Sherlock Holmes Gielgud & Richardson

"The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes," a British radio show produced by Harry Alan Towers and aired on BBC and WCRA-NBC between 1954 and 1955.

This series is notable for starring two highly esteemed British actors:

  • Sir John Gielgud as Sherlock Holmes

  • Sir Ralph Richardson as Dr. Watson

The shows were directed by Val Gielgud (Sir John's brother) and Martyn C. Webster, and written by John Keir Cross. Interestingly, Orson Welles also made an appearance as Professor Moriarty in some episodes.

Despite its relatively short run, this series is highly regarded by fans of Sherlock Holmes and radio drama for the excellent performances of Gielgud and Richardson.
