Celestial Sex

Sexuality #151

Celestial Sex, hosted by Chris Duce and produced by Colin Hatch, is an interview series about love and sex through the lens of Mormon upbringing. Our conversations dive into the confusing nature of growing up in Mormonism where sexuality is taught as something that's beautiful and sacred, but can only be explored after you're married- usually very quickly in between the temple sealing and the reception in the back of an '88 Mercury Tracer. Recorded in Los Angeles, we speak with post-mormons, ex-mormons, jacked-mormons, and active mormons alike about their parents' timid explanations of where babies come from, awkward bishop interviews that mostly focus on masturbation, first sexual experiences, current outlook on sex, and more.

    Relatable AF
It is honestly so refreshing to hear all these stories of people discovering their sexuality while growing up in the church. I always thought I was the only one who was feeling these sexual frustrations, but clearly I wasn’t. I wish this podcast existed when I was a teenager because I think it could have helped me out so much, and would have made my road to self discovery a lot smoother. I love this podcast so much, I’ve only been listening for 2 days, but its been nonstop. I also got my sister hooked on it and we live coming together to talk about peoples experience and our experiences.

First Time Listener here :) and loved it :)
Just listened to the Jake Bernhardt interview. The interviewers, Chris and Colin, did a great job of choosing an intriguing subject (Jake) and letting the subject speak freely. Bravo!

    So relatable!
Growing up in the church, there were so many times when I didn’t understand completely basic components of sex. This podcast makes me realize that I was not alone! It is so refreshing to hear others had the same experience. Thank you so much for this podcast!!

    A fun listen
I’m not usually interested in Mormon or ex Mormon podcasts, but this podcast is refreshingly honest. Something everyone enjoys!

    Important for Actives and Exes!
As an active Mormon, it has been so refreshing to have a podcast that aligns with so much of what I believe, and many other member friends believe, about sex. It helps clarify beliefs and understand your own sexuality and others better. The conversations Chris and Collin facilitate are important for all to hear and are moving to a place where shame is not a part of the equation anymore. Also, if anything, listen to the podcast for the intro music. It gets me every time.

    Funny, Informative, Refreshing
As a sexually repressed exemormon woman, it is incredibly refreshing and fun to listen to this podcast! The guests have been interesting, somewhat diverse, and sex-positive. I would like to see Chris working towards letting the guests talk more about their own experiences and express it in their own words. I want to hear Colin talk more during each episode too. I also wish there were more episodes becuase I already binge-listened to all of them! :)

Mormons need to listen to this
Everyone with a mormon background should listen to this podcast. You'll be blown away how much applies to your own life!

1rst time reviewer, future long time listener
I'd be remiss & ungrateful (sniffle, sniffle) if I didn't let all you know that. I don't know where I'd be without the the true podcast of celestial sex - (probably sitting on a hard piece of plastic fighting the co-dependent urge to help someone move in EQ). After listening to Ruel Brown podcast, I know with every fiber of my being (including the sensitive areas) that THIS is this NOT the only TRUE Podcast on the face of the earth, but it's a very, very good one. and I desire that all should partake.

So glad I found this podcast!
The guests on this podcast share personal aspects of their experence with Mormonism and their relationship to sex throughout their lifespan in a way that is personal and funny. Chris is a great, natural host. Never miss and episode.

    Has potential
Wish the hosts were so bias against the church. Wish you would incorporate more active, single LDS members with a healthy outlook on sexuality. I hope hosts can guide the conversation instead of trying to over talk guest.

    Mislabled
This podcast isn't about celestial sex. It is about hedonist sex for Jack Mormons. There is a big difference. Celestial sex is aweswome, by the way.

    Sex talk w Chris!
I love this podcast! These great hosts and guests talk about the one thing that is never talked about in Mormon culture, sex. They discuss the taboos and shame that revolves around sexuality within the Mormon culture and how to stop feeding into it.

    I needed this!
I was raised in the LDS church and fairly recently left in large part due to the issues discussed in this podcast. The episodes have so far been incredibly validating to me, and quite entertaining - they mix serious and silly really well. I will be spreading the word and maybe someday sharing some stories. I'd highly recommend this podcast for lots of people but especially for those raised Mormon or in another conservative religious culture or their partners. I can't wait to hear more!

    Afternoon delight
What a great way to spend an afternoon, listening to Chris and his guests talk about sexual exploration and growing up mormon. My daughter told me about the podcast and I'm so glad she did. Hopefully with on going episodes we can commiserate together and work through some of our mormon awkwardness. Looking forward to the next episode.

WHY HAS THIS TAKEN SO LONG
Thank the god that spoke to Joseph Smith in that quiet, sunny grove all those years ago for finally providing his ex-Mo's with the therapy they need. As someone who left the Mormon church in part because it lacked intelligence, humor, and a grasp on reality, I very much appreciate people who possess these qualities talking about how destructive this religions can be to a person's sexual identity, knowledge and expectations. I look forward to even more embarrassing confessions about twisted thoughts, guilt-ridden sexual indulgences, and backwards logic that all of us who went through it will hear and say, "I'm glad it wasn't just me."

    So Many Great Points
This is so good. I'm so glad that this is not a Mormon bashing podcast, and instead is open to anyone, whether active or not, and points out different feelings about sex. Anyone involved in a conservative family, whether they were raised in one or are currently raising one, should listen to this to recognize the issues and either heal from or avoid making these mistakes.
  • Cllaarrkk
    Entertaining and relatable
I'd recommend this podcast to anyone who grew up Mormon/sexually repressed. It's satisfying to hear others talk about their experiences with something that was so taboo but very normal.

    What We Need
Celestial Sex has brought to light something that every person raised Mormon has had to deal with on their own. The conversations are enlightening, encouraging, and needed. Chris does a great job of keeping it light, but doesn't pull any punches. The openness that the guests offer hasn't been achieved on a podcast outside of The Heart. Although it has a particular niche in mind, the guests' stories reflect truths that anyone raised in a conservative home has had to grapple with.

    Let's talk about sex
So excited for more episodes of this show! I'm not really an interviews podcast person, I like more narrative based stuff, but I am way into sex and Mormon culture so I am here for this, let's do it.

    5 Stars
Great introductory episode. As a lifetime member of the Mormon religion, I empathize with everything Chris described about his personal experience with his own sexuality and I bear my testimony that what he says is true. I am excited to see where this podcast goes. Good Job Chris

    Celestial Sex is great
Chris Duce is my friend. He is strange, long-winded, and sensitive. He is also hilarious and brilliant. I believe these are all key characteristics of a promising podcaster. I'm very excited to hear more of Celestial Sex and Chris.

    Refreshing
Finally someone is talking about this so frankly! Looking forward to more episodes
