in high school or even college. I did. Have fun.

    Most Comprehensive Podcast Ever
Jeff Wright is a master storyteller whose work reflects what must be literally hundreds of hours of topic research. He brings these characters to life in a very human way, while sacrificing none of Homer’s rendering of these people who lived 22 centuries ago.
