Mobbed Up: The Fight for Las Vegas

857

Mobbed Up chronicles the rise and fall of organized crime in Las Vegas through the eyes of those who lived it: ex-mobsters, law enforcement officials, politicians and journalists. From back alleys to bank vaults, dimly lit basements to the neon glow of the Las Vegas Strip, the Review-Journal's Reed Redmond will guide listeners through the 20th-century criminal underworlds of Chicago, Kansas City and Las Vegas.

You think you know, you have no idea
I have written more essays for college that involve the mob requiring extensive research, but after listening to this show I know that I didn’t even scratch the surface. Some historical events they talk about made me pause and look up, guess what, 100% fact!!! If it is speculation, the host clearly discloses it and makes sure that “hear say” is also noted, but when they interview first hand witness I don’t consider that hear say. Great show.

Waiting for season 3 and it didn’t disappoint
I just finished listening to season 3 of Mobbed up and to hear the legendary Oscar Goodman’s account is awesome. Can’t wait to hear more from Oscar’s prospective as the mob’s attorney.

    The way it’s done
This is the way to do a podcast: lots of first person interviews, good background music, the host let’s the story do the talking. Excellent production.

    Excellent podcast
This is one of my favorite podcasts! growing up in Las Vegas there were lots of connections in day-to-day life to organized crime. From the pizza place I worked at to my neighbor who was an illegal book maker.

    Great historic podcast
I’ve always been interested in the early days of Vegas so I ran across this podcast before a 5 hour flight for work. It was so intriguing I listened the whole five hours! A few days later when I finished this podcast, it was as if I lost a friend. Really great job!

    Addicting
I found this podcast to be simply addicting. I love the depth they go into. I love hearing about this era of Vegas. Initially found podcast looking for information about Argent, the company that was the front. I ended up listening to both seasons start to finish. Bravo, nice work.

    Excellent podcast!
I just started listening starting with season 1. It’s very compelling. I have a personal connection to Frank Cullota and the Hole in the Wall gang. My grandfather was one of Larry Neumann’s first victims in Chicago in 1956. John Herman Keller, 43, was selling newspapers outside a tavern where Larry shot 2 people and then my grandfather. It all happened way before I was born but I didn’t find out about any of it until about 15 years ago. My dad was raised by his mom after his dad abandoned them so he never spoke about him at all. Being murdered doesn’t automatically make you a good person but I would’ve liked to have met him and heard his side. Someone kills 3 people and only serves 11 years in prison is a travesty. Especially in this case since he went on to kill many more.

    Both seasons are great
Loved both of these seasons. Wish there were more.

    Vocal Fry
The narrator has vocal fry. Very hard to listen to.

    Brilliant and timely
… given Jeff German’s murder outside his Las Vegas home this weekend. This is the most in depth history of Vegas I’ve ever run across. They don’t reach this stuff in school because they can’t. Please take the time to listen to both seasons of Mobbed Up. You won’t regret it.

    Awesome Show!
As a mob history enthusiast, I go crazy for a true mob documentary or podcast….providing its well done and is done with a spirit of excellence. I have heard many podcasts on Spotify and Apple dealing with organized crime and many sound cheap and uninteresting. The best show hands down is “Our Thing” with former Gambino underboss Sammy the Bull (that’s a tough bar to reach) but this show is hands down a close second. Truly entertaining, informative, and and well done. The show is chronological, going back to the beginnings of Las Vegas and puts you in a drivers seat tour through mob history. You feel like you are there during that time period. Truly well done!! Great job.

    Fascinating Listening
In traveling more than 600 miles to our second home, I’m always looking for a captivating podcast and “Mobbed Up” fits the bill. Love the dialogue and storytelling that switches from narration to recordings and interviews. And thanks to films, I actually recognized some of the characters and scenarios as they were being described. Set your settings on Listen from Older to Newer and enjoy for hours on end!

    Captivating
Listen for 5 minutes, then You’re hooked!
  • Mrs. Gummybear
    Well produced, good narration
This is one of the better series podcasts … although it’s Vegas oriented mob stores, they are fascinating, so well presented! … they hold my curiosity, I keep thinking what’s next … keep up the great job

The best podcast I have ever listened to
I first stumbled upon this during a drive to Las Vegas. It absolutely made the trip and enhanced everything I was seeing in Las Vegas. Really gives you an appreciation for the history.

    So Good!
I came to Las Vegas in 1978…and recall all the mob activities occurring and being covered in the news. I even recognize a number of guys. Thank you for pulling together such a well researched podcast. I’d highly recommend this for anyone who is relatively new to Las Vegas, or interested in this genres.

    Good research and great details
Thank you, this is a very good podcast. I like it!

    Amazing, informative
Living and growing up in Chicago you often hear about the mob but you really don’t realize how far their reach was as well as seeing how far they extended. Mobbed up season two was so informative and really well told. So much history and have truly becomes a memory of the past. I really hope there’s a season 3.
  • Myamya1998
    Wonderful production
    Very informative and great stories!

    Great pod cast
Only thing I did not like was the narrator in the second season. He definitely does not have the right voice for the job.
  • HintHint12
    Excellent
Very informative to give you more background on history of Las Vegas. Normally starts and stop with Bugsy Siegel, but this takes you deeper.

I’m not a regular ‘pod-caster’… a friend referred me to this series… I was instantly addicted!!!! Reed Redmond is so compelling as the narrator… and the information and knowledge shared is fascinating. I’ve always been fascinated by the topic of the mafia. This is a comprehensive history, told with such excellent characterizations and true actual interviews with the real players in this history. I heartily recommend! It’s a story you don’t want to stop!!
  • WorshipOne
    Extremely well done
The stories, the characters involved, the places, they’ve done an excellent job at painting the pictures. It’s like a book series that you hope will never end.
  • Trixiesixty1
    Season 1 great! Season 2 meh…
I really enjoyed first season but felt like the underlying theme in season 2 was Wayne Newton explaining himself.
  • COWBOY68
    Great Listen

    Both Seasons of Mobbed Up

    Fantastic & Fascinating!
This has quickly become one of my absolute favorite podcasts. My only “complaint” is that I blew through both seasons so fast I’m done :-)
  • monicalynn57
    Fabulous!!!
Love this podcast! Great listening I put it in my rotation but then couldn’t leave it. The dialogue is easy to follow and the actual history of Vegas was great. I have really enjoyed it!
  • Dr Remulak
    Brian Ross
Should have mentioned that Ross once falsely identified someone as a mass shooting suspect that wasn’t while Brian was with ABC. The person he id’d fit his narrative and wasn’t the shooter

    Loved it!
I consider myself a true Mafiophile and found this to be highly insightful and interesting. There is so much material in the Mob Museum; hopefully you can find enough for future seasons. Very well done. Update on Season 2: still excellent!

    Really Good Show!
Love the show. Its fascinating and makes great use of interviews and audio from the folks involved. So sad to read about the recent passing of Frank Cullotta.

Very engrossing! Always looking forward to the next episode.

    Truly fascinating1
This series does a terrific job of peeling away the layers of history on the Strip == you’ll learn a lot, and never see the Strip the same way again ... These two episodes are just ad gripping as last season's -- I can’t wait to hear the rest!
  • BrandonSNJ
    Great insight
A good listen but can do without the ‘commercials’ put them in the beginning so they’re easily skipable.
