Dave I love you but I hate how you pronounced Chani 😭😂 but I give your dune review a 9/10

Great! Unless you’ve read the book.
Robots may not dream of electric sheep, but I still get nightmares of AJ saying “…in the movie…” 5 stars for Dave and his reports, but don’t listen to episodes about books you love if you think comedians making fun of it and interrupting it would make you angry.

The bessssst podcast. They’re SO entertaining and actually help with book reports and stuff.

Always looking forward to the newest episode
As someone who’s mind often wonders when reading books, Dave’s condensed storytelling is a wonderful way to experience/understand works I know I’d never have the resolve to finish myself. Also, the wide variety of subjects means you get to enjoy stories outside of the genres you may normally gravitate towards.

#88 Invisible Man, loved It & research
Love when there is a live audience and your reaction and your guests reactions to them. As always a great show. Liked that you listened to an English narrator to figure out the pronunciation of “Iping”. And as always Matt’s reaction an idea for “double bluff” for the book title. Now for the minimal research, via Wikipedia: “Iping is a village in the Chichester district of West Sussex, England. It lies within the civil parish of Stephan with Iping, just off the A272 road 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Midhurst. The village lies on the River Rother.” It is about 54 miles (87 km) southwest of London.

    books forever!
I love Book Cheat, it’s one of the most soothing and comforting podcasts to me. Dave has an amazing ability to weave his guests jokes into the book he’s talking about.

    Bring back the chook!
This is one of my favorite podcasts! Dave has a great way of contextualizing classics and describing each moment to make it come to life. Really hope he returns soon and releases a new podcast soon! Long live the book chook

So fun and helped me read again
This podcast is so funny. As I listen, it’s on a break so I really miss it. I know Dave from Do Go On, his other podcast with Matt and Jess. Book Cheats is so fun and honestly helps me see some themes in these books that I may not have noticed at first reading. Dave is also funny AND informative. His guests are always great. Sometimes the books can be heavy, but Dave and guests have a lot of empathy, while being hilarious. Dave does a great job contextualizing the stories so you understand the person who wrote it and the time they were living. He does his best to explain things that stick out as strange, especially with older books. All in all, great listen. I’m actually listening to them all a second time around.

    Inspires me to read!
Dave may be reading the books for me, but he does such a good job it makes me want to experience them myself. Absolutely love it!

One of the Best Podcasts Ever
Great podcast about classic books, but extremely funny and interesting. Best episode is #65 about Pride and Prejudice with his partner Gabriella White. She is so charming and funny, and they are a wonderful couple. Dave’s synopses are well done and his guests are usually comedians and great fun. I love Australian humor and enthusiasm, you will love this podcast!

    Usually Great
Fantastic spin-off from Do Go On. Fun guests and great retellings from Dave that really paint a full picture of the books or poems he’s reading. Highly recommended even if you have read the books. Only episode that has a not been good is the Earnest episode where Mish and Zachary are complete arrogant snobs about theater and the theater going experience. They tear others down while circle-jerking each other. Please Dave, do not have them on ever again.
  • Elieisawriter
    Fun and informative
So listening to the podcast you hear about books and basically learn the whole plot line, which is helpful if you want to look smart or whatever:) But even if you just listen to the pod for fun or to relax it’s great because the conversation is so kind and fun and the discussion of the books works really well to just listen to the story. I’ve been listening to episodes of books I’ve already read and it’s so fun to be able to reread the book in the space of an hour! I completely recommend this pod in case that wasn’t already clear and I will be sure to rate it 5 stars with all my other accounts! (That was a joke. I’m kidding. Listen to the podcast though it’s a lot of fun.)

Must be great for high schoolers!
I’m long past high school, but this would have been a major help getting through the test for a book! Really great for adults who would like a refresher or always wanted to tackle a classic but haven’t quite gotten there.

Love to Read, but have no Time?
Book Cheat is a great listen if you have a bucket list of classics that you have always wanted to read but have never really had a chance. Dave also finds obscure classics from diverse authors with eclectic voices, so every episode is a good listen.

    It’s about books
It’s been years since I’ve had to write a book report, but if I had to write one tomorrow, I’d transcribe the latest ep of this pod and turn that in. For sure A+ return I think.

    Meh
Listened to the ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ episode. Could’ve read the 180 page book faster than the episode. Two guests who are comedians could not say anything that made me chuckle but giggled a lot at themselves. Only one of the three had seen the classic movie. I couldn’t take it anymore when a guest compared the climatic scene when Holly throws the cat in a Spanish Harlem alley to the movie ‘Harry and the Hendersons’. Honestly!! I just can’t! Spend ten minutes more and watch the iconic Audrey Hepburn movie. Spend the time to be grateful that Hollywood has 50 yrs later come to their senses in casting the correct ethnicity for certain parts, while watching the graceful Audrey and her cat pull at your heartstrings.

    Love this
I feel like this podcast is amazing. Read Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. It’s an American classic and one of the funniest, laugh out loud absurd works.

    One of the Greats!
I really enjoy listening to book podcasts, and this is one of my favorites. I really appreciate that you ring in different people to discuss different books! Not only are each others interactions are charming & funny, but it’s great to here varying reactions & commentary! ❤️ Thanks for what you’re doing!

    #1 book chook
It’s quite clear Dave loves what he does and has fun with it. I don’t really like a lot of classic novels, so this podcast is perfect for me. Keep up the good work.

    Best Spinoff Ever!
How rare is it for a spinoff of any great piece of media to be as good as the original, or in this case even better! Dave Warneke; the best reporter from Do Go On (another fabulous podcast) breaking out to do book reports on classic literature, with a rotating roster of the funniest people from Melbourne’s comedy scene!? Yes please, and may I have a 2nd helping!
  • Kingkongtesla
    I like it
It’s good. Watch it. You don’t even need to like the book, because half of it is riffing off of a weird line. There is never a point where both the riffing and the book is disinteresting, so each episode is at worst entertaining 50% of the time, which rounds up to 100% of the time if you think about it. Thus you should watch it to be entertained 100% of the podcast!

Fun and enjoyable, laughs and learning
Dave really knows how to retell a story. This podcast is one of my favorites. I’ve read many of these books and plays and enjoy hearing Dave’s recaps and insight. You’ll never mixup characters because he makes certain to remind listeners who the characters are throughout the story. His guests are funny and his voice and inflection are perfect for storytelling. Thanks from Seattle!

Book Cheat and Prime Mates crossover!!!!!
Please have Matt on and cover Kurt Vonnegut’s “Welcome to Monkey House”. It’s quite fitting and a ridiculous story about a world without sex.

Entertaining & you might learn something
Great podcast, I’ve always loved the classics but haven’t read them all. The stories I do know are retold so well and so much fun! The guests are great too :)

For the people who have trouble getting into a novel
I have a hard time really getting into a novel, but Dave does a great job of summing up the book and making it sound appealing to me to read. I re-read of mice and men (very short) after hearing his review!

    Get Inspired!!!
If you’re like me you enjoy reading, but have probably fallen off in recent years. If you’re also like me then you probably listen to “Do Go On” and “The Weekly Planet” (or at least you SHOULD be listening to them). If that’s the case then you will love this podcast and be inspired to pick up that book you’ve been meaning to read for a long time.

    Absolutely Wonderful
Honestly, my favorite podcast right now. I love reading, and classics have always been my favorite. But due to mental health reasons, reading has become harder these past years, so it’s so wonderful to sit down and listen to Dave and guests talk about books. It’s like a wonderful comedy book club and I can’t get enough. Even when the show goes a bit loose, I adore it. Thanks so much Dave! I anxiously await the next episode.
