The Nameless TwinNot sure what to think…This podcast is definitely from a left viewpoint. There’s no denying that they have a “liberal” slant. FoxNews was always a joke as far as I was concerned… and I was VERY conservative. The Clinton/Lewinski thing… I’d urge them to look more wide-lens. Slick Willy was a sexual predator. Downplaying what he did JUSTIFIES the downplaying of what The Donald has done. Either both men should be let off or both should be condemned. Clinton and Trump are either both guilty or both innocent.

Shagman12Rise of Fox NewsI think you are very biased against FoxNews.

LovelyDayLovelyDayPlease continue this through present dayExcellent retrospective on how Fox planted the seeds to become the behemoth it is today and how “mainstream” media has cowered and capitulated in its wake. Please continue this series into present day - reporting on this is more important than ever!!

VDJ81Episode 5 Sound IssueLong time Slow Burn fan. However episode 5 of this installment has audio issues involving double layered and (sometimes) unsynchronized vocal tracks.

I like ducks.Smear jobAs an avid consumer of the news media (all networks) I was curious about how the Fox News story would be presented. Sadly it’s not the unbiased bio it pretends to be but actually a hit piece against Fox masquerading as a bio. Here’s just one example: in the first episode the host makes several mentions about how there’s a distinction between the daytime news reporting and the evening opinion shows, but later recounts the story of how Sean Hannity (evening opinion host) quips to a colleague on election night that “…our guy might win this” while referring to George W Bush. The inference made by the podcast host is that this is evidence of a bias at the network across the board (favoring republicans), even though he’d already established that opinion hosts are disconnected from the news bureau. There are many more examples of the same type of shady, biased storytelling. If you’re just looking for confirmation bias and already don’t like Fox News, you’ll love this. But if you’re looking for an honest recounting of the early days at Fox…this ain’t it.

MikafinoWhy is this not a Slow Burn feed ?This feed pushes other Slate podcasts on the regular.

TN Water DogJustice for AllInteresting story. How about you do one and title it "Fall of the Legacy Media."
-
Ghosty_francisWorst Season they’ve made. Not sure what’s going on over there. They decided to drop all standards they previously had for themselves in past seasons.

teacherljkA Fascinating Telling of the History of FoxI am old enough to have lived through all of this history, and yet hearing it told through the people working at Fox in its early days is blowing my mind. At first, I was worried that thinking about politics during the election would stress me out, but I’m finding it’s just…explaining a lot. Anyway, it’s riveting.

_spreesome_After you fire Ludacris, fire your audio editing teamThis latest episode was OK, but there were several instances of two narration tracks playing simultaneously. Should have been caught. This isn’t some shoddy homemade podcast.
-
DuckKnucklesCool editNewest episode has some extra takes left in. They play simultaneously. I’m sure it was an accident but the “black president “ line what’s my favorite
-
TrumandogmuToo ramblingI used to really enjoy this podcast. Now it seems to lack discipline to tell the story in a concise manner. Too many voices are brought in to talk about tangents that don’t support what is supposed to be the storyline. Needs a fresh look at editing.

Papillon LadyCruel TeaseI listened to 4 hours of content only to find out that I’d have to pay to get the last two episodes. You really need to tell people upfront before they waste their time. Not to mention it’s just sneaky and wrong. You won’t find me giving Slate another chance. I’ve wasted enough of my time already. Shame on you, Slate.
-
Corey HollimanBait and SwitchGreat stories that will get you listening for hours, only to find you have to pay to hear the final episodes. No problem to charge for something, but very sleazy way to go about it.
-
TheOneAndOnlyDDCGetting worseThis was a really good series at one time. These last few seasons, however, have been pretty boring. Maybe the are running out of subjects but I couldn’t even make it through one episode in the latest season. It was putting me to sleep.

kittenpeanutjonesShould Be Renamed “Slow Burn…of Everything Not Liberal”After having watched the last season of “American Crime Story” in which the Clinton-Lewinsky Scandal was covered - which also had a decidedly liberal slant - I was lead here in hopes some classic, independent journalism would lay the story out based on facts, with perhaps a modern hindsight that detailed how disgusting the media, Clinton, his wife and his administration had treated both Lewinsky and even Tripp. Nope. Linda Tripp is still the self-important, sneaky, manipulative, right-wing traitor (read “conservative female”) who got involved in all of this to gain…what exactly is never really addressed because the fact is, the woman actually LOST everything, and was so routinely destroyed for her physical appearance that she put herself through 3 painful face surgeries in hopes people - and the media - might stop constantly commenting on her appearance. I’m sure it will shock you to find out that the reporter and producer never ONCE mentions how repellent it was that the media - of which he’s a representative - focused on both Lewinsky and Tripp’s appearance. I’m sure it will also shock you to find out that while Monica’s refusal to speak to the FBI for fear she might betray her “boyfriend” as being “incredibly strong and loyal,” Tripp - along with all the FBI agents - are portrayed as sneaky creeps out to destroy the President. It’s yet another way liberal media defends anyone in their party for the most disgusting, egregious acts but condemns any conservative for the same offenses. Journalism is dead. Impartiality is over. Herds just another example of proof.

GlobaldennyAn important, historically rich podcastAs a 53 year old Gay man who lived in Southern California in the 70s & 80s, I lived through the events outlined in this season’s episodes. Although, I hope, much of my generation is intimately familiar with this era, I doubt many people younger than me have much idea of what we went through then to get to where we are today.
-
Szulisr614Informative and easy listenI’ve gone through all 6 seasons and this is such an informative, easy to listen to podcast. You really become immersed in each story and come out educated at the end.

bGuilesWow. So low. What a turn off. This is the first podcast. I’ve ever listened to that only allows paying customers to listen to the final episodes of a series after leading them through all its prior episodes. I thought this was going to be a podcast. I’d listen to all seasons of. Started with the Watergate season because it had personal meaning for me. Night after night I listen to the unfolding episodes until the final two or three were only ads for the real episodes, which I could only listen to if I paid. It’s one thing to force listeners to consume too many ads, but this choice by Slate is entirely unacceptable practice. What is wrong with you Slate? Just so low. Yuck. I wonder if all your podcasts are like this? I won’t know because I am not going to risk wasting my time with any after this.

angrylfSeason 9 is great so far!Working my way through season 9 and it is nice to hear historical fact being reported where lesbians and gays get the credit they deserve - thankfully trans activists have not been shoehorned into the story claiming a part of history that doesn’t belong to them.
-
notafanofnewlineupI really like this podcast but…I don’t like how they put selective episodes behind a paywall. For example, the whole first season is available except the last ep. Which, I mean, do your thing, but it doesn’t make me want to listen to any more since I’m worried I won’t be able to hear the ending. Other slate podcasts offset with more ads, etc.
-
6for5Great podcast!Enjoying this and looking forward for more!
-
DrDK2Season 9 is So TimelySeason 9 is about the fight for gay rights. And the parallel with the current anti-trans hate sweeping the nation is chilling! Let’s hope we as a nation have learned from the prior fight for gay rights and motivate EVERYONE to stand up NOW and fight for trans rights!

The Real Zen BoySB Is Great, but they keep dumping garbage into the feedThe podcast Slow Burn is great, but they keep trashing the feed with garbage podcasts they can’t get anyone to listen to. Decoder Ring is absolutely awful. People talking about things they know nothing about and putting some stupid modern interpretation on it. They have also stuck One Year in the feed, which is pretty good, but I’m already subscribed to One Year. So I get double episodes. It’s so disrespectful listeners. If I want to hear these podcasts I will subscribe to them. They just don’t seem to have a basic understanding of how podcasts work. At some point, you realize it’s all about greed and trying to get more unwilling listeners to increase their ad dollars. So, I have unsubscribed.

B C VGreat whether or not you lived itEach season is a great trip to the past whether it’s a decade I lived in or not.

Jack 204WeakFirst the childhood acquaintance that reports with obvious amusement that Thomas was a nerd and bullied. Then we have the college acquaintance who chuckles when he says Thomas had no game with women. Then we have the ex girlfriend who says he was a drunk and wore shabby clothes and liked porn (but she still dated him). Also, apparently he can’t dance either. Cheap shots by false friends who are probably jealous of his success or craving attention. None of this is newsworthy. Actually it’s all pretty common human experiences. It is a shabby attempt to shame and bully a man because you don’t like his politics. Waiting for the podcast about how well Hillary or Biden can dance.

RS-123Subbed to Slow Burn but get Decoder RingI subbed to Slow Burn, not Decoder Ring yet it keeps pushing Decoder Ring.

-
DevlynmcFascinating show, but…I love this podcast. However, Slate keeping the ‘Roe v Wade’ season behind a paywall is pretty counterintuitive to making that season in the first place. Don’t yall want people to learn this history?
-
Ccarre5Allows Israel ads to play on their episodeAbsolutely disgusting to allow Zionist ads on your show. Shame on you.

Mark48185Twist The Meaning to Fit The NarrativeMislabeling is a Liberal trend. Reproductive rights? To reproduce something is to produce something again or to generate (offspring) by sexual or asexual means. Abortion is the opposite of “Reproductive.” This is not an opinion but a scientific fact.

MotherDebzEvolution, Devolution and a MirrorI realized as a kid that the hearings were bogus and made me furious. I was an adolescent and yelled back at the TV that “SHE was the one who was electronically lynched, not HIM”. Having more diversity in the media has helped SOME but clearly isn’t enough in the era of “grab ‘em by the p*ssy” and senators who allow judicial candidates to skirt hard questions saying they won’t act as legislators from a bench seat with almost no oversight with weasely “settled law” or “precedent” nonsense. It is a boon that those of the Alito and Thomas ilk feel empowered to dissemble at such a degree that the USA has lost some reverence for the SCOTUS, finally. Nobody in power should be there for life and nobody in public service is exempt from accountability. Thanks for speaking truth to power and providing a platform for all people to reclaim our voices even though we do live in an ever approaching caliphate that denies the fact that the only mechanism available to regular people for a leg up and opportunity is often a government at some level. A State that considers and meets the needs of collective humanity is a key for a more equitable society, in my opinion. Your work is stellar, Slate. Thank You.

FYouRivalzExtremely glitchy playbackPodcast content is OK, but I’d sure like it more if it didn’t seem to skip chunks of content and repeat other parts. Doesn’t happen to me on any other podcast.
-
kh-neEpisodes stop half way throughThe episodes that you don’t need a subscription for freeze about 28 to 32 minutes into the episode and will not play any further. The content is great, but it doesn’t matter if you can’t listen to it.
-
DarthJader27Don’t waste your timeI got really into season 3, but the last two episodes are behind a paywall so you can finish it without paying $15. They did a really good job and had great content. Would have been a 5 star rating if I could finish.

Owsleyowl44Great content, horrible playback!!!Most of Seasons 1-4 are subjected to random repeated content, only half episodes playing, episodes not playing at all. The content is great but if I can’t hear it I am frustrated.

bunnyravitzRemarkable.I was 20 when Anita Hill testified at Thomas’ confirmation hearings. I remember being outraged that they didn’t believe her but was too young, too inexperienced in the world to really take on the full emotional load of what happened. I am now staring down the barrel of 52 and have practiced as a white, female lawyer since 1997 and experienced my own versions of sexism and sex harassment in the profession even when working amongst fellow liberals and in the court system. I’m only 51 but remember being told not to wear pants to Federal court appearances or I would lose. Never mind the overt harassment I experienced every time I appeared in state court (in ‘liberal’ New York, now less) and at the hands of colleagues and coworkers. And I had white privileged that provided a measure of bubble wrap to my experiences that women of color did/so not. The humanity you imparted to Professor Hill while laying bare her trauma - no less stunning and painful than that of Christine Blasey-Ford - could not have been in easy tightrope to walk but you did so beautifully. I also so appreciate your vulnerability in conveying your experience as a Black man against the dissonance of Thomas’ evisceration of case law that protected Black and brown students, voters, and others. I have loved all seasons of Slow Burn but this one will stay with me for a very long time. Thank you so much.

lordemsworthHow dare theyThe last two episodes only available to subscribers! How will I ever know how watergate ends!!!
-
Sheep tracksDifficult subject well doneI appreciated the respect given to all people interviewed for this, especially Thomas’s mother. The story is upsetting on many fronts but very important documentation of something we should all pay attention to.
-
papabevGood podcastsAs always the left media can’t have any conversation with out brining up trump and their hatred towards him stick to the subject. Apparently if it’s a fetus it can die but calling it a baby is too far. It’s a left wing hit piece but what else is new they play to the audience’s ignorance for emotional reactions. There is absolutely nothing wrong with going on a trip with a friend.

FCol8Great podcastJoel’s voice is great. This story about Clarence Thomas was very informative. I am happy I tuned in. Every episode was narrated great.
