chrischappySubscription Only?I’m not a liberal. I fall in the middle between being a liberal and conservative. With that said, I very much enjoy listening to a variety of news media podcasts that fall on both sides of the aisle to include The Daily. So…much to my disappointment many of your shows are now “subscription only”. Whats going on? Why the change?

Liz Lemon IIBiased reportingI used to like the New York Times podcast, but then I realized how incredibly biased and one-sided. It was when the genocide in Gaza happen. The fact that every time they have reporting on the Middle East, it does not lead with Arab voices, but rather those of Zionist or Americans is ridiculous. I have lost all respect for the New York Times and the daily and canceling my subscriptions to both.

SaraM2016Rick Steves always a source of optimismRick Steves is inherently positive and doesn’t really talk about avoiding being cynical here, but rather continues to inspire thoughtful traveling in a changing world. If anything, the interviewer was surprisingly cynical throughout this interview which felt unnecessary; Just let Rick provide the optimism and positivity that he does so well instead of challenging it.

Billybill1984Be excitingGreat stuff – never use the past tense to describe events in the past. Use the present tense, it makes it so much more EXCITING!!

yourrockNYT is an alternate, stupid reality full of gas and lightNYT profits off pushing literal lies. Now China is the existential enemy. Really? Who knows? The NYT printed lies about Iraq. They knew they were lies. If NYT says China hacked something something, it may be true. But the NYT has been caught spreading government disinformation at a pathological rate.Take a stack of NYT and a peer reviewed history publication. NYT is packaged blather and they know we know and they are shameless, ruthless, amoral etc

noresolutions2022“A turning point for ultra processed foods” is reductive, misleading, and has a staggering omissionHere we are again, back to bullying obesity after a brief hiatus of ultimately insincere investigation into the pseudoscience of BMI and the red herring of “obesity” as the health risk, rather than the actual health conditions afflicting many Americans. The key to getting Americans to “eat better” isn’t applying patronizing warning labels to processed foods; it’s not drinking millions of dollars into studies that determine the plainly obvious fact that processed foods are more calorically dense; it’s not announcing Americas “obesity epidemic” while actually moving the metric by which this is measured; it’s not shaming people into making “better choices”. It’s UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME. Do you think poor people don’t know that sausages are processed foods? Do you think poor people just hate cooking varied, nutritionally dense meals? Do you think poor people stopped smoking cigarettes? Last time I checked, they’re still for sale at every single gas station in America. Hmmmm. Could it be that processed foods are cheap, available, and make you full quickly and reliably when you’re just trying to keep yourself alive in the midst of a 50 hour workweek? Could it be that poor people don’t have decent healthcare and therefore less avenues to identifying chronic issues while they’re still small? Could it be that poor people don’t have the time, money, access, transportation, etc to make what you call “healthier decisions”? Could it be that fat people are treated like garbage in medical settings in part thanks to lazy narratives perpetuated by the country’s ~newspaper of record~? Please spare us this long tired personal choice narrative and try instead to maybe investigate how the vast majority of this country is thinking about how they’re gonna pay rent this month.

Nothin2cleverTurning point for ultra processed foods.I’ve been an avid follower of The Daily podcast and for the most part really appreciate the time and effort and research put into the episodes. Until today. The Turning Point for Ultra processed foods. Please at least consult a licensed dietitian or food scientist before publishing this garbage. Just because you can’t pronounce ingredients does not make them harmful. They referenced RFK’s intent to make America healthy again. He also wants to revoke the approval for the polio vaccine. Come on folks, do better.

robeeenzLeans and is not independent journalismFor example the show regarding china and cell hacking she says Trump will bring chaos and the guest also had the same type of rhetoric.. it’s hard to find truly unbiased journalism

beatrlzNotre Dame episodeListened to 38 minutes about the renovation of the cathedral, the incredible lengths they took to rebuild it, and not once did they mention that it’s a Catholic cathedral. Apparently they think people love the cathedral ONLY because of its’ architecture, and not because it has been a place of prayer and mass for centuries. I’ve listened for a long time, I use to love it but really when will you all get the memo. The country is tired of your anti religion, anti family, anti NORMAL agenda and the 2024 elections prove it. Find the worst possible candidate and he will still beat the Democrats because people are so exhausted of your rhetoric. Notre Dame is a Catholic Cathedral that has some of the most important Christian relics, like the Crown of Thorns. It is a symbol of Christianity, devotion, and sacrifice. DO A BETTER JOB NY TIMES!

El Vaquerro DanielloNot worthwhile: a conclusion after many yearsI have listened to this show for years, and it has consistently brought the same perspective to the news: it is a safe rendering of current events with deeper dives that reflect the point of view of corporate interests and satisfaction with power in general. While they may single out individuals for greater negative scrutiny on both sides of the mainstream political aisle, their deep satisfaction with status quo maintenance and feigned ignorance of the actual reasons for societal discontent at this point just seems inauthentic. Their unshaken insistence on supporting the dumbing down of both journalism and opinion is predictable and not worth your time unless you are a corporate interest searching for fertile advertising space to cleanse your deserved reputation.

youngrrrrLongtime listener: Why is Asian news neglected?Just wondering why the Daily never seems to cover global news for Asian countries that make their front page on the NYT? For example, the Shinzo Abe assassination or most recently the Martial Law attempt in South Korea. I know it can’t be a matter of only covering domestic news since this show covers plenty of international news. Just seems really bizarre when the Daily seems to pass over global headlines when they come from Asian countries.

Jj jelledSo many pausesWhile I do enjoy the content on this podcast, I cannot listen to MB speak in choppy sentences. He speaks as if there are many periods in his script. Sometimes, while speaking to a person, he doesn’t chop it up- that is more pleasant.

//._._.//Purposefully misleading and misinformationThese people are painting our lord and savior, Luigi, in a bad light. Virginia61092An Amazing Starting PointThis podcast has helped me learn so much about the world and events affecting everyone around us. I love that all the episodes dive deep into a topic, explain everything without making complicated stories too confusing, and point you the right direction for more info. I often will listen to an episode and then go on to do more reading about topics I find interesting. Thank you!!!

The Vampire Squid ChroniclesGreat podcastPlease lose the “Instagram for Teens” ads please. A bit tone deaf given the widespread knowledge of mental health harm they have caused and are causing our children. Thank you!

SpazappleBrian Thompson's murder is NOT a 'referendum'Have to question Michael's reckless choice of wording - what are you thinking to refer to this assassination as a 'referendum?' Raise your standards of analysis and discourse, show more respect and less 'cleverness.'

Cielo1986Still GoodWowza- I’m seeing a lot of negative reviews from those who don’t agree with presented arc of some of these episodes. This is well researched and presented investigative journalism. I don’t agree with the stances that appear to be taken through the choices in direction for every topic covered, but I enjoy the in-depth illumination of most of the chosen topics and am capable of hearing points of view with which I don’t agree, sans a rage-filled outburst. In fact, I view listening to topics where I disagree as helpful in formulating more specific points on why I disagree for future discussions (sometimes debates) with friends.

BlakeSlaughter“Subscribers Only”??I shouldn’t have to pay to hear what’s going on in the world. I used to listen to this podcast incessantly to remain informed on current issues, but ripping free news from the people doesn’t sit right with me. Very disappointing.

toni-romaPay Wall?Hiding your content behind a paywall after all this time is absolutely ridiculous. Find better sponsors. You need $50 from me to keep it going?? 100% unsubscribing and will not bat an eye. Not going to miss how dude says “today” anyway.

Gleni1ClicheThe hosts intonation is awful. Lots of staged pauses. Worse still are the utterances he makes as his guests are speaking (“uh-ha”). It sounds like someone doing an unflattering impression of a podcast host. Shame because the content is good.

Tiny ProfProblematic twisting of reportingThis is regarding the episode about the IDF using Palestinians as a human shield. The investigative reporting features struck me as very important. Obviously the phenomenon (if we are indeed talking about a policy which I am willing to entertain based on the reporting but not yet convinced about) is deeply deeply disturbing. That said, in Sabrina’s presentation of the issue she really did some things that a news host should not. For example the reporter explained that trained dogs were no longer able to smell explosives because of how long the war has been going on their sensitivity no longer works. When he mentioned the truly awful fact that a Palestinian was sent into a tunnel to check for explosives, she responded along the lines of “so they sent him in to do something that they won’t even have dogs do?!” This was just sensationalizing things (where the dry facts are bad enough!) with the clear motive to imply that the IDF is treating this prisoner as less than a dog - which was not at all to the point here - and using this kind of rhetoric to drive towards the larger point the episode tried to make, that this story clearly proves all the accusations of human rights violations against the IDF must clearly also be true. Such a way of molding news by means of “neutral” reactions to reporting, as if the host is merely reflecting the reporting rather than turning it into a certain kind of propaganda is deeply problematic coming from a reputable source such as the nyt. This issue of course does not take away from the fact that reporting like this is important and that this is a revolting thing to do, but sensationalizing and twisting a narrative like this away from the truth achieves the contrary. It is not what honest fact driven journalism is about. A kind of journalism we desperately need right now!!

debllstlUsed to be a Good Reliable PodcastI liked this podcast and trusted the information presented for years. On 11/16/23, there was an episode on polling that was misleading and frightening, with dubious numbers. Another episode with a negative perspective aired on 3/6/24, the morning after Super Tuesday. Instead of talking about the increasing numbers of Republicans who say they will never vote for Trump, the focus was on President Biden struggling. The majority of Americans know Trump is a corrupt dangerous liar, and know early polling is unreliable. I feel you are biased against President Biden, a decent and very experienced man. There is no comparison!! 12/2/24: President Biden pardoned Hunter and you were ambivalent. Trump plans to seek vengeance and restructure the FBI and the Justice Department. That is the reason for Hunter Biden’s pardon. None of us think the Trump Administration will be fair in any way. If Kamala had won, President Biden could trust our justice system. I am lowering my rating from 5 stars to 3 because The Daily is normalizing Trump.

Heather92386Bring Back Michael Full TimeI’ve been listening to The Daily since day one and I’m thisclose to unfollowing. Sabrina has single-handedly dragged this show into the gutter because she infuses her own shallow views into stories, resulting in irresponsible journalism. I gasped when she misinterpreted something Natan reported about the Israeli people using Palestinians as “human shields,” saying they were being used to do a job that was too dangerous “for even dogs.” Just a breath before, Natan said the Israelis were no longer using dogs because they were desensitized— not because it wasn’t safe for them. I’ve long been disgusted with Sabrina; Wednesday’s episode just clinched it to me. I will only listen when Michael hosts from now on. Please bring him back full time.

Old IM'erSubscriber editionI swear I’m getting more advertisements since linking my subscriber account to the podcast. Why? The Washington Post podcast allows subscribers to listen ad free.

kristen LMThe Daily has gone downhill latelyI’ve been listening The Daily for over 3 years, and greatly enjoyed it for most of that time, especially as I’d listen on my commute to work and really looked forward to it. However, my opinion of the podcast has shifted in the past 6 months or so. I think Michael B. Is an excellent reporter and stays relevant, interesting and also is a great narrator, interviewer, and reporter. I don’t feel like he brings bias to his reporting and he’s very honest when he shares in opinion and acknowledges it during an interview/episode. Sabrina T. Is an excellent reporter but I have found her to be more difficult to listen to in the past 6-12 months, particularly on election and middle eastern issues. The bias in her phrasing, questions asked, and tone is irritating and makes me want to turn the podcast off. When I leave her episodes with a bad taste in my mouth it makes me less excited to return to the podcast. Also, this new change with subscription model is disappointing. I like to go back and listen again to podcasts I’ve already heard or that I missed, and now those are locked and are for subscribers only. Podcast is going downhill. Don’t lose Michael Barbaro- he is a gem.

Burms79My daily routineI learn from this podcast daily and often pepper my conversations with topics I’ve heard about on the show. I love the variations of hosts and am one of those that finds Michael’s mannerisms comforting and endearing after years of listening. Keep it up!!

Proud Florida DemocratFavorite news podcast! The Thanksgiving podcast with Ina Garten was such a treat! I didn’t expect to see The Daily in my feed since it’s a holiday, so to have this episode with such a delightful guest was a great way to start the day.
