Nate is obviously missed, but Robert is still the man! I have no strong feelings either way about Derek yet. Definitely surprised to hear how incredulous they both were that a football fan might not care much about the MVP debate. Feels like a classic case of national pundits getting a tad out of touch with what matters to most fans. Not all of us like football purely for the arguments that may come with it - some of us just enjoy the game itself. That whole conversation really drove home for me just how much Nate brought to the show. Feels more narrative-driven now than before, but I’ll keep listening!

Can you please add time stamps to your podcasts? Other shows that go long like you do it. I have stopped listening to your podcast because I only want to hear specific topics but it takes me forever to find them because you don’t put time stamps in the summary.

This show has the best combination of football stats and actual football analysis from people who know the game. It’s a great listen for anyone who loves football and wants to learn more about it.

This has been my go to show for the past 2 years now. I miss Nate, (and love his show over at yahoo) but Derick has been great since taking over! I love the in depth analysis and deep dives into each game every week. Love listening to Robert rant about the bears every week (I’m a packers fan). Really love this show!

Real bad, unenjoyable, a lot of words and time spent to say very little of substance or consequence

Take a drink every time Mays says “right now” or “what this is going to look like” and you’ll end up in the hospital.

I can count on one hand the number of episodes that didn’t really interest me. I almost always find it a worthy listen!

Listen to it every weekend on my long run along the Chicago lakefront to prep me for the weekend’s slate of games. Love the energy and dedication that Robert and the rest of the crew bring.

Sometimes the host starts talking like a valley girl, with guttural, purring sounds. Like, it’s weird.

Love the way you approach breaking down the league from both an analytical and narrative perspective.

The show is so good and smart that it’s worth my time to leave a review. Never the knee-jerk reaction or brag about some pre-season prediction. Just thoughtful and insightful. I do miss Nate (“How ya doin’, buddy?”), but the new guys have filled in admirably. Keep up the great work and please keep doing this for as long as pissible

Best NFL podcast out there

Robert talks about football with an earnestness that immediately drew me in. It’s clear he cares and is curious about the game and why things are how they are. This podcast lacks a lot of the smugness I hear from other hosts and analysts. You can hear these guys are really rooting for players to succeed and are curious about the game.

I love the show and love how much more knowledgeable I am about the game because of the show. Very rarely do I skip an episode.

Love this show, never miss it. Robert and Derek are such a great combination of insights, informed views and genuine love of the game. Give it a listen!

Come for the geno propaganda, stay despite the dak propaganda

I have been listening to The Athletic Football Show podcast for several years now. The coverage is top notch, and I like the variety of topics - game coverage/previews, rankings, and other insights. Additionally, Robert Mays is a great host. I listen to multiple shows of this podcast every week, and really enjoy having this podcast as part of my weekly rotation.

Really enjoyed the CB conversation with Foxworth. I listen to most episodes and this one was special.

Robert uses the phrase “trot out” the way one says “umm”

It’s the best pod if you are interested in what actually happened and why. Mays’ enthusiasm makes me like football more.

I have enjoyed listening to each show, from preparing for the season to the weekly recaps the level of information being presented is great. Love the deep dives and opinions that you don’t get on most football shows.

I’ve been a fan of Mays since his days previewing each team with Barnwell at Grantland. His passion for football is palpable, and he continues to grow in the game of football (and ultimately grows in his ways to teach us more about the NFL). If you want to learn more about football in an approachable way, give this a listen.

Listening to this podcast provides you with great information every week. It also makes you a much smarter football fan, which is something I really appreciate. New co-host seems to be working out well too.

Robert and Derrik do a fantastic job of covering football on a micro and macro level, while keeping it fun and easy to listen to. Derrik had big shoes to fill with Nate gone and he’s been great!

I’ve been listening to this podcast for a few years now and it’s definitely the best NFL podcast out there. They do a great job of covering the NFL year round and keeping you engaged in everything. I love Draft season and these guys do an awesome job of covering so many prospects to where I feel like I’ve learned so much going into NFL Draft weekend. Losing Nate was tough because he and Robert’s chemistry meshed so well, but Derrik is super knowledgeable and he and Robert’s chemistry gets better every week. These guys do a great job covering the NFL while also teaching you a lot.

Great information and entertaining. I always feel like I learn something when I listen. I have two shows I make sure to listen to before and after every week of games and this is one of those two. Great work gentlemen. Thank you and keep it rolling.

Best football show around - been listening for the past couple years and it’s the only podcast I stay up to date on no matter what life is throwin at me. Big bonus points to Mays for his top tier food takes - sincerely helping me be a better pro football watcher and Chicago food eater.

The 1.01 of football podcasts and it’s not even particularly close. Robert is the best host in the space. Big shoes to fill with Nate’s departure but Derrik filled them.

I love the show. The energy is infectious and I need infectious energy being a Cowboys fan this season. Keep up the great work and try to give me reasons to think Dak is still good.

I listen to too many football podcasts and this is the best one. I eagerly await the release of each show. Robert, I know it’s hurts but you don’t have to be so guarded with your Bears fandom. We can tell you are reticent. Know that you are not alone - there are dozens of us! Other fans deal with bad organizations and teams too and understand. It is part of the NFL experience.

I’ve listened to this show for a few years. As an average football watcher there’s a lot going on with every game that fails to be significant enough to see but lays the groundwork for the game’s flow. That’s what Robert and Derrik do amazingly. They bring what slips past your eye to light and make sense of the things that are going on for guys with and without the ball in their hands. Great show, awesome guys, time well spent listening.
