    You guys are the best!
My husband and I enjoy your podcast! You make us laugh. You make us think. We are always grabbing our Sibleys to reference the birds you talk about. Hope to join your puffin walk in August 2024. Thanks for all you do. Sincerely from North Idaho, David and Tammy Hoop

Great chemistry with the hosts, lots of information. The show notes might be my favorite part - loads of great info.

    A real birdy podcast
A really interesting listen when the hosts do their trip reports. I appreciate the detail and discussions of the real ins and outs, pitfalls and great areas to bird in the specific locations they visit. Knowing things like the availability of parking, restrooms or gift shops really helps me when I’m planning trips. My favorite episodes are the trip reports. I also really appreciate that they reliably drop episodes on a schedule. It’s really nice to have something to look forward to regularly and reliably.

Tried again, cringing again, preparation needed
I decided to try the podcast again today and was again appalled, this time by Hannah stumbling and mumbling over the death of Tom Johnson, a huge loss for many of us in the birding world. It was difficult to figure out the point of why she was addressing Tom’s death.; she barely remember to even say his name. As she said, Hannah did not know Tom, but many birders have written and spoken eloquent tributes to Tom and sent condolences to his family and friends without having known him. They took the time to do the research and write out the narrative, they took the time to prepare.

Great podcast for the everyday birder
I just discovered this podcast and I really enjoy it. I’ve been a serious birder since 2017 and it’s nice to have finally found a podcast that’s produced by like minded folks. Keep it up! Steve from Missouri

    Difficult to listen to …
This sounded like a good podcast to listen to. Unfortunately, I could not get through even one episode. Why does the word “like” have to be peppered throughout every conversation? It may be an eye opener to Hannah and Erik if they listened to one of their podcasts and counted how many times they say “like” where it clearly does not belong.

    This is the best podcast
Hannah and Erik are amazing people and this podcast is 100 percent worth the listen!

    Awful all about Hannah
I was linked to this podcast from a Corvallis Conference about birds website.. 23 minutes in and they haven’t gotten to topic…seems like Hannah is just wanting to talk about herself.. it is from 2020. Maybe it has improved since then.. I hope so.

    One of my favorite podcasts
I love this podcast! Hannah and Erik are informative and entertaining. They’re clearly very open to sharing their experience and knowledge. I got to meet them about a month ago and they are just as nice in person as they seem on their podcast. They also have an engaging back-and-forth banter that I appreciate. This is one podcast I find myself coming back to again and again.

    Conflicted
I discovered this podcast a while back and binged on older episodes. Clearly, I didn’t hate it. The hosts are laid back, likable and informative in a travelogue kind of way. The issue for me is that I associate birdwatching and all nature observation, really, with conservation and environmentalism. Through that lens, the carbon footprint of these two all in the name of adding to their lists is quite problematic. Flights all across the globe every time you turn around. With the sportsification or gamification of birding, I guess that’s what is popular these days but I would like to see some awareness that these actions are actively harming what we claim to love.

    New to birding
I went on my first birding trip a few weeks ago and I’m hooked! I’ve always loved birds and photography and luckily the two hobbies go well together. I spend a lot of time driving and was looking for a new podcast and listened to 3 or 4 birding ones, then I saw yours, in particular the episode with Krisztina Scheeff, and I thoroughly enjoyed her advice on choosing a camera or lens and I would like to hear her discuss gear and settings in more detail. I listened to 3 more episodes including the Amsterdam trip, you two are a lot of fun and you live in one of my favorite towns, Cannon Beach! I grew up near Portland and spent many summers on the Oregon coast, I now live 40 miles SE of Seattle and have lots of birding opportunities nearby. Thanks for what you do, I look forward to more episodes! Eric Bonney Lake Wa

    My Favorite Birding Podcast
So, why are you my favorite birding podcast? I have a couple other birding podcasts I listen to that are my second favorites, and quite a few that are third favorites with the rest competing for my time with all the other categories of podcasts that I subscribe to. 1. I always look forward to a new podcast from you. You’re never boring, and I usually do learn something. 2. I like hearing about your adventures and misadventures along with a dose of what’s happening in the birding world. 3. I like your relationship dynamics. You are kind to one another, and it’s fun to hear the back and forth. 4. I like that you guys just go for it. Whether it’s sharing info on your podcast or taking action in real life. You don’t wait around for someone else to do it or decide you’re not expert enough. 5. You guys are just real birders talking about all things birding. It works. Sorry to take so long to leave a review. I only listen en route to birding. :-) Vicki Rogerson, Florida

    My Kind of Podcast!
Today I finally finished listening to every episode of Hannah and Erik Go Birding. After listening to all of their adventures, hearing about their travels, and even snippets of their lives, I feel like I’ve met two friends without ever actually meeting them. The banter they weave into their podcast is often funny and brings a bit of comedy to the birding world. Through many episodes, I’ve learned more about birding, random tips and tricks, and pieces of ecology and bird biology I didn’t know before. Thanks Hannah and Erik for sharing your adventures. Keep up the great work!

    Down to earth birding podcast
I met Hannah and Erik at the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival in 2018, while on a trip they were guiding. At the end of the trip, I recall them saying “Hey, we have a podcast, you should all check it out!”. I thought, huh, did I just meet some famous birders? I didn’t think about it much more until getting back home, and having run out of podcasts to listen to on my commute, remembered that field trip. So, I listened to a couple episodes, and for some reason, it just didn’t click. Not sure if it was the unpolished aspect, or too much banter, but in any case, I unsubscribed and moved on. Fast forward to 2022, after my 2nd trip to the RGVBF, with a buddy who’s a fan of this podcast. I decided to give it another try, starting with the latest episodes. It took a bit, but started warming up to it. I’ve done a lot of state birding this year (Wisconsin), and enjoy listening to bird related podcasts while driving between locations, and have now listened to well over half of the back episodes. I came to realize the intent of this podcast isn’t to be like other, more formal birding podcasts, rather it’s to share real-life experiences and spread their enthusiasm about birds and birding. Hannah (with an H) and Erik (with a K) are passionate, down to earth birding folk, that are fun and educational to listen to. I particularly enjoy their recaps of visiting specific birding locations and festivals, it gives real world insight that reading brochures, websites, and online reviews can’t. My list of places to visit has grown substantially. They freely admit they’re not experts, but that doesn’t stop them from talking about something they find interesting! Sometimes there’s too much banter, but that’s also what makes it endearing. Sometimes they get off into the weeds, but eventually get back on track. They’re enthusiastic, and the podcast is genuine. Why, after all this, just 4 stars? I’m just a little stingy with my 5th star, that’s all, I’ve probably only given out a single 5 star podcast review. Maybe this will earn that extra star by the time I’m done catching up. :-) Hope to see you both at a festival some time, and thanks for sharing! -Paul from Wisconsin

    Great Podcast
I emailed Hannah and Eric a question about birding travel and they put together an awesome podcast that provided excellent information. Thanks very much. Good birding. Scott Erickson

    So welcoming!
I love how Hannah and Erik are so open and excited about sharing birding with everyone: newbies and experts alike. If everyone could be as enthusiastic and welcoming as them the birding world would be a better place. Thank you for setting such a great example.

    Dr Klem
Dr Klem presents a compelling reason to advocate for making our windows bird friendly. This was definitely your best podcast! Dr. Klem is a great advocate for birds. You are also for having him as your guest on the podcast.

    Podcast and Puffins
I just listened to your podcast number 17 and noted that you two are exceptional story tellers. Not only do you effectively share your birding adventures with me (while I carry on with whatever I’m doing), but at the same time you teach a great deal about other countries, regions and cultures. I thrive on learning new things and you make it fun! Along with enjoying your adventures, I like your thoughtful interviews. I particularly liked the Dark Skies episode a few months back. Lastly, my husband and I were lucky to get a private Puffin viewing and photography tour with Hannah and Erik last July at the beautiful Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, Oregon. It was a thrill to see and photograph the Puffins, and we remember that day fondly. Thank you for what you do for the birds, and for your kindness and generosity towards us. Barb and Wendell

    Birding travel
It seems like I’ve been subscribed to this podcast for a while now. I definitely like some episodes more than others. My favorites are your stories about your birding travels. Story telling is a strength of this podcast. There is also a lot of helpful practical information about the birding locations you visit. I know I’ll be listening to your episodes about south Texas again when I eventually plan a trip there.

One of my favorite birding podcasts
Listening to this podcast is like hanging out with birder friends telling birding stories. Hannah and Erik’s adventures are fun and relatable, and give an authentic picture of what birding is like. During COVID most of my birding has been solo; this podcast is a reminder of how fun it is to bird with others. Thank you for making my drives to birding spots more enjoyable.

    Good stuff
Easy, friendly banter. Informative and relevant bird content. What more do you need?

    Great birding podcast
The laid back style of this podcast is refreshing and fun. Hannah and Erik are knowledgable, funny and encouraging of all types of birders and birding styles. I am a new birder and always feel included in this podcast. I learned about some sites in my own backyard when they visited Tucson and produced two episodes after their visit. How could I not have known about Ash Canyon Bird Sanctuary! There is some rambling, but it’s always entertaining. The only suggestion I would have is more episode notes! I am always interested in the state parks and restaurants and other places mentioned, but have to go write them down in the moment or go back and listen again. Thank you for a great job!

    Authentic, Welcoming, Educational, and Fun
Just a tremendous birding podcast. The ability of Hannah and Erik to describe their birding adventures in a way that tells the listener, “you can do this too!” From tips and tricks of the trade to being open about things that they learned through their journeys about the birds, the terrain, the people, and each other. If you love this podcast be sure to listen to Women Birders as well. Hannah delivers a fun environment and great conversations with brilliant women birders. -Jason Hall

    Fun content
Laid back bird banter, easy fun listening. I enjoy hearing about adventures of fellow birders and their trips afield. Conversation is free flowing and can wander at times but still entertaining. One of the bird podcasts I look forward to each time it arrives. Perhaps it’s just me but the episodes are a good bit quieter than my other podcasts and I have to turn volume up all the way to hear clearly while driving. That’s my only suggestion, a bit more volume:)

    Just “normal” people talking birds...
I have to admit, I didn’t get it at first. My initial reaction: “What is this, it’s just a couple of normal people talking birds?” Fast forward six months and needing to consume birding content every waking moment I gave it another go. I finally get it, it’s just a couple of normal people talking birds - brilliant! I’m now bingeing through all three seasons. Glad I gave you guys a second chance, hope to meet you in the field some day. Cheers! - Jeff. Helena, MT

    Enjoyable bird conversations.
This is an enjoyable podcast with two people chatting about their birding experiences. You can tell they love birding and the relaxed manner of the podcast makes it feel like the post trip conversations one has with other birders that are sorely missed these days.

    Really Nice Birding Podcast
So now I really want to go birding in Arizona! During the pandemic, I’ve been staying close to home and enjoying my local birds. This podcast is such a treat because the I get to vicariously enjoy birding through Hannah

I love this podcast. I find it very relaxing while I am driving, working, or eating my breakfast thank you for creating this wonderful podcast but I have a few questions 1. What your favorite bird 2. What Central American bird guide book would you recommend

    An entertaining, informative podcast
I found your podcast prior to my recent trip from Central Florida to North Georgia. Your easy but informative banter really helped me pass the time on my solo drive. As I went back into your archive I discovered that you used to live in Florida and you have birded some of my favorite spots. Your interview with Greg Miller is definitely my favorite episode yet. Now I look forward to listening as I am on my way to my next birding adventure!

    Re, July 16, 2020 Episode
First time to listen to your podcast and stumbled onto this one about the eBird reviewal process. I'm a longtime birder and new to reporting on eBird, so I found this episode extremely helpful! Now I'm curious to listen to your other episodes. Thanks!

    Thanks
With stay-at-home orders in April I took my camera to my backyard and discovered the wild of birding. I started to educate myself to birding, and found your podcast. I love that you don’t just talk about birds, but YOUR experiences with birds. Your excitement and exuberance about birding is contagious. Thanks again, Stu Oxenhorn

    This Pod is a Treasure
I recently started birding, at age 50. I gravitate toward the birding podcasts by younger hosts because I love their energy, I enjoy their cultural/generational touchpoints being different from my own, and I admire that they got started birding so early! Hannah and Erik Go Birding are in my top three birding podcasts. I'm enjoying going through the back catalog. More recently, I thought the interview with eBird reviewer Adrian Hinkle was most interesting and that Adrian was charming. Hannah and Erik get great guests and they are natural interviewers who listen well and ask excellent questions. Count me a big fan! I appreciate all the work that goes into such an exceptionally good pod. --Michelle in the Hudson Valley of NY ps you can maybe guess from my handle that White Throated Sparrow was my spark bird. :-)

    Down-to-earth charming birders
Just came here to 5-star this wonderful podcast, to counteract the 2 two-star reviews they mentioned in their last episode. Erik and Hannah have a charming dynamic. They talk passionately about birding and their lives in a warm-hearted and relatable way. (Currently drinking Sapporo White Belg)

A great way to get excited to grab your binocs and head out to look for our winged friends
Actually a 4.5. I always look forward to this coming into my feed. The approach birding from a great perspective and make the podcast with the lay birder in mind. They often tackle topics that those of us who bird for fun and not work often wonder. Great energy and always fun. Half a point off for an occasional sound issue.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
They make birding so much fun. Must listen to podcast!

Even if you don’t know birds...
I’ll be honest...I know nothing about birds. However, I met these two a while ago and they are so entertaining that I had to listen. Educational, fun, and clear that they care about this! Give it a try! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Great relaxed birding podcast!
I really enjoy Hannah and Erik’s podcast. I recently became a birder and now live up in Seattle, but I’m from Oregon and have spent a ton of time on the Oregon coast - so this podcast is also extremely nostalgic for me! I haven’t gone birding on the coast yet, so I’m excited to visit some hotspots once things are safe to travel again. I enjoy the casual nature of the discussions and the interviews and I like the relationship and banter between Hannah and Erik. I think my favorite episodes are just where they talk with each other. I hope I can visit them at their hotel someday!

Not a birder, but maybe I will be?!
Saw you promote this show on a podjunkie tweet. I never knew these types of podcasts existed. I like how you talk about technology and different apps to take bird watching into the 21st century.

    Birding Adventures
I love the podcast. I especially enjoy hearing about your birding adventures and sometimes misadventures. You guys have a special fun relationship full on love and birds and it is wonderful that you share it with us. The only suggestion I have for improvement is to turn up the recording volume if possible.

    Fun podcast
I love the casual and informative format of this podcast. It is obvious they love birding, beer and hanging out with each other and other bird nerds. I learn something new with each podcast and am inspired to get out there and enjoy nature.

    More quality content please
I was so excited for your “bird science” episode however found myself fast forwarding so much just to get to some quality content before finally turning it off. The first 20 minutes are about your opinion about beer. If this is your thing cool- then your podcast should be named beer & birding or something like that. Then when actually talking about bird science it was so one dimensional and primarily opinion based with very little actual science reporting. Also, if you are reviewing a bird Confrence say what was discussed. Not, “yeah I thought the presentation was really great, and his photography was exceptional” or something along those lines was stated. What I was expecting is- X birding Confrence featured speaker X, who has a background in (specific) X, and brought up the topic of X. His opinion was X. Report... that’s all I ask. No offense but I’m not interested if you liked a speaker or not. What happened, what was said, what conclusions were drawn? I’m disappointed as I wish there was a birding podcast out there like that.
  • andrea_c
    Great bird nerd podcast!
I am so appreciative that bird nerd things like this exist. I’m a “first year” birder, so on my hunt for anything that would help me learn more, I found Hannah and Erik. This podcast is informative, educational, funny and enjoyable to listen to. Give it a listen, you’ll enjoy it. And find them on the socials, they are fun there too!

    Want to be a birder
Just finished a video shoot and exploration in South Korea, Gyeongju and was listening to the various bird songs and spotted a few here and there. Thought to myself, I think I will become a birder. Got on the bus to go back to my campus, found your podcast, and listened to you all~ I very much enjoyed it and look forward to exploring this new interest that has planted itself somehow in my psyche. Listening to you talk about your adventures put a little water on that seed, so I thank you very much. Cheers, and happy birding:) oh, and it doesn’t hurt that Erik spells his name correctly:)
  • zzzmarcus
    Always inspirational
Fun and funny takes on birds, birders, and birding. Every time I listen I feel motivated to get outside and go birding. Thanks!
