Friday interview w David Brooks and LZ
Consider exchanging Jonathon Capehart (too conservative and calculated) with LZ Granderson. The starker contrast will be audience catnip. Thanks

    Losing credibility
I listen to the Newhour as no one really covers int’l news like they do and I like the depth of coverage. Unfortunately, your October 23, 2024 episode was disappointing. We expect news not politicized hearsay. Your team and the producers should be ashamed. Here is the opening from the transcript of that episode: “Good evening, I'm Geoff Bennett. Amna Nawaz is away. On the News Hour tonight, Donald Trump's longest-serving Chief of Staff speaks out about the former president's authoritarian tendencies and praise of Adolf Hitler.” I encourage everyone to listen to the first 5:30 of the October 23, 2024 episode (or the whole episode if you have time) and make up your own mind. All I ask is that you remain objective when you listen regardless of who you favor in the election. In a world of other important newsworthy topics, covering speculative hearsay likening a presidential candidate to Hitler — exactly two weeks before the election — was irresponsible. How is what you did not illegal given the abuse of trust especially this close to the election? Amna picked a good night to be “away”.

Loyal podcast listener wants debate coverage
I listen most days to Newshour podcasts and really wish you would add to this feed all the PBS coverage of debate nights, including pre- and post- analysis. I can’t watch or listen to tv anymore, and I can’t find your distinctive coverage in other podcasts. I appreciate the guests you’ve had on in previous years and the quality of the discussions. Alternatively, include it in some other feed or just create a separate “special events” feed. I just really want to access it! Thank you 😁

    Zero context
An episode on the Israeli strike against Hezbollah leader, without mentioning that the Masha’s Shams attach by Hezbollah murdered twelve children playing soccer and maimed others. Also, an explanation that Israel wants to create a “buffer zone” on its North. Quite the contrary. Due to incessant attacks by Hezbollah, whom an interviewer sat down to just listen to, 80,000 Israelis have been permanently displaced from their homes in the North, in undisputed Israeli territory. This episode covers NONE OF THAT, painting Hezbollah as a war-avoiding actor.

    Hey PBS
Polls are fraught with inaccuracy, why do you use them? Youre better than that, I thought

    What’s with the background noise?!?
I love newshr podcast and listen every day. But, I just finished listening to Nick Schifrin’s tank battalion suicide story and could barely hear the guests with all the background noise. I imagine there were visuals to go with it, but for the podcast it was just extremely unpleasant NOISE. I’d had enough and was about to fast-forward when it finally ended. I give this segment 2 stars.

amna did an EXCELLENT job of interviewing texas republican politician by pushing back on her stats and more. the rest of mainstream news should follow your lead. maybe had the rest of mainstream news been doing this since 2015 we wouldn’t be in the maga stink hole we are in now.

    I stand corrected
I had all but written off the News Hour but I have to say I’ve been impressed with & so appreciative of your reporting recently Thank you

    I’m a huge fan but…
The new hosts have indulged their politics a bit much, especially when it comes to coverage of criminal violence and the regulation of firearms in the US. Framing these complex issues of political freedoms—long denied to African Americans and immigrant city dwellers— and the challenges of e pluribus unum diversity on social norms and community cohesion under the facile notion of “gun violence” not only insults the intelligence of loyal News Hour aficionados but is nothing more than advocacy of their well-meaning but fundamentally misguided political preferences.

    Confused by your coverage
There seems to be an anti-President Biden slant to your news program the past couple of years, in spite of his many accomplishments. Recently, you feature too many repetitious segments about the President’s age and his low ratings. Polling and ratings are frequently wrong, and not representative of Democrats I know in real life. You try to be “fair” and give both sides of issues. But the Republican Party has become a disturbed party, anti-democratic, obstructionist, with many corrupt and dishonest Ultra MAGA members. They do not deserve equal time. Also, Hunter Biden’s problems are given too much coverage. Hunter is not running for any office or working in his father’s administration. Too much time on minor issues, for example Senate dress code, and no time on the rudeness, interrupting and yelling Republicans did during the House interrogation of Attorney General Merrick Garland. We are in a critical time for saving our vulnerable democracy, for taking a strong stand for truth. It’s not a time for giving airtime to insignificant stories, to liars and attention seekers. I am losing my respect for PBS news national political coverage. Your international coverage is still good, thanks.

    Biased
A obvious and complete political bias. Hope this is not publicly funded. What a waste of time and seemingly lack of journalistic professionalism.

    Unbiased
If you are tired of the tabloid entertainment style of “news” that is light on facts and full of partisan scare tactics, then PBS News Hour is what you are looking for. Unbiased and reminiscent of what News used to be before it turned into extensions of the PR departments of the RNC and DNC.

    The debt ceiling
I disagree with B and G. I see no optimism. The extreme Republicans in the house lead by M.T. Green are not interested in negotiations on the debt ceiling or spending cuts. It’s all a partisan political show to make Biden look bad. They want economic chaos. They would destroy the US economy than make any kind of deal with Biden. Only when their rich donors lose enough money will tell House Republicans to end the crisis.

    Vocal quality poor
coverage can be excellent when vocal quality is not garbled and it is possible to understand content of guest experts. Working from home is not an excuse to air garbage.

    Dropping it
Downhill since Judy Woodruff left. Used to be an excellent source of TV news to get facts and gain understanding an issue — and now I find it to be a waste of time. You used to hear both sides of an issue, and they had excellent guest experts provide commentary to deepen your understanding — in addition to Lisa DesJardins and Politics Monday with Amy & Tamara. Judy asked tough questions of guests on both sides (for example, how she pushed Janet Yellen on the child tax credit and inflation when she needed to). Biggest mistake to cancel Politics Monday. Also, they now omit key information when reporting on an issue — which I saw when I watched both CBS Norah O’Donnell and this show the same night (eg. CBS talked about how the regime in Syria is blocking access to much-needed aid after the earthquake - whereas PBS NewsHour just said that there’s not enough aid without any mention of the regime). Their segments have become fluffy and superfluous rather than focusing on substance. I don’t watch the news to hear a deep discussion with child psychologists when it comes to a topic like gun violence. It’s sad to lose what was a great source of news.

    A Review of "PBS NewsHour"
I had found certain parts of what I had believed to had been certain broadcasts of this "PBS NewsHour" ever since it had whom I had believed to had been a certain contributor of some of its content (a presenter of news) named Judy Woodruff to had been opinionated, unnecessary, unprofessional, and detrimental.
  • john snow65
    Judy Woodruff ruined this show
Lehrer spent a lifetime building a completely fair and balanced show just to watch Judy turn it into a far left ultra one sided propaganda show in line with Fox News. They often seem like a government propaganda machine regarding international issues, especially anything related to Israel. Additionally, they often spend a significant amount of time and resources on very limited view left wing social issues. I am a Democrat, and they’ve gone way too far left for me.

    Facts not opinions
I love how fast based this platform is. The mix of objective and subjective information combines to make for a fuller understanding. I appreciate the inclusivity and intersectionality of the staff and stories.

    Good News Podcast But…
Why does Amna Nawaz pronounce Afghanistan, Pakistan and all words in that region as they would say it? She is giving a US newscast but if she’s doing that because it’s the pronunciation those countries would use, she should give that same courtesy to all countries and people. She makes my ears hurt.

    Unbiased, daily news
I enjoy this pod as a good source of unbiased daily news. Cons: update issues on iTunes Slowly starting to introduce segments that are worrying, ie: July 24, 2022 “what movies and tv to watch this summer”. I don’t want, or need, your opinions on what to watch, I want actual news. There are more than enough “news” shows that give us all their opinions, please, please don’t continue down that road. Thanks 🙏

    Love the show!

    Unbalanced Reporting
I’m personally very left leaning in my politics, but I don’t blindly follow an ideology. I prefer to hear both sides and decide for myself, I’ve been listening to PBS for over 20 years and presently they are more interested in convincing listeners to agree with a narrow world view in line with big tech. Also, please remove Google analytics from your services so I’m not involuntary targeted and tracked. That’s just very creepy. Thanks

Still the best after all these years…
I’ve been listening to the NewsHour almost every week day since I was a teenager in the mid-1980s. They continue to be diligent for truth and moderate in tone despite all the pressures in our highly-charged political zeitgeist. In spite of numerous personnel changes over the years, they’ve charted a course in keeping with the spirit of Robert McNeill and Jim Lehrer. Are they perfectly neutral? No. But how could any upstanding person be neutral in this day and time and remain aligned with truth and ethics? They all feel like close friends at this point.

    Non-biased news
Great show. Everything is explained very clean while not looming on a story for a whole show. Non-biased, which is a rarity now at days, and you come out more informed than anyone listening to the policial pundits, broadcasters, or the 24hr news networks. Listen everyday.

    Leftist propaganda machine
No opinion coming from the right side of the political spectrum had been reported concerning voting rights. All I heard from the episode released this Monday was but the affirmation for the so-called voting rights bill. On a side note, let us not deceive ourselves, gentleman, the American project was not intended by the founders to be as an absolute democracy; thus I do not dare to defend that position. “It has been observed by an honorable gentleman, that a pure democracy, if it were practicable, would be the most perfect government. Experience has proved, that no position in politics is more false than this. The ancient democracies, in which the people themselves deliberated, never possessed one feature of good government. Their very character was tyranny; their figure deformity.” Alexander Hamilton, Speech to Congress, June 21, 1788

5 stars PBS NewsHour, 1 start apple podcasts
I’m ditching apple podcast and going right to pbs newshour’s site for this broadcast. Apple delays or misses posting evening news broadcast in a timely way. It’s 11/4’and latest episode available is 11/1. It’s a DAILY news program. Not so fresh 72 hours later. And that’s on you, Apple. So I’m looking for another podcast player and hitting PBS website for direct access to the news I want on a timely manner.
