Shiloh@Shadowlake1001 Stories for the RoadI love listening to Jon read Agatha Christie as I try not to fall asleep so I don’t miss any of the much-loved stories of yesteryear. I’m new these podcasts and tickled by their stress-free existence. Makes life a bit easier. Thank you, Jon for the time, energy and work you put into making your podcast a success.

High FidelityPlease stop!!!Jon, I’ve been listening for a very long time, so you understand that I am a fan. It hurts, but it needs to be said…. STOP TRYING TO DO A FRENCH ACCENT You sound like a Russian who, in turn, is trying to do a French accent and is failing badly. Since we’re providing constructive feedback, then it should also be said…. you NEED an editor. You frequently mispronounce common English words and you don’t employ the intention of the punctuation. This is especially apparent in the use (or misuse) of periods and commas. Since you are in the “Big Time” now start raising the level of production values. This is where you will need to focus in order to compete with the professional studios that have entered the podcast industry. I know it stings to hear criticism. I can only say it is offered to help improve your situation. There’s a dozen little things that were acceptable when you first started out (yes, I’ve been listening that long) that are now important discriminators to compete successfully at this higher level. A good editor with radio/podcast experience can help you with almost all of them. Know this too…. The day is coming when you will also have to choose whether you will continue reading versus managing the business versus managing the product (production). Each requires a different set of skills. Good luck. I’m rooting for you.

The last chapters that you posted was 18-19. I was just wondering when you’re going to finish up the book, the “Jewels of Opar”? Keep up the good work. Kelley

🇺🇸❤️🙏🏻RWJewels of OparI look forward each week to the new chapters of this fun Tarzan adventure. Since the day I found all of these 1001 podcast, I haven’t turned on the TV. Thank you John for bring so many wonderful authors off dusty shelves and into the light to brighten the lives of so many. When I have a little extra money, (if politicians perhaps become servants of the people rather than their own pocketbook) I promise to share and send some your way.
-

R JopensJohn knows storiesJohn Hagadorn’s reading of this great mystery book is done with the same enthusiasm that makes me want to listen to all his stories. I feel like John understands what makes a story great, and he reads it as it should be read. I don’t need clever voices for each different character, and I personally don’t like music or lots of sound effects in the back ground. It’s his tone and the eagerness to share the story that make John’s reading so special. He does distinguish the voices to make it easier to follow, but it the pacing I enjoy. He reads slow enough to be clear, but fast enough to keep the story moving. His inflections, I’m my opinion, are those of someone who really understands what makes a story interesting. John hopes that we enjoy his stories, but I can tell he enjoys them too, and that makes the best kind of reader! I can’t wait to see what story is next on 1001 Stories for the Road. In the mean time I am listening to The Lost World, from a little while back, in the 1001 Sherlock Holmes and the Best of Arthur Conan Doyle. Another good story.

Gin Enthusiast1001 StoriesListening to a favorite Agatha Christie now, this podcast is great! Check it out :)

kt-girlVariety of Great Literature NarratedI like this podcast due to the variety of literature narrated and provided in short sections I can listen to while cleaning or commuting. From science fiction to historical fiction to classic mysteries; the narrator gives a variety of stories. He also gives a little summary of the previous action for longer titles to help listeners- very thoughtful. It’s also a very kid friendly selection with no sex, drugs or gratuitous violence. Listeners should be aware that due to the time period some of the books were written, not all of the content is politically correct according to our 21st century perspective.
-
for realdAwesome PodcastI’m a young adult who loves this genre of literature and this is a great way to get it. I love the readers voice. It adds a level of authenticity that kind of takes me to the readers fireplace and lets me enjoy it with him. Thanks so much!

moosie-mamaOld ListenerA few years ago in a rave review, I requested you do A Connecticut Yankee in Kings Arthur’s Court, which I read back in the 70s. So glad that you’re recording it, with obvious enjoyment! Such lines as, “I prophesied myself bald-headed”, and the like, are simply wonderful. Thank you for bringing one of my favorite classics to life, Jon. Twain’s favorite creation was “Joan of Arc”; you may enjoy that also!

favorite childA gift I continue to enjoyI have been a listener for years to many of the stories Posted in Mr Hagadorn’s ‘1001 stories’ podcast network and I enjoy them all. I’ve been educated, entertained and challenged. I now am familiar with stories I’d only heard of, and am more appreciative of why these stories are classics and their authors are acclaimed. I look forward to taking the long way home and hope for red lights so I can hear the whole story! Two thumbs up. I’ll be a listener for years to come.

chahm3940The Beasts of TarzanThis is fabulous!! Thank you Jon for doing such a wonderful job reading the stories. You make all the characters in the story come alive. I had never heard this Tarzan story. Your reading of this tale I was able to feel like part of the story. Thanks again. Always Claire Placentia California
-
GenInfPerAlways worth listeningHost has a great technique of making the stories come alive through his reading of the material. The real treasure of this podcast is the selection of stories shared. They are usually older gems without the ring of familiarity and are riveting to the listener. I have binge listened to 1001 on long car rides, plane trips and working on in the garage when I need to stay awake. Thanks.
-

Guitar BirdMark of Zorro is wonderful!!I am thoroughly enjoying this rendition of Mark of Zorro! The narrator does a commendable job with all the characters and of course the famous tale itself lends itself quite well to verbal exposition. Great work indeed!

Its919amI Love the 1001 Network!I discovered these gems almost six months ago so this review is definitely overdue. Jon Hagadorn does an amazing job telling and reading stories across this vast network! From authors and writers Robert Louis Stevenson, Mark Twain, Lucy Maud Montgomery, HP Lovecraft, Jack London, and Algernon Blackwood to the classic radio broadcasts on 1001 Radio Days (Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar is an American classic), Jon offers more than enough content to keep you engaged and entertained while working, exercising, cleaning the house, to taking a walk. Don’t even worry about the occasional mispronounced word, it is as endearing as Jon’s lovable personality!
-
ThedailymrstGreat Job!I often listen while I am working in the kitchen! Good reading and easy to understand! Thank you!

AndiMizeLove these!!!!Jon, Thank you for the great stories. I absolutely loved Mr. Standfast! ( Confession: I couldn’t wait to hear the final 2 chapters and ended up reading them myself! ….I did listen to them from you a week or two later) Great stories! I’m a full time mom of 5 children and I don’t read as much as I would like to. Your podcast(s) are wonderful and I’ve gotten to enjoy so many great authors and revisit classics I read back in school. Keep up the great work! ( PS. Have you ever read the Scarlet Pimpernel? I don’t know if it’s one you would be able to do (public domain?) but it’s a good one ) Thanks again.
