Good podcast but not fooling anyone.
I’ve been listening to Jordan’s podcast basically for as long as he’s been covering the Giants. I was tempted to write reviews in the past but withheld until now. Here’s my honest review of how Jordan covers the Giants and his podcast. To start with the good, Jordan does a nice job creating content for fans to consume. He’s pretty consistent with how often he publishes podcasts, has quality guests from current/former players to other media pundits. His “Jordan on the beat” segment can be fun and insightful too. My issue with Jordan is what he does that is blatantly obvious but he entirely plays dumb to. Jordan is not a fan of the Giants like his listeners are nor does he have to be. That’s not his job. He does however thrive on the negativity. That’s where Jordan shows his most excitement and loves to really kick the fans when they’re down. You can tell through what he writes along with his words and tone on his podcast. Sometimes it’s subtle other times not. He loves to bring on guests who he feels confident will be critical of the Giants and when they aren’t, he’ll try to pull it out of them. His classic defense is along the lines of “well the Giants have been terrible! How can I say anything positive?!”. True fans are looking not for a cheerleader or a homer. They know more than anyone that the Giants are bad…reasonable ones at least. It is however annoying to listen to someone who is always glass half full, constantly instigating and pouring cold water on anything remotely positive. His tweets or posts are a strong indicator. For example, often when a player or personnel comes to the Giants, Jordan will report it and include some little tidbit to downplay or pour cold water on it. He’ll reference a lackluster stat, age, starts, injuries etc and entirely leave out anything positive. In the reverse, Jordan will add a little tidbit to instill regret when someone leaves. A recent example was his shout out to Bobby Johnson, the Giants former offensive line coach who now seems to have his unit performing well in Washington. Does Jordan honestly think the fans buy his defense that he was genuinely giving credit to a former member of the Giants coaching staff? Bobby Johnson’s unit was an ongoing nightmare for the Giants and their fans. Jordan darn well knows this and clearly wanted to stoke the fan base with that shout out. He gets off on it. It’s obvious. I can imagine a thrill he gets especially when many attack him via social media. That’s what happens with fans of a terrible team. I listen to many other Giants podcasts. The hosts can spend an entire hour ripping the Giants. The difference is, there’s no feeling of enjoyment of doing so. They aren’t getting off on it and instigating… adding fuel to an already burning wildfire. To add even further clarity to Jordan’s personality type, listen to the questions he asks the coaching staff and personnel. None of them are productive. They are all TMZ level gossip questions. He wants the juice, something to create controversy, something to instigate so he can post and write an article about. Other members of the media will ask fair football questions even if it puts heat on the person they are asking. From Jerry Reese to Ben Mcadoo, Pat Shurmer and now Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll. None of these guys can stand Jordan. It’s in their eyes, their tone and his reactions to his gossip fueled questions. Jordan is the only member I’m aware of that triggered a player to get physical with him. Not claiming its right, but it takes a special guy to do that. Maybe that’s what his employer ESPN asks of him. Can’t rule that out. Bottom line is, Jordan isn’t fooling many. He has fun with the negativity especially at the Giants fan’s expense. Fair to ask me why I still listen to him. I do because I appreciate Giants content and Jordan does a nice job of bringing it on a consistent basis. I’m interested to hear insight he provides that’s not available through other channels. I enjoy the guest appearances…most of the time. Overall, it’s a good podcast it’s just a matter of tolerating what Jordan blatantly does on a routine basis.

    Way better pods out there.
Just weak… brags about his contacts all the time and yet seldom has information to speak of.
  • Hugo2528
    Endlessly repetitious
Jordan Raanan’s content may be great. It’s not so great that I need to hear the same point repeated 5-6x in eight minutes.

    Solid
Solid podcast, but suffers from audio consistency. Jordan sounds a little “bro-ey” but if you give it a chance he has solid takes. He’s definitely not a homer and not afraid to criticize the Giants. Would give an extra star if it wasn’t for that horrendous “on to the next” sound effect. It’s louder than the rest of the audio and just jarring.

    🤙🏾
Today’s was probably my favorite from you. You’ve been doing this long enough to connect some dots. Nothing sounded far fetched. Good look of your view of the inside.

    Great NY Giants insights
Very interesting episode with Bobby Skinner. Good debate about Giants issues and each guy presented his side about Wink Martindale leaving. Not sure who was right but always interesting to hear different sides of an issue. Must listen!

    Jordan is good at this
I definitely look forward to hearing the podcast with Jordan. Has a lot of energy and some behind the scenes stuff as a giants reporter. It’s one of the podcasts I make sure I don’t miss

    Jordan on the beat
I really enjoy this podcast in particular the Jordan on the beat segment. It would be really cool for an expanded segment or even a full episode of a day in the life following the Giants. Keep up the good work but please go easy on my boy Dave Gettleman!!!!
  • GiantKaufman
    Giant bum
You’re late on every podcast, and you sound like a gossipy female in the Giants locker room. You annoy Daboll. Go be a cowboys beat reporter you’ll fit in better.
  • Lafgoeson
    Consistently Negative and Pessimistic
The Giants fans don’t want to always hear negative and pessimistic takes on their favorite team. Giving real takes on the poor state of the team is fine. But Jordan almost seems to take pleasure in starting every episode with a petty negative take on the team. You don’t have to be a “homer” to give fans insightful coverage that also explores the positives on a regular basis. If you’re tired of covering this team, just say that.

    Don’t subscribe
Host is full of himself and brings nothing new to the table. Wish Dan Duggan had a pod

    Great pod
The make up story was hilarious lol. I understand though.

    Love it
    Excellent Podcast

    Great podcast
Jordan has incredible insight and news breaks for the Giants.

    Still terrible
The host is so annoying and has zero insight or original thought. Just parrots the prevailing thoughts, panders to the dumber portion of. The fan base. He doesn’t seem to understand the game and prefers the “storylines”. Pretty much what you would expect from espn. There are plenty of good beats that do a podcast. Do yourself a favor and listen to them. Jordan. You’re bad at your job Booooooooo!

    Great Giants Podcast
Jordan offers a view of the Giants from a beat writer's perspective, and I love it.

    Stick to football
Show is fine when JR sticks to football. Talking about his social life or trying to be funny/witty does not work at all. Beyond that there r worse podcasts
  • Bill9064
    Stop interrupting your guests!!!
Although it’s a podcast that can be good at times, -as another reviewer pointed out-Jordan R talks about himself way too much ( i.e. listen to Evan Silva episode). Also Jordan interrupts his guests and talks over them way too often.
  • Charlstaz
    Occasionally is worth the listen
So I keep it in the rotation, however, the host is a bit of a self absorbed tool. I listen for whatever unique Giant information I can get, but mostly it feels like a vanity project on the part of the host.
  • dnelson10
    Interviews
Either stop bringing on guests or stop constantly interrupting them. Solid insight, but the interviews are brutal.
  • thefightingjoejudges
    Getting hard to listen to
At one point I really liked this podcast but it is tough to listen to these days. Jordan brings up mistakes made by the giants years ago every week, talks about himself too much and interrupts his guest during interviews.
  • @kingpin
    Whiney whine whine
This guy just talks about himself and complains. Poor giants coverage, please fire him.
  • shaysdd
    Decent
Total dbag but he knows his stuff when he does decide to drop an episode
  • Dgoodmantrublu
    It's okay
Jordan works hard, but he is whiny about any criticism. His views are really just common narratives and doesn't really watch film. So his views of players aren't really well-informed.
  • NONEEE
    Late drops...
Podcast is dropping infrequently. Jordan’s takes, while interesting, are usually presented long past other podcasts. Big Blue Banter Podcast is better

    I like the podcast but
I like your podcast, you bring a lot of good view points. Here comes the but I am sick of everyone blaming everything on taking Barkley. If anyone thinks picking someone else would’ve. Fixed the team or help rebuild faster is a clown. LG isn’t are weakest position. If we didn’t pick Barkley would we have a much better LG. Yes! BUT the team would still stink! But if Barkley was playing I do think the giants would score more which is their weakest thing at the moment. The O-line is the weakest part of the team but Nelson wouldn’t have fixed the 3 weak spots on the O-line. If I’m wrong plz tell me why next podcast. Also if they signed Ross cockerel how much better would the defense be. Thank you for the great podcasts

    Great giants podcast
How come when there’s a guest his voice sounds like a robot

    Dave Rothenburg!!!!!
    Reason I gave this pod 5 stars ⭐️ 🤩😜

    Ok but ....
I like this podcast usually but the audio is so bad it’s difficult to listen to. Idk what happened but very difficult to listen to. Good content, good guests but it’s all useless if you can’t hear/ understand it.
  • Chris Berti
    Unbiased!
The thing I’ve appreciated the most from Jordan over the years is that he’s not a “homer”. Always a great listen!
  • Prebenson
    Informative
I listen to several Giant pod cast but tough to beat Jordan. It is always excellent as well as informative. I appreciate his honesty even when it hurts. Keep up the good work.

    F*** Dan Orlofsky
Haskins and Jones on equal playing field is laughable

    Till the next one
Thank you for what you do! I absolutely love it! I recently became a Giant season ticket holder (section 126) and now I feel I OFFICIALLY became part of the family. @popculturehour on Twitter

    The best Giants podcast IMO
Jordan does a great job and has a real knack on the air. The Star-Ledger’s loss is ESPN’s gain. Thanks for doing what you do, Jordan!
  • paytheline11
By the far the best Giants podcast
Funny, intelligent, engaging. Raanan really is the gold standard of giants beat writers. Enjoy this for as long as he is on this particular job because he’s going places and you’ll miss this when he moves on to bigger things.
  • Poppet😉
    Jordan Is A Blast
Don’t agree with a lot of his views, but he tells it like it is and doesn’t take this stuff or himself too seriously. A fun podcast

    Go to giants pod
Jordan is always my go to Giants expert. Great job always honest. Keep up the great work!

    An Honest Reporter
I like this podcast a lot because Jordan isn’t a homer and is honest with what is going on with the Giants. Brings some interesting points.
  • tpassa
    Spot. On.
The voice of the giants we need hear. Brutally honest analysis of Big Blue.
  • humble_king77
    Ehhh....
Every reporter doesn’t need a podcast. He just sounds like a mildly informed fan in random social media post comments and only views things in a bubble.
  • DBroff
    Exceptional
Jordan Raanan is so solid. I adore how he is objective with this team. His analysis is spot on! Such quality - Exact opposite of giants.com
  • Not Regular Guy
    Still Searching
I listen only because I haven’t found a really good podcast on the team. Please lose the “Giants After Dark” bit. When you do it, you sound ridiculous.
  • eddygoombah
    Jordan is fine. Just corny
Jordan wants to be promoted to SportsCenter anchor so badly, it’s palpable. He’s got a good voice and presence. However, his takes are milquetoast at best, cringeworthy ay worst. Perfect for ESPN.
  • RunSaquanRun
    Poor analysis of old news
Jordan is absolutely terrible. I’ve never heard or read anything from a beat reported that is so far off target. When he actually creates a new podcast, he is reporting on 3 week old news. When he tries to make an analysis, he can’t dive in and analyze why moves or decisions are being made by the organization. He only reacts to headlines and the surface information. Terrible reporter and not what I would expect from ESPN.
  • kwamezilla
    Decent but corny
Not a bad pop but listen with volume down. Talks too loud, mostly corny
  • So_NNYgman
Find something positive to talk about
This is one of the most negative person to listen too... boy after a long day work very difficult listen...
  • no_love_involved
    Horrible. Don’t waste you’re time
I’ve never listen to a more pessimistic and ignorant view towards the giants and you’re supposed to be a fan. Why decide to dedicate your time towards a podcast if all you're going to do is trash the organization? Do us all a favor and just stop.
  • mjb30
    Journalism isn’t talk radio.
I’m so thankful for this podcast. Updates on the Giants in a format as official is this is far more satisfying than scrolling through Twitter. Jordan is great on twitter and on the beat but I do not enjoy him as a solo podcast host. I hope this pod gets a host who is in that line of work, like a play-by-play guy, to pair with Jordan as the color guy.
  • Stan_M
    Must listen for Giants fans
Jordan is a great beat writer, but he shares a lot of stuff in the podcasts that he doesn’t on espn.com. A lot of the information is really interesting and insightful, and I always look forward to listening on my drive to work. There are only a handful of Giants podcasts worth listening to, and this one is at or near the top of the list.

    Dukes the MAN!
