Best way for busy people to get a daily world news summary.

Definitely my favorite news broadcast. The World offers a broad and always interesting perspective, covering major news stories with a different slant and topics I never would’ve heard about otherwise. I look forward to listening every weekday. Excellent work from the news team.

I used to listen to The World in my car on my way back home and more often than not felt compelled to stay in the car listening just because didn’t want to miss a particular story. Now than I’m retired, I make sure I keep listening no matter where I am. Thank you all of you who make The World possible!

I’ve been listening to The World regularly for more than 10 years and have been highly impressed with the craftsmanship and quality of content over that time. And in my opinion, it just keeps getting better. The ability to hear the individuals behind news stories (big and small) is inspiring. I find that taking in the news in this way humanizes it far more than just reading impersonal headlines and articles in a news publication. The World dos a particularly amazing job of balancing the major, headlining negative stories across the world with positive ones that remind us of the power of kindness and that everyone and everything is connected.

I’ve been listening to The World for a long time, both on NPR via terrestrial radio and as a podcast. Everything about this show is good, from Marco Werman to production to the topics covered to the focus on humanity among us all. I always come away from each episode feeling smarter and more aware of just how complex (and altogether too often tragic) the world can be. Many thanks to the entire team of producers, writers, journalists and hosts.

Really, I think this is a great great world news program, humanity being a necessary pivot to its reporting. The only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 is because they moved the podcast of today’s episode to the next day instead of publishing it later on the same day. Who wants to have yesterday’s news today ? If it’s so important, and I do think it is, it should be published for everyone to have access to it a.s.a.p.

The claimed publishing time of 2:00pm the day before, when it shows up at 10:00am, leads me to suspect there are other inaccuracises. Previous to the last few days, it wasn't broke, so don't fix it.

Guys, I am listening to your show for couple of years. However… Israel is on fire, Gaza is on fire and on Monday you have nearly entire show on indigenius people? The war started on Saturday and you were not able to prepare some deep analisys on the influence of this conflict on Middle East, the world etc? Come on ! And you have reporter on the ground on Tuesday? FOUR days after it all started? I’m sorry for being blunt, but it’s very unprofessional. You had whole weekend to prepare a deeper analisys on Monday. Listening to BBC and othe outlets I have to say I have learnt nothing new from your Monday show.

I first heard the world on NPR and now I subscribe to the podcast so I never miss an episode. I enjoy the program’s global perspective on the news. There is always coverage of the global south in addition to just a focus on say the US plus G20 or so. The stories often touch on culture, arts, climate change, and religion in addition to just events or politics coverage. As an audio program, the stories often feature interviews between correspondents, local experts, and even ordinary (or not so ordinary) folks; these conversations provide not only facts but also the opportunity to hear international viewpoints directly. My only issue, as a daily listener, is that it appears many “special” episodes often re-air segments previously aired in the prior weeks or months. This can make these episodes a bit repetitive, but only if you are really listening attentively most days.

The World on NPR, is one of the best radio news shows on NPR. Hosted by Marco Werman, considering all of the professional people on NPR that is saying a lot. Marco Werman has that professional steady voice and cadens that you recognize immediately. Thank You Marco

...weirdly and subtley anti-israel, like much of western/liberal media. not cool. needs a more embedded and informed correspondent such as daniel estrin of NPR. i am a loyal, dedicated listener of The World, but had to turn a recent episode off, as it was dwelling on the account of some arab christian teenager found on the beach, being a "second class citizen." i am also arab christian. i was welcomed in israel more than any place i've ever been. please tell me a better place to live in the whole world for this demographic.

The World is an excellent antidote to the smarmy, we-know-best smugness of mainstream media, whether commercial or public. Rather than trying to be your trusted best friend, the hosts largely just ferret out really good interviews that personalize international stories. The World's coverage of the first anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine is a perfect example: a well-edited collection of powerful personal accounts of one year of war. Brava! Bravo! Thank you, The World, for news told deeply and honestly.

Useless Trauma porn interspersed with farcical feel good stories and apparently music for some reason. Not the news. The editors should be fired, do they seriously review these stories and think they are valid or add anything to society?

Besides learning about different issues around the world, I love that there is always a story about the climate. The show always ends by highlighting a musician or group from another country and I have learned about some great musicians from this show.

Ouch! How frustrating to hear my favorite daily podcast as if I was in an auditorium, listening to someone on stage responding to a non-mic’d question from the audience, but only inverted. During the story about the murder of reporter “Daphne”, I could hear Marco’s predictably insightful questions, only to be frustrated by Stephen Grey’s responses; muttered as the murmurings of someone trying to find their thoughts. Listening via Bluetooth while washing the dog and deck, I couldn’t get to the volume control to ride gain. Bummer - it was a story I would have liked to hear.

Love this show! Marco’s dulcet tones first drew me in but the varied, clear-eyed yet gentle recounting of world events have kept me a daily listener for years. Also love how the show concludes with a touch of world music that echoes or reinforces the themes of the day’s stories. Thanks for your wonderful work!

The fact that NPR chooses not to report on important election wins by republicans on 11/3/21 shows how disconnected and biased they are. I am a moderate liberal and I am appalled by such partisan reporting. They became a puppet of progressive liberals. Time to unfollow.

It is a great show for cover whole world in a neutral perspective with perfect voice Marco and his colleagues. The only thing about it , I like the old beginning song theme more

The World is exactly what I was looking for before I found it. I love the international news from a US perspective. It provides in depth forays into the situation of communities around the world. Perfect But… there has lately been a sponsored promotion of “Disrupt Talk” - a podcast focused on the success of Israel’s response to the pandemic. But, there is no mention of the deplorable situation of Palestine in regards to the pandemic. And, as the occupying force, they must bear some responsibility. I also cannot find the podcast on apple podcast to listen to see if there is a more nuanced view expressed. But, this caveat to their “success” is so glaring that failing to include it even in the promotional blurb seems irresponsible.

The World challenges global assumptions, while examining the world’s most pressing states and issues. Always a privilege to hear from journalist who take a global approach, and spend their time to craft impressive features.

As an American, I find it easy to slip into an information bubble where I focus so heavily on domestic issues and politics in the US that I miss out on what's happening elsewhere. This podcast does an excellent job of informing listeners of major world events all around the globe, and has been invaluable for helping me to broaden my focus. Thank you!

The overall direction of this podcast is progressive. It's informative and concise, nonetheless.

Great podcast for a factual, level-headed analysis of daily world happenings. Opinions are rarely shared by journalists; instead The World turns to the experts. Refreshing to hear a science and fact-based podcast!

If you are looking for an alternative to NPR coverage this may be your best bet. More global in focus, incisive interviews and international connections make PRI the most rounded American newscast I’ve heard. Each broadcast concludes with stories that focus on music, art or positive cultural developments. The combination of hard news coverage and cultural commentary, both focusing on interviews with persons on the ground leaves one with a well rounded view that goes beyond the issues by making connections with human actors.

Sometimes they take both sides of the story, most of the times they don’t. They say they are impartial but they aren’t. They show you the world from a progressive lens.

Why is PRI pro-Brexit. The interviews on Aug. 28 clearly show hostility toward the MP against no-deal. On the other hand, the other interview of the pro no-deal was very friendly. What is PRI's hidden agenda here?

This podcast quickly replaced others for my routine morning listen. It’s refreshingly less biased and successfully takes on news across the world, giving global headlines the attention they need. I come away feeling enlightened and like a world citizen.

I love this show so much. As a very busy person, it’s great to have a one-stop source for international news in an objective manner. The journalism and reporting done is top-notch. My only criticism is the opening music. It is so awful. I don’t know why they changed it recently, but really hope they consider going back to the original music. But besides that small arbitrary criticism, I can’t recommend this show enough.

Some of (ok, all) the low star reviews saying The World is too leftist/feminist/biased/fill-in-the-blank with whatever, and then proceeds to complain the podcast is “anti-Trump”, blow me away. If you are pro-Trump, you don’t have a place at the table when it comes to critical and intelligent discussion about the world.

Marco and the team always ask the questions that get to the heart of the matter and spend the necessary time to inform me, the listener, instead of playing sound bites. I would not be as informed about the world if it wasn’t for the world. Thanks for all that you do! Also, I didn’t have a problem with the old theme music but am loving the new theme music.

A great, well rounded and well researched news program. The hosts are knowledgeable and talented with reporters worldwide providing first person, on location reporting. This program excels at getting a lot of news out in a short podcast. Big on facts, quick to call out a rumor and even quicker to admit a mistake. Brilliant!

I never miss an episode. Marco and the team are simply a must listen.

This was at one point the highlight of my weeks listening for interesting pieces of around the world events. I concur with others that the show has evolved into anti Trump, left wing feminist platforming. I am not a Trump supporter and I find the show tedious now. I listen to one show a week now hoping to find that a more centrist approach to world events will return - but have so far found myself fast forwarding thru pieces. (Btw - I am a female!)

I usuelly listen to BBC's Global News Podcast but wanted to get my news from few more sources. It's incredible hard to find good international news podcast. I was hoping that PRI's The World would be just that. Sadly, today's news (01/18/19) were entirely about the US. I'll give it another chance tomorrow.

This is an essential source of news. International and national news is covered. In-depth segments on news not generally covered, and special interest segments such as on women’s lives around the world provide interesting perspectives not easily found. If I get behind in my listening, I try to catch up as it is not just the “news of the moment” that is covered.

You learn a little bit about everything going on around the world. There is a good balance between major headlines and news stories that are a little off the beaten path.

Love the reporting. I love the ending with music. Found so many cool bands. I just love this program. If you like intelligent sophisticated smart journalism then you'll love this show.

Its bad enough to have to listen to sounds of footsteps during an otherwise interesting story. Today on PRI's The World I had to listen to someone eating mouth open during a story. There are some things that should never be done on air under any circumstances.

I LOVE this show. It has current events, music, world news, trivia stories; it is informative, educational, and can be so fun. “The World” is so rightfully named. It brings me the listener stories from far corners of the globe or within the continent. I am always delighted to hear the stories. It packs a ton of information in a little hour. I don’t always have the time to listen to it daily. But because it always has such interesting stories, I save all the podcasts and listen to them on a longer drive. Even though I may be listening to a 2 week old current event, the podcast is still relevant to me. There are many many stories out there. There are many great podcasts, radio programs that I love. The World is my comfort food, my background radio program. It has so much soul and content; I love Marco! This is my favorite radio program! Keep up the great work! You make my day, every day!!
