In Front of Our Eyes

839

In March 2021, the first of the former officers charged in the killing of George Floyd will go on trial. Police officers are rarely prosecuted in such cases—and the world will be watching. The Minnesota Public Radio newsroom, which has followed this case in detail from the beginning, will bring listeners updates on this monumental case, and the consequences it holds for the city and the country. Created in collaboration with American Public Media.

How can the trial be a joke ? It’s literally all real do you think they just made this up ?! No, so in fact it’s not a joke. Also my mom was listening to this when I got out of my therapy appointment...

    Horrible
    Very bad and biased reporting

    Superficial
I’ve watched the entire trial and I could have done a better job. All it does is repeat what was covered on MPR. Does not bring any new perspectives or analysis.

    More like a 4 or a 3 but 1 isn’t fair so I’m offsetting
I’m not sure how people see this as bad reporting as they’re covering what’s been said in the court room. The chief of police said the cop was wrong. The coroner ruled out drugs as cause of death and declared it homicide. So at this point it really does just come down to a matter of degrees. Something needs to be done about our police structure and I have to say I’m very proud of the courage the police chief demonstrated by saying this was not ok because there are so many cases where this isn’t happening. (Long Island serial killer, the woman in Malibu mts who was released from a weird pick up...at midnight and then found dead...how so many officers are tied to clan..how so many officer groups are tied to groups where they place bets on inmates or let them go in neighborhoods that are unsafe for them and can cause them death...because it’s now a game....cases of people in poor neighborhoods who call in and report drug activity and then nothing is done when the drug sellers set the concerned citizens house on fire) There’s a sickness in this country and it seems to love positions of power. It needs to stop

Hypocrisy they name is the Derek Chauvin advocate
Isn’t it telling that the same people giving this podcast poor ratings bc they claim it is biased and presumes Chauvin’s guilt prior to hearing g all evidence & doesn’t provide him w/the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, are the same people that condemn George Floyd bc they say he was passing a counterfeit $20, despite the fact there is zero evidence he was aware the $ was counterfeit, these same people are incapable of seeing how their own prejudice informs their inclination to give Derek Chauvin the same benefit of the doubt, that they are wholly unwilling to even consider affording George Floyd.

    The Podcaster predetermined guilt
This is supposed to be about the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. In a trial, we must prioritize the facts of the case over everything else, but this podcast does almost the exact opposite. It does not cover the arguments that the prosecutors or defense counsel are making, and it does not cover what is happening in the court room on a daily basis. It simply assumes the officer is guilty based on emotional characterization of communities within Minneapolis. This is important to understanding the context of the trial, but absolutely fails i this is important to understanding the context of the protests, but it absolutely fails in explaining what is happening in the trial.

    Too little, too far between
Too little coverage, and not useful when episodes are so far apart. I can find out what I need from other sources. I’d listen if these episodes were more in-depth and/or closer to real-time analysis (e.g., end of the day, recapping the day).

    Facts?? What facts??
In typical media bias style, this commentary briefly highlights, with opinion, what this podcast wants you to hear. Nothing factual is reported. Real journalism is dead. Waiting for someone to prove me wrong.

    Not the coverage it advertises
I was looking forward to this being a daily or twice-weekly deep dive on the trial as it happens but it isn’t that. There’s been more than a week of the trial and we haven’t gotten any real content other than a 10 minute update. Not good.

    Worse than useless
A 10 minute “update” after a full week of trial? I am sure MPR has considerable coverage on the radio. Use some of that reporting. Summarize every day of the trial. This should be obvious. This couldn’t be more useless if you tried.

    This is dumb
Only the jurors can judge this trial. We need due process without the community getting all fired up. We have laws, criminals will break them, they still deserve a fair trial.
  • Jim Garman
    Biased point if view
I don’t see an episode referring to the bad days in court for prosecution. Like Thursdays debacle I’m not pro Chauvin. Just pro facts

    Why so little?
I subscribed to this podcast hoping for in-depth coverage of the trial but all we get is a 10 minute episode once a week? Why aren't there daily updates? Why are the episodes so short?

    Where are new episodes?
I thought the whole point of this podcast was to cover the trial. We’re 5 days in and there haven’t been any new episodes since last week. What’s going on?
  • qwethan
    Poor
Way too many adds, more than half the episode is adds and when the hosts talk they often do not talk about the trial but their personal life.

    No real facts here
So I’m currently maybe three minutes in to the life and death episode of George Floyd, I will not give this podcast anymore time of my life but I will write a review correct in a few mistakes I’ve already heard or kind of important facts mysteriously left out to fit this narrative. For 20 minutes the officers were very accommodating to George Floyd offering him an air-conditioned seat in their car which he resisted and asked to be put on the floor because for the entire duration of the interactions with the police officers he was screaming I can’t breathe. The autopsy reported the officers did not kill George Floyd the combination of stress and the multitude of drugs he was on at the time caused him to overdose. Furthermore the knee on the back of the neck was standard training in the police training handbook. Can we also mention how the store owner told George Floyd twice that he had given him a fake $20 bill and George Floyd did nothing he was not a golden child like you were paging him out to be, it is sad that he died but the officer does not deserve to go to prison for following his training. Why go to all the trouble of making this podcast if you’re not even gonna tell the truth? (i’m sorry for any grammatical errors I’m on my hands-free driving right now but I just could not stand not getting this review out)

  • Rebecca.riot
    Lol at right wing hypocrisy
As if biased right wing narratives and news sources don’t exist and isn’t eaten up by people looking to justify their bigotry and racism. As if the knee on a neck for almost ten minutes couldn’t possibly have killed a man. No no let’s blame the drugs he possibly had in his system even though he was fine when he was in the store. No it could possibly be the violently racist cop who obviously didn’t care that this man couldn’t breathe and ignored him while he repeatedly said he couldn’t breathe. It’s sad that people have so much hate for a person that they will completely ignore reality to justify someone’s murder and dehumanization. The problem isn’t this podcast it’s you.

He wasn’t killed on video. He died of a drug overdose. Read the coroner’s report. Over 2x the lethal amount of fentanyl, no signs of asphyxiation at the neck, saying he couldn’t breath and foaming at the mouth and begging the cops to sit with him before the police put him on the ground. He knew he shoved the drugs up his rectum, and he knew he was dying. It is tragically sad, but it wasn’t murder.
  • 911king
    Communist propaganda
The dude had lethal levels of fentanyl in his system and the knee thing is in the process manual. You are being lied to and manipulated because the Left takes advantage of your weak minded, socially illiterate, gullible emotionality.
  • Jjackss1234321
Where are the facts of the case?
I’m not trying to listen to how people feel. I want to know the evidence and the facts of the case. Or are you not covering the actual trial?
  • iamzooky
Why are there no new episodes since Sat?
Was excited to see this being covered by MPR but then noticed there apparently aren’t new episodes every day? There have been multiple testimonies this in the past 3 days but there hasn’t been an update in 4 days. Why say you’re a podcast covering the trial when you’re unable to keep the podcast updated in correspondence to the trial? What’s the point? Even a 10-15 minute episode would be better than literally nothing
