    Duckie podcast!
I started listening to a few garden podcasts on my drive to work and while working in the green house. I have logged many episodes of You bet your garden. I have picked up so many useful tidbits from Mike along with some laugh out loud moments! He has quickly become my favorite podcaster the problem is waiting for a new episode! Lots of love to all make this podcast happen! 🌻

Healing the ecosystem pod by pod
A really in-depth garden podcast full of vast knowledge and research. Many entertaining callers and questions. I’m always inspired by the discussion and advice on how to care for helpful insects, worms, and creatures. There’s a lot of plant love here and it feels good to relax and listen.

    Insufferable!
It’s too bad we can’t get the information contained in this show without his delivery. Although it’s solid advice, he just can’t seem to wait to prove all he knows, simultaneously insulting the callers…..and the listeners. …..and then there’s the fluff…..it sounds like someone has given an 8year old an acoustic guitar and aired the recordings to kill time. If they cut out the ‘music’, the show would be half the length. I understand you need segue music, but not two minutes of it at every break. The bad FAR outweigh the good in this podcast. A much better option(and less insulting) is Gardeners Question Time from the BBC.

    Nothing compares!!
Nothing compares to this informative and funny pod, beaming with tons of anecdotes and useful advice. I’ve met Mike in person and he’s as nice as he sounds. Thanks for all you help us with, Mike!! You’re truly a gardeners gem.

Felt bad for the Roman who was told she could only ask one question

    Still love your show
Listened to todays podcast on raised beds and Hügelkultur And you had answered a woman’s question regarding creeping thyme. You had said that you thought it grew pretty tall, like a foot tall and from my experience, it never grew more than an inch. In the spring it would be covered with these lovely fuchsia flowers. The only problem I had and how I lost my 5‘ x 8‘ carpet of it, was that it doesn’t tolerate dogs, namely dog urine, and of course once one dog goes there, the other one will go there and till they eventually killed it.

    Wealth of garden knowledge
Mike has a wealth of garden knowledge & the caller questions are good ones. I enjoy that the song segments he features vary. After trying multiple garden podcasts, his is one of my favorites. My only pet peeve is when callers ask how he is doing and replies Just Duckyyyy.

    What an idiot!
I’ve come across so many episodes lately that he’s suggesting such stupid things! Take cuttings of your roses, does he tell the caller that the rose could be grafter and it’s not going to make it? NOPE! Mentions that jumping worms arnt that big of a deal in a past episode…they are destroying forests! Invasive bareberry, just learn to live with it. How about no! Mike come on! What’s your problem!? Would not recommend listening to this guy!

    Combative Host.
Mike is seems combative and demeaning.ugh! I couldn’t even get through one episode. Awful music interludes, to make you think there are enough callers to fill the time. Not altogether pollinator friendly……recommended BT. I would not recommend.

Fun podcast with always great info!
Mike is timeless and his experience always brings new relevant info and news to gardening. He’s a gardening ninja, a Howard Cosell on phone calls, and a champion for problem solving. I listen for the entertainment yet somehow I am now an expert among my peers with gardening. I wish school taught us this way. Thank you Mike!!

    Love of gardening
Listening to this program reminds me of my love of gardening. Mike’s vocal quality and personality reminds me of the late and great, click and clack, the Clackett brothers from Car Talk. Wish I had the knowledge of gardening Mike has.

    Long time listener
Mike just doesn’t seem to want to be doing the show anymore.

    What a rude host
I gave this podcast a fair try and although I am sure the content advise is sound. The podcast host is really mean and manages to insult every caller and their questions. There are better podcasts out there for gardening folks that are not mean spirited.

This show got me into gardening.
Saturday mornings making pancakes and listening to Mike is what started the weekend for me for more than ten years. Without his show I wouldn’t have discovered my love for gardening.

    Classic Call In Format Show
Mike is old school, knowledgeable and funny. Some of the poor ratings here are people that take him too seriously. Excellent advice is given here and he keeps the environment in mind by using organic methods that buck conventional wisdom. You will learn sooooo much listening to these shows. I’ve gone on to spread the gospel to friends and family who ask me how I maintain such a good garden. All thanks to this show.

    Pass on this...
Listened to the recent “spring bulbs” episode. The host talks too much about himself and his experiences, instead of focusing on the caller questions. Spewing random life stories and jeopardy-worthy information.
  • eljemo
    You Rock Mike!
Great show! Always makes me laugh while learning more about organic gardening. Thanks to you I had the best year yet and had the biggest, healthiest bell peppers of my gardening lifetime! I’m looking forward to learning more from you Mike. You are a treasure of info for organic gardeners everywhere. Ducky is lucky to share the studio with you!

    Not delivering on topic
I’ve tried 3x to listen to this podcast and it never pays off. 99% random call-in Q & A and barely any time spent on the episode topic, which is always near the end. Hard pass.

He lost me when he quoted a quack
Mike has a few good suggestions but his ego and tone are annoying after awhile. He lost me when he quoted quack Andrew Wylie and in the same episode encouraged someone to keep using copper fungicide without warning if the dangers of copper buildup in soil. I question Mike’s scientific grounding.
  • LNGALLERY1
    Poorly organized
Wish this show was a better organized. He answers random questions most of show then at very end quickly reads off some prepared remarks about the “tease” subject in 5 minutes without any real discussion. Imagine a class organized this way. Prefer to have him pick a topic and spend a fair amount of time discussing it with a related question or two at end. We like Mike but you can do better, cat.

Been listening to on radio for years, so happy Mike has podcast. Like that he isn’t condescending, gives good advice for all levels and that he promotes organic gardening. I’m trying to keep my garden a safe happy place for pollinators & wildlife...

Humble , likeable & SO informative
Great info delivered by a host who is like an old friend..and, as a now far away Philly girl , his voice makes me smile! I am a serious Gardner & I always leArn something new & useful!

    Mike knows
I just whacked my 10th spotted lantern fly from a tree in my yard, and I can’t reach the ones that have climbed up higher. What’s the solution, I wondered. Who would know? Who would advise something other than spraying a fire hose of poison? It made me miss MM’s YBYG again. Then I wondered if he had a podcast and boy oh boy he does! I’m so happy!

    A Longtime Favorite
I’ve enjoyed Mike McGrath for most of my adult life, including when he worked at Rosales and when he wrote for Southern Living magazine. Now I’m delighted that he produces his show as a podcast so I can still enjoy him, no matter how remote my homes are.
  • JuliaPancakes
    Can’t get enough!
I love this podcast because of Mike McGrath’s deep knowledge and charm! I discovered YBYG about 5 years ago when I moved from the West Coast to Pennsylvania, and Mike taught me all about gardening. I went back and listened to all his old episodes over one summer, and now I listen every week! YBYG is my favorite radio show. When I have time, I watch the video version too. Thank you, Mike!

I love listening to this podcast while laying kiddo down for a nap. She has since become an avid listener too. Such a wealth of knowledge and easy gardens musts for an intermediate gardener such as myself. Love the intro especially!

    I can’t imagine a better gardening show
I listened to Mike on my local radio station for years before I was even a garner just because his knowledge on the topic is absolutely fascinating. Now that his show is in podcast form and I do garden, his podcast is essential.

    A masterclass in organic gardening
This show is about as good as it gets in gardening. Not only is it a call in show where other gardeners call I with problems similar to yours, but Mike (host) also puts together an informative piece to close out each show where he goes in depth on that weeks focus. I absolutely love this show and love Mike for doing it!

    My go-to for gardening
I am also happy to find out that Mike is still doing this show! I was so bummed when I thought it was done for good. I love listening to this snow while I’m doing random things around the house. My go-to resource when I need an official answer on something. Love Mike’s personality and interaction with the callers. Thanks Mike!

    Terrific!
What a great combination of humor and gardening know-how! I can’t recommend it enough.

So glad I found this in its new home!
I love this podcast, I was very bummed when the WHYY podcast stopped updating. I just figured he was retiring or stopped for some other reason. So happy to find it on a new station! This is my absolute favorite gardening podcast and I’d be a little bit lost without it.

    Great Show
By far the best gardening podcast available, gets right to the point and very informative... however the podcast sound quality has been poor since the switch to new station in Bethlehem, PA.
