Larry Owens is such a talent and a treasure, and an amazing personality and host! He is able to have such fascinating conversations around music with guests from all different backgrounds. So much to love!

I assume most people listen to pods when they commute or clean or, like me, work! Not only do I love this concept and Larry Owens is the perfect person to host but it’s perfection to listen to at work. Here’s why! A problem I run into often is that I can’t listen to podcasts AND type out responses to emails/whatever, it’s impossible to listen and think of a response at the same time. BUT THIS PODCAST IS A MIX OF MUSIC AND TALKIN! Perfect to mix with writing emails and I can still enjoy the dialogue. Also if you’re a fan of the unofficial experts hot producer Andrew is in here too 😊

Larry Owens brings unequivocal joy to my life. During these, The End Times, WMYS is one of the few things that fill me with joy and pride of being a big, gay actor in the Midwest. All of the Sondheim references, the correct pronunciation of Audra McDonald's name, and constant riffs make this show fit for the Queer Canon. Thank you thank you thank you.

Saw Larry in “A Strange Loop” this summer and was so thankful for this vault of delicious content to hold me over until the cast recording dropped. Except hold me over is the wrong phrase because I continue to devour everything that comes out of his mouth and onto the internet / my phone

Larry is such a special podcast host, his comedy and singing make me smile ear to ear. His guests are always interesting and he always brings such a variety of songs and conversations to the table. Can’t wait for more!

This show has revitalized my life. To hear so many people unpack their relationship to music is such a joy and pleasure. Plus it’s an outlet to hear Larry Owens consistently sing a VARIETY of songs. So special. So sweet. SO funny. We are blessed to have it.

...but they get so wrapped up in forcing songs into the conversation that they forget about being funny. My advice: Listen to Larry sing the requested song at the top of the pod and skip through to his “vanity singing” at the end. Everything else is filler.

Never been to New York but I would imagine this podcast is what it’s like. Surprisingly entertaining!

Larry and his guests give me every drop of life I need to get through these lil doordash deliveries...this podcast is for anyone who checks off any boxes of black, gay, theatre lover, Patti LaBelle/LuPone enthusiasts, breathing humans, and cultured individual. The only way I could imagine this podcast being better is if we got to hear Larry blow through Home (the Wiz) and Ain’t It Good (Children of Eden)! It's a beautiful podcast, filled with rich music and friendship among artists on the rise. Larry and James have a lovely rapport, and the guests are well-curated. It never fails to put me in a good mood. Larry is too talented to miss. My DREAM is to hear some Dusty Springfield done Larry-style. One day, perhaps!

There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who like and appreciate musical theater and those who are upset Dress Barn closed. If you’re at a loss for where to purchase your polka dotted cold-shoulder flutter-sleeve chiffon dresses for next spring probably won’t love this show. But everyone else will. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again here an now. Even a passing interest and appreciation for musical theater should be enough to urge you to subscribe. Do you like singing in the shower to your favorite bops? Is there always a song in your heart? Do pop songs from the late 90s and early aughts bring up misty water colored memories for you? This. Is. Your. Show!

I could really get into this show if there were fewer musical theatre moments. More mainstream music please!

When I wake up at 5:00am to go to bartend at a brunch shift in New York the only thing I need to get me through a 12 hour day is Larry Owen’s and Natalie Walker’s interpretation of A Weekend In The Country. Always sprinkle in a lil Sondheim.

Larry is a genius and more talented than your faves could ever hope to be. This is funny, informative, heart-wrenching and dare I say, subversive? Yes I do dare, it is subversive. I’ve never heard anything like this before but it has quickly become my favorite podcast. I can only dream that one day Larry will bring a live show to LA. My only note is that it should be released twice a week.

I didn’t know what that feeling of emptiness was until I became full. This podcast was what you were waiting for, whether you knew it or not.

If you’re somebody lucky enough to have musicians as friends or if you’re lucky enough to know where to find a piano bar, you may have had the experience of freely singing along to nostalgic music with your friends. That is the feeling at the core of this podcast. However, Larry Owens does with this podcast what he does with all his comedy work; he uses song as a vehicle to discuss the big question of “Why?” Yes, the title of this podcast asks “WHAT makes u sing?,” but the space Larry creates helps him and his guests process *why* certain music lives on within our memory and sense of self, both in our individual lives and in our communities. See also: Larry has the vocal chops to sell an album circa yesterday, but what’s beautiful about this podcast is that he is generous in spirit and makes his guest feel comfortable, regardless of the guest’s level of singing experience. It feels like a conversation at a gay bar on a good weeknight rather than a musical theatre BFA showcase. Can not recommend this highly enough.

Forever Dog has relly been doing a stellar job of putting out comedy/life podcasts that give me a break form how horrible our world is, and give me some joy for an hour... and this is another installment in that series. The first episode was such a blast! I burst out singing, myself!
