    It’s Perfect
I’ve been searching for a good movie podcast for a long time, so I feel qualified to say that this is the best one. Not only does every person bring unique, intelligent perspectives, but they all just seem genuinely happy to be able to talk about movies with their friends. Also, any time Tricia opens her mouth, you know you’re going to get a nugget of gold.

    Love from Guatemala
I love Michael and the team’s YouTube channel. It’s better than film school. As is this podcast. I highly recommend it to anybody who loves movies and wants to learn to write.

    I love this podcast
Love Michael, ever since he started his YouTube channel. It’s true, anything this man touches he can turn to gold.

    Balanced like a fine wine.
I listen to lots of film podcast and this one is a beautiful kaleidoscopic of movie nerds. They are all very well spoken and know how to argue constructively. One overlooked thing about podcasts is the listenability. When you have a show that includes multiple people speaking, it can be hard to keep up with the conversation because you were not physically in the room. With these guys though, they have an amazing cadence with each other. There is balance that goes through every episode. The convo doesn’t get stale, no small points are getting beat like a dead horse. It feels almost rehearsed, in a good way. Plus they have great mics so it’s very easy to listen to back to back episodes on a road trip. Thank you BTS

    Finally!
The search is over. I’ve finally found the movie podcast that does what I’ve always wanted a movie podcast to do and then some. 5 stars!!!

Insight into more than just “I liked it”
This podcast provides so much more than just a cursory appraisal of film/movies. Besides having a very diverse group of experience, the episodes have a lot of thought provoking dialogue that is sorely lacking from others of its ilk. Not a simple review but more of an in depth discussion of how and why what is presented on screen. As a companion to the YouTube channel, it’s great, but LFtS stands on its own as well.

Had to stop due to riding the volume levels all the time
Tricia does not have a cadence appropriate for radio or podcasts. Her energy level is at an 11 compared to everyone else’s relative tranquility. Some advice: listen to a few hours of Radiolab and try to emulate a soft, calm style of speaking. The shrillness is like daggers in my ears.

    Loooooove!!
I love this podcast so much! It’s literally all I listen to! Would you guys be able to do an episode on Frances Ha?

Constructive critique: More focus on writing
I wish the team would stay more laser-focused on the actual writing: some episodes of the podcast barely cover the script. Thousands of podcast can (and do) talk about Heath Ledger's acting choices in The Dark Knight. I've yet to hear a podcast debate the pros & cons of narratively downshifting from the potential deaths of hundreds of people on a ferry to the potential death of a single boy. I believe focusing more on the writing could improve a very good podcast to a great one.

They have shown me the deep meaning of film
These guys have truly shown me the true genius that is hidden behind the mask of the visual media that is film. And while I’ve always loved movies before, these guys have shown me why some of my favorite tv shows, video games, and of course movies. I feel like I can feel at comfort with my love of movies whenever I listen to these guys. Keep on doing the good work guys and I will always listen to whatever you have to say about movies.

    My favorite film podcast!
I recently discovered “Beyond the Screenplay”, after being a long time fan of the YouTube channel. This podcast is so enjoyable to listen to and has a great balance between structured commentary and spontaneous conversation. If you’re looking for a fun but insightful podcast, this is the one for you!

    Glad I Found This
As a film buff, this is a very fun podcast. I wasn’t sure if I could listen to a whole hour podcast on one film, and I was (gladly) proven wrong. The first episode I listened to was Groundhog Day and I’m so glad Tricia brought that movie to the table. The love of film is on display from all the panelists, and they bring their own unique perspectives to the analysis. And on a practical note, it made me sit down and watch Groundhog Day with my 14 year old son for the first time (his, not mine) and he loved it. Great podcast! Find the films you love and start there.

    Ily Tricia
Perfect podcast to listen to while running errands. Tricia your voice is a little too high pitched for me, so sometimes it’s a bit uncomfortable, but man do you make such good points! You go girl. Not gonna lie I’m not 100% sure that’s how you spell your name though.
  • john ross hanna
    Great but frustrating
The boys are way too prissy and subjective. Tricia clearly loves/comprehends the subject matters.

Unique perspectives, diverse voices. Love it!
  • thank you for your candor
    Awesome first impression
First 4 minutes of episode 1 are as follows. This is a film by Edgar Wright. I didn’t see it until yesterday. I’ve never seen any of his other movies. Except Hot Fuzz which someone forced me to watch because I love action movies, and I was surprised it was a horror movie. Then the other host responds... ‘is it? I only saw some of it’ when they talk about the gore and say ‘this is an Edgar Wright movie apparently this is what to expect’ I had to turn it off. Why would I listen to these people talk when they clearly have no real familiarity with this film or any of the filmmaker’s other films? You’d learn more about the screenplay of Shaun of the Dead by watching it on mute.

    One of my favorites
I listen to many many many film/screenwriting podcasts and this is by far one of my favorites. Very unique and diverse perspectives, as well as just interesting ways of discussing films/screenplays.

    Beyond the Screenplay
As an aspiring screenwriter/director this podcast has become invaluable for me. I’m always looking forward to the next episode and the discussions always open up a new way of thinking about a movie for me even more than their videos (which are also just as amazing). Can’t recommend it enough if you’re looking to go into the film industry, especially screenwriting!

    Great Storytelling Analysis
I sought this podcast out after watching the YouTube channel. All four podcasters have a background in film writing or editing and share great chemistry when discussing each film. They frequently add insightful trivia or deeper analysis/meaning of the film’s important scenes or characters and reference and name screenwriting and film books that I have since gotten myself. Although not as analytical as Michael's YouTube channel, these group discussions have helped shape what I consider good writing and character development in film and have inspired a more inclusive language when discussing movies with friends and family. Only criticism is that I wish that there were more episodes, so looking forward to the team making more.

    Decent!
Would’ve been more stars but for their interview with the buffoon Patrick (H[ack]) Willems and their love for The Clod Rianjohnson. Still, don’t let that deter you!
  • HighFivers
    Great listen!
I’m a big movie buff and always have a great time listening to this podcast. The crew shares their perspectives in a way that both the common person as well as those more entrenched with the film industry are sure to enjoy!

    All time favorite podcast
BTS is always exceptionally insightful and incredibly fun and entertaining. I always learn something new, even on repeat listens. Each host is incredibly knowledgeable but has their own unique opinions and insights.

    Great
Sometimes Youtubers do podcast and it doesn’t work which is fine because they still make great videos but this guy happens to be great at both. I would argue that he is better at this than the videos but that’s not a bad thing. He’s just that good.

    Deep dives with good people
One of my favorite things to do in college was to go see a good movie, and then discuss and dissect it for hours with my friends afterwards. This feels exactly like that, but with people far smarter and more informed than me. Give it a listen.

Truly amazing podcast for anyone interested in writing/psychology
Such a fun and eye opening podcast. There’s not a single episode I haven’t loved yet and they’re obviously deep friendship resonates out in the show and makes it such a joy to listen to. As a therapist, I also really love how deeply they go into the psychology of movies.

    It’s great!
If you love the show, you’ll love the podcast! Everyone’s insight is really good and learning about their process for making the show is really fun to hear about. I kind of wish I didn’t find out about it so early so I could binge more episodes, but I love it anyway! Keep up the great work!

    Movie (Industry) Lover’s Podcast
What a great companion podcast to your YouTube channel. This is a great show for anyone who loves their favorite movies dissected, as well as an excellent peek into behind the scenes filmmaking and screenwriting. The main cast work well off each other and have varied perspectives, which only strengthens the conversations that are being had. Keep up the great work! I’ll always be intrigued to see what you are currently watching as well as any recommendations you have at the end of each episode.

    Thoughts on Beyond The Screenplay
First, I want to tell you how I found Michael’s YouTube channel. I was drifting through the vast collection of YouTube videos when I found his analysis of Arrival, which was written by Eric Heisserer. It was a revelation. How he breaks down and explains to us the deeper meaning and the interesting production of Arrival was something I had never experienced before. Soon after that I became a subscriber. Fast forward a year, he produces a new video analysing Searching when at the start of the video he announces this podcast. I immediately jumped on Apple Podcasts and subscribed to the podcast. As of my writing this podcast is in its very early days. I hope it grows into something amazing. All the best!!

    Inspiring and Insightful
As a faithful subscriber of the YouTube channel, I was eager to hear more of what these guys had to say, and I was not disappointed.

    Love the Interviews
At the time of writing, there’s only three episodes and by far the best one is the episode on Searching. Hearing their process and thoughts is great for me as a developing screenwriter. Not as interested in breaking down other people’s screenplays for this length or hearing complaints about them as seen in the Shaun of the Dead episode. I’d rather just watch the Lessons from a Screenplay the YouTube series, which is incredible and has no complaining. I think this podcast has a bright future.
